Motor issue; motor DOA or x-asr is shit?

Evening all,

First time doing any tech work and have installed a new Solink 28k lite plus brushless motor and 13:1 gears into my specna edge.

The old motor, when tested, works fine, spins freely even by hand etc.

The new motor shows a solid red light on the x-asr mosfet and does not spin, will not spin freely by hand either, has a sort of regular interval clunk/click as you turn it. Not sure if that is normal or not.

Have seen one post from a guy on reddit  (https://www.reddit.com/r/airsoft/comments/nt5kt2/issue_motor_is_causing_a_supposed_short_circuit/)  who seems to have a similar if not identical issue, which turnt out to be his mosfet, but of course that's only a single person on the internet so not taking it as gospel.

Motor was recieved today brand new in box, with testing the old motor in same environment, those are the only two reasons I've found, either the motor is wankered or x-asr is being an arse

How freely a motor spins is directly related to the strength of the magnets used to make it. If it spins freely then the magnets are weak and the motor will be shit. Ergo the Solink feeling clunky as it turns is, in fact, a sign of a better motor. Having changed the motors in a couple of Specna guns I can attest that they are, in fact, weak as shit.

 

Also, the X-ASR MOSFET is rubbish.

I also very much doubt the X-ASR can deal with a brushless motor. Fuck it off and put a decent unit in instead.

Cheers for the advice mate,

will order a warfet and try throw that in, the x-asr has motor + and - as well as a blue wire from the trigger contact, all housed in the buffer tube. In theory I can just cut off the x-asr and put the warfet in its place no? Wiring seems to be the same?

Personally, I'd skip the Warfet and go straight to an Aster. That said, I believe you can do what you are suggesting.

The Aster choice is more based on the modern mosfets being better able to handle brushless motors than the older ones like the Warfet.

Yeah, after some research went for the Aster II with the Bluetooth

starting to think maybe I should have just left my aeg alone… lol
