Gunner91 Posted Tuesday at 15:53 Share Posted Tuesday at 15:53 Just wondering what's out there at the moment or coming in the near future for snipers and dmrs. Looking for pretty high fps and good accuracy. Preferably gas powered. Cheers for your time. Ryan

Gunner91 Posted Tuesday at 17:02 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 17:02 Sorry I wrote that quickly. I'm looking for a new sniper or dmr rifle. Just wondering what's everyone's views on what's out there? Budget is pretty high, what I'm really looking for is a gas bolt action rifle with fairly high fps and very good accuracy. I do bench rest shooting and hft shooting along side my love for airsoft lol, just trying to scratch that itch with an airsoft rifle when I'm not up the air rifle range. I do got to a cqb site indoor but the fps I'm looking for wouldn't be allowed.
Lyndication Posted Tuesday at 17:15 Share Posted Tuesday at 17:15 I don't think there's much for new gas snipers, though you can make VFC or GHK ARs into a bolt action with the Maple Leaf ARBA. Runs really well, surprisingly. For gas DMRs there's many more options. Basically any 7.62 rifle is pretty decent, some may need more hop up shimming than others to be excellent though. The most accurate, long ranged, and consistent of my AEGs (a bone stock Krytac) has almost the same real world performance (range and accuracy) of the DMRs and Sniper. The extra 1J between them doesn't really count for that much in the real world. But - that’s not to say the play style that comes with each category isn't fun, and its nice to mix things up a bit. From the above, it sounds like this is half your aim? Unless you are indicating that you aren't going to be playing with it, but rather just using it in the garden. In which case, i'd venture that a garden that is big enough for you to shoot an airsoft sniper within is also big enough for you to construct a half decent backstop and enjoy the infinitely superior accuracy of an air rifle. But if its is a blend of ultimate performance and aesthetics that you are after with the sniper, and you are after a light bolt pull (with the gas system you specify) - maybe consider building a half decent rifle up from a cheap VSR (Cyma are often used as bases) or an L96 (e.g. a Well MB01) - throw in a load of parts (the building is half the fun), and consider one of the these parts being an HPA drop in kit - e.g. the Mancraft SDIK. I do got to a cqb site indoor but the fps I'm looking for wouldn't be allowed. Gas bolt actions and DMRs are pretty much all I use and I think they're fantastic, but I can't recommend them as a first platform as they're finicky and require a lot of tweaking. You will not get the same consistency as a well set up spring or HPA setup (which really ruffles some peoples feathers for some reason), though you can get them consistent enough and the accuracy is just as good. However, every time you use them, you have to spend a bit of time dialling the power in as they're temperature dependent. Also, you can't chase the power limit (which again, really ruffles some peoples feathers) because if you chrono at 2.3J in the morning, you'll be pushing 2.6J by lunch on a warm day. All that said, if you really want a gas bolt action, the Tanaka m700 platform is the best. Pre-ban Tanaka rifles are the best, as it's pretty easy to adjust the power on them, but the clone KJW rifles are just as good, just a bit of a pain to adjust the power by comparison. They definitely need upgrades, regardless of which model you get though. Generally need to swap out the hop unit as the Tanaka unit is an ancient design and while the KJW unit takes VSR rubbers, it's a crap hop unit. Barrel, hop rubber and nub also need swapping out, and on some models you need to think about outer barrel as well, because the standard one houses a 630mm inner which is way too much and joule creeps uncontrollably. You also need to swap out the nozzle as they're way too short on the Tanaka rifles and a good 4mm(ish) short on the KJW, but no airsoft manufacturers make them, so you need to get them custom machined. For DMRs there are a lot more options that will do the job. I built mine on a TM MWS platform as a mk12 mod1 and it slaps, but I know people who have used various VFC rifles to build DMRs to great success, like the m110 or G28, but I can't tell you about those as I have no experience. A lot of work getting the rifles shooting well, and it's still not quite as good as a well-tuned tac41 or VSR as the power fluctuations will be higher due to how gas works and there's nothing you can do about that. However, they are more than accurate enough, and the power fluctuations aren't that awful, just some people get their knickers in a twist if their bolt action rifles aren't doing 3fps consistency. I have 3 VSRs (2x spring, 1x HPA), an SRS and an MTW, all pretty obsessively tuned, yet I still use my m700s, kar98s and my MWSs over them all. Gunner91 Posted Tuesday at 21:32 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 21:32 (edited) To be honest I've been looking at the TM m40a5 springer and the tac41. Looks great. I don't mind it being spring powered as long as I can upgrade to get the best accuracy I can with a high fps and that can shoot fairly heavy bbs. Of course if I need to upgrade inner barrels, hop ups etc i will. So yeah can you suggest a springer ? Reliability accuracy and power is obviously a must. And aftermarket parts accessibility is important. Cheers. Ryan Edited Tuesday at 21:35 by Gunner91 Added a rifle description
El Zomba
As alternatives, if you've got the cash an Archwick B&T Air SP300 is an option. It's built with all the upgrades you'd want to add. I have one, and it's very nice. For a less pricey option, a pal runs an Action Army AAC T10, which is a VSR clone, so plenty of upgrade options. You can get one from Airsoft World for £159, which is a steal. That, plus an uprated spring and piston will get you to 2.2j nicely.
