Where and what sort of game(s) do you play ? What platform do you like ?

G&G make some good things in that price range e.g. ARP9/556, CM16 SR models with etc/mosfet.

I suspect the Nov and the Cyma that you mention will be good options (I don't know enough about the E&C to say either way), but plenty of other very good options for that price bracket, and many good options for actually a little less money. Some of the higher end Specnas, Double Eagles for example. Delta Armories seem to be churning stuff out at the moment too that I suspect is half decent (the fit and finish of the £35 Delta Armories receiver that I bought is really superb). The AR15/M4 style you seem to be leaning towards is a good option to start off with - a huge range of available guns, and one of the easiest to strip down and work on if you ever feel the inclination. Don't forget the AK platform though if you like the form factor - some very good options in your price bracket from the likes of Cyma and E&L for example.

For various reasons I'd never buy one but the Novritsch SSR4 MK2 is a good all round AEG, and what I like is that it has it's own dedicated spare part page on their website...

https://eu.novritsch.com/products/gun-systems/all-rifles/rifles/the-ssr4-system/ssr4-mk2-spare-parts/

... and YouTube disassembly videos so in theory it's something that you could run for years and cover all sorts of things that might fail.

Beyond that I'd be looking at key features like... a branded controller / ETU pre-installed (so effectively a GATE Aster or Titan) so you get cycle control etc. + quick change spring + no non-standard or proprietary parts + standard AR buffer tube so you can use any stock you want + standard M4 / AR15 mags.

Also as you say you'll play at a "relatively big woodland site" I'd be thinking about keeping some money back so that you can set yourself up to use heavy BB's like 0.32g, so you get good range and know your shots can pass through light foliage. Some of the money you keep back may need to go on a stronger spring + better bucking + possibly a hop unit with some sort of TDC.

There's a plethora of decent M4s out there, so I'd suggest narrowing it down rather than expanding the search. If you like the Novritsch, go for it. One consideration is that Luke at Negative Airsoft does the UK support for them, which means that they actually have real support.

Just checking: have you played yet?  If not, we'd always, always recommend renting before buying, to check if airsoft is really for you.

If you already play and have one or more guns, what is it that they don't do that you'd want a new one to do differently?

I used to go airsofting all the time last year, I have a VFC Avalon sabre SD at the moment but it’s a cqb shorty. Not practical at all for my field, too short, gun is just very small and battery compartment can’t get 11.1 in, need upgrades internally and with all of that I may aswell get another rif ( handy too have two for a back up also)

now just stumbled upon the edge 2.0 range from Specna and it looks promising.

Ah, gotchya.  Yes, the Edge 2.0s are fine, as are the Double Eagle M9xx guns with the Falcon FCS - just be careful to check whether they're plastic or pot-metal bodied, they do both.

I have been looking at the SSR4 MK2, and should 1 become available for a price I can't refuse I will get one
