Tomson
In the next couple of weeks i am to create a home made gun-cam mod for my 36c I will document and update regular, but would love some feedback or help or anything that could help me on my way! The camera i intend to use is a Flip Ultra II HD. Its lightweight and compact size (sounds like im advertising the damn thing lol!) should allow me to rig it without much effort or strain on both the components used and the gun itself. Bits needed: Advice, always appreciated! TM G36c Screwdriver Flip camera cup of tea - Vital part! the dog, Juke! (minimum wage pup)
Supporters Finius Posted August 23, 2011 Supporters Share Posted August 23, 2011 Good project, one I'd like to have a go at myself one day. How do you intend to mount the camera?
Tomson
Good project, one I'd like to have a go at myself one day. How do you intend to mount the camera? The 36 bolts that bolts the upper rail to the upper receiver are positioned in such a way that help me - this also helps as it can allow me to place the camera on both left and right sides of the gun. (reversal construction of the mount will be required obviously) using an 'L' bracket, a custom lengthy washer amongst other bits and bobs can secure it to the gun. Plexi glass will be used to shield both front and back (bugger to cut) to protect the cam from BBs and flicked up dirt, stone etc. I will purchase some 1/4' bolts for the camera screw hole and cut it down to size to fit through the bottom. If all works well I would probably make a bunch if its cheap enough, for spares or to sell on etc.

Although it would still be a sad moment if it was shot lol so I'm taking measures to help prevent that. Using plexiglas shielding its just that extra bit safer for the camera. Like it's own little riot shield if you will But I dont know, although expensive cameras are good, and they are becoming more compact etc, it's just not something I'm willing to do at this point in time. - the picture and sound would be immense and the battery life would be better but what happens when you fall awkwardly on it accidentally ?? I'd rather replace £60 worth of kit instead of £1500-2000, but like I said, each to their own The Flip Ultra II HD has 1080p video capture with surprisingly good sound. And it's light weight design is so helpful for gun-mounting.
Nickona
just having a little think about it, a good place to put it could be near the mag well given the size of the camera and its dimensions (oh and i would never tape my camera to a gun, too big aswell )
Tomson
just having a little think about it, a good place to put it could be near the mag well given the size of the camera and its dimensions(oh and i would never tape my camera to a gun, too big aswell ) The idea is to place it towards the rear of the gun so that you can get a partial view of the gun in the footage. It's just that more appealing I think when you can see the gun and barrel unloading bbs down range at the enemy. - I tried some mocked up shots last night and I was rather impressed. The easiest way is to mount it to the barrel etc but what goods that when you can't see the gun??
Nickona
the barrel could be a good place but from seeing some footage when it is on the reciever it looks better as the front gets waved around a lot more
Cameron364
My Flip camera survived the jaws of my dog, puppy teething problems so she decided to snatch my mum's, now my Flip camera because she didn't want the chewed up one, she chewed it up but it still works perfectly fine, all though it looks like sh*t it still works, so I'm sure it will be fine especially with it's own riot shield!!!
