ikarma70 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Hi all, does anyone know if silver plated wire is called something else as I can't find it on eBay or maplins? Thanks Andy
Supporters Lozart Posted September 30, 2014 Supporters Posted September 30, 2014 Why do you want silver plated? I know all the marketing BS about silver plated wire must be good because it's more expensive but actually, it's only relevant in high frequency applications. As the frequency of the current flowing in the wire it tends to flow more towards the outside of the conductor (it's called skin effect if you want to go and look it up) and in THAT case then applying a lower resistance coating to the conductor (like silver plating for exampl) allows the highest frequencies to pass at a lower impedance. AEGs run on DC. Silver plating is irrelevant.

If you can, try and get silicone insulated wire as it's a bit more flexible. Also the gauge of the wire is more important than what it's plated with. 16awg should be fine though. team flex 1
