Supporters Lozart Posted August 27, 2013 Supporters Share Posted August 27, 2013 So my venerable M4 has a bit of an issue with the fire selector lever. Basically the detent that holds it in any one position is a little weak so when it's in Semi the side of my thumb can very easily knock it towards safe which leads to a rather embarrassing locking of the trigger and a "WTF?" expression on my face mid-firefight. Can anyone suggest how I might improve this (other than changing my hand position/having my thumb surgically removed)? Cheers Loz
dazzer306
why your thumb so high ? you may have to take apart to tighten up little screw that holds it place, other than that just as you said remove your thumb lol
RR01
If you strip the gearbox out of the lower receiver you can access the screw that holds the lever in place, although you may also need to remove the blanking plate opposite the lever to get at the screw. Once out you can try removing the detent ball bearing and tiny spring from the back of the lever, then stretch the spring out a little to give it a bit more pressure, before putting it all back again. You can test how easy or otherwise it is to move the lever once you've screwed it back, but before putting the gearbox back in, as if it is still too loose then you can repeat the process to stretch the spring a bit more until it's right for you. Supporters Lozart Posted August 27, 2013 Author Supporters Share Posted August 27, 2013 Cheers RR01. I'll give that a try when I get a new spring then. Saves taking the whole thing apart twice Dazzer, my thumb is high because in the words of a gentleman I met in Socom Tactical last week I have "hands like a f*cking bear".
