Hav0c
So. Was quite bored earlier and whilst watching a YouTube video on the new game, Metro Last Light - if you don't know what it is, basically a game based on the aftermath of a nuclear war involving Europe and is set in Russia.I was looking at the weapons used in game. Basically there is a small selection of Russian weapons such as, AK-74M (or also possibly AKM), AKS-74U, RPK-74. Also, there is a .357 Magnum and another Pistol of some kind (sort of resembles the C96 Mauser) however I cannot see any real form of a proper gun, that's just a vague guesstimate .Anyway, I started thinking up some donor guns in my head that could be aesthetically modified to look like the post-nuclear war Russian weapons used in the game and I thought of a few. Please bear in mind that these are just manufacturers and that my ideas may be completely obsolete when put into practice. The manufacturers and rough price for each base gun are as follows:For the AK-74M you could used ICS or CYMA, both are sub £200.For the AKM you could use CYMA, £200 for the real wood version. For the AKS-74U there are many companies, TM, ICS, CYMA, SRC etc and you can find them for around £250.For the RPK you could go with CYMA, SRC and these are a little more expensive at around £300 although I'm sure you can find them for a lot cheaper. Many manufacturers make Revolvers but I'm not sure about .357's.UPGRADES:AK74, AKM & AKS-74U: New hanguard with the bottom half wood and top half heat shield with drilled holes, custom magazine (It is transparent like the G36 in game), and possibly a GP-25 'nade launcher. Also will need a worn out look.RPK-74: Will need the same handguard/heat shield as the above guns, also will need a new (custom) flash hider, same custom (longer however) magazine as above AK's, pistol grip and butt-stock texturing, drum mag (worn out). Also will need a worn out paint job..357 Magnum: Will need a custom stock which should be wood and connect up to the pistol grip, a much longer barrel extending past the front sight, custom fore grip just past trigger guard, (optional) scope. Also a worn out paint job. C96 (sort of thing): some modification to the stock, a custom handguard over the original barrel, barrel extension(suppressor), long mag. worn down paint job.I will now show you the source pictures I found of these in game weapons: AK74/AKM: http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?until=20130427170925&file=Metro2034KalashModified.JPG , http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?until=20130212000352&file=1122.jpg , http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?file=MLL_AK-74M_isometric.png&until=20130103222336 AKS-74U: http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?until=20130103222336&file=Limited_edition_SP.jpg , http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?until=20130212000352&file=1122.jpg RPK-74: http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?until=20130522201054&file=Rpk.png , http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?file=Rpk.png&until=20130103222336 .357 Magnum: https://www.google.co.uk/search?safe=off&q=metro+last+light+magnum&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47008514,d.d2k&biw=1241&bih=584&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=rvmlUcXaLfCn0wWisoDADg#um=1&safe=off&hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=metro+last+light+revolver&oq=metro+last+light+revolver&gs_l=img.3...19847.22656.0.23016.14.14.0.0.0.0.99.1017.14.14.0...0.0.0..1c.1.12.img.Hpwf483n2KY&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47008514,d.d2k&fp=24fc46336cf6e107&biw=1241&bih=584&facrc=_&imgrc=iF7DYfJDvzYHSM%3A%3BCmFmNy86jyfNSM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%252F__cb20110903135851%252Fmetro2033%252Fimages%252F5%252F5a%252FRevolver_stock_optics_silencer_1.png%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmetrovideogame.wikia.com%252Fwiki%252FAttachments%3B1178%3B374 C96 (sort of thing): http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Special:NewFiles?until=20130103222336&file=Vsk_94_metro_2033.jpg Let me know what your thoughts on my ideas are guys, I'm not sure if these would even be possible as it was just a sort of brainwave moment where I found these weapons and then there airsoft counterparts. TacMaster
The .357's upgrade job looks a little ambitious...where are you going to get a stock and how are you going to attach it? The underbarrel RIS rail might be a little difficult to install as well...

I was thinking that if you went to a carpenter/toy maker, they could turn a piece of wood into that

Yeah, I literally just remembered that LCT do some of the best AK's out after I posted this
Tariq
If you want to be accurate: The revolver in Last light is a .44 Magnum, not a .357. AK is a 74M as it's 5.56mm.

Supporters Ian_Gere Posted May 29, 2013 Supporters Share Posted May 29, 2013 Apart from leaving the front sight on with an optic and suppressor, I love the look of that AK-74M. The cut away mag looks sub zero. I think that Russian AK-74M's are chambered for 5.45x39 rounds - you can buy them inert from here. It would be a long and tedious task with a Dremel but you could cut slots in a bunch of rounds for a channel to hold the spring and BB's of a mid-cap and fit that inside a mag out of which you had cut a window. I expect hot glue would hold it all together so you could slide the rounds/BB channel/spring assembly inside the mag shell. To look perfect you'd need a real steel mag to donate the spring and follower, but steel packing tape for a fake spring and a bit of plastic from a TV dinner tray, heated to re-shape a bit, would probably look real except to close scrutiny. I realise that you probably wouldn't want to do this to a nice new piece of LCT AK body kit, but the way to make an upper handguard look like that is to heat it up until it's hot enough to stop smoking as the protective coating/laquer/etc is burned off and allow it to cool without wetting it. You will then have to oil it to prevent corrosion.
Hav0c
In one of ScoutTheDoggie's video's there is guy who has an actual LCT handguard which looks like that. Here it is here: You would maybe need some fancy woodwork to remove the vert. grip though.
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted May 29, 2013 Supporters Share Posted May 29, 2013 Oh those Romanian style vertical grips are available from LCT as a kit accessory. I'm sure that, if they do supply them with the steel upper, they also supply the usual horizontal wooden lower with a steel upper too. More likely that the steel upper comes as a separate bit and you end up with a spare bit of wood in your bits box... Bloody horrible looking, the Romanian grip, aren't they? I could quite go for it if the blasted thing didn't slope forward, or if it was like a Thompson foregrip. It's not just that holding my hand in that position feels wrong, but it looks like something found in the bin outside the 'special class' of woodwork... Hav0c
I'm not sure if you've seen this or if it was a fake picture that I saw, but LCT are supposedly bringing out an AS-VAL, its like a little tiny AK which is integrally suppressed and fires a 9x39mm round. But yeah, LCT are making one of these and it looks bloody awesome! I have also since found out that it is not in fact a C96 in Metro Last Light, but infact an AS-VAL

Tariq
Yeah i LOVE the AS Val. G&G are meant to be making one as well. Its not a Val in Metro though, its the cheaper alternative, A VSK-94.
