I recently picked up a WE M9 in-store last week whilst I was in the Midlands for a week and away from home, and got to try it out on Sunday.

As I use 0.3s, I'd obviously need to add more hop to it, so on stripping it down to adjust the hop I saw that the hop unit was a different design from anything I'd seen before (shown below). And on adjusting hop then it was having no effect, nothing was protruding into the barrel as one might expect.

After doing a bit of reading, am I correct in thinking that this is the Gen 1 version?

According to my PayPal statement, then it was down as a gen 2 (which iirc uses the more common style hop unit, with the standard TM compatible pistol/VSR buckings).

Has anyone had any experience with the WE M9 and Von confirm that I'm correct in thinking that the gen 2 should have a TM compatible unit and this has been mislabeled when sold?

I understood that the gen 1 is fixed hop with a hop patch (not a full hop rubber) and gen 2 is adjustable hop. See here. Gen 2 has a hop wheel.

The v2 definitely has the standard hop system

That's what I figured.

Annoying to know I've been sold the wrong one!

Thanks for your help.

That's a bummer and really scamy if sold as a V2.

You should contact them to return it.

I suspect they will go with "you stripped it enough to find this...... therefore you broke it". I've known at least 1 shop to claim stripping the slide off to set the hop as voiding the warranty.

I've emailed them and I'm currently waiting on a reply.

Was hoping to have one by the weekend as I'm back down in the area until Monday.

That wouldn't surprise me, tbh.

A good counter if they try to pull that one on you though would be "You sold it to me as a V2, and the process of setting the hop on a V2 requires slide removal."

Good to hear. At least if they say no you can go through them for a refund
