Are the CYMA and G&G hop units interchangable? They look so similar but pictures dont account for size.

Hey everyone. Just been testing my MP5 prior to attending a skirmish and found that the hop didn't appear to be making a difference to what the BBs were doing. After stripping the gun down and inspecting the hop unit it appears that the sliding part of the hop unit has been sheared/snapped off (potentially by the techs who worked on my gun) meaning the hop cannot be adjusted. After some googling I can only find one place with a original G&G MP5 hop unit it stock however it's in Italy. I've found a CYMA hop unit that looks the same but that's in Czech Rep. Do I absolutely have to use the original G&G hop unit or can I reliably substitute it for anything else? I'll be ringing the techs tomorrow to ask if they happen to have any spares kicking around. Coming into airsoft late gifted me a much more realistic expectation of the hobby. I knew the popular airsoft videos weren't going to be a real depiction of airsoft but holy shit, I didn't realise how bad it was until I played at a couple different fields. I much prefer the airsoft content creators who are more bothered about showing off new/cool fields, guns/gear or just having a giggle with memes/jokes. Cannot stand the likes of KM or NamesNicco whos whole personality appears to revolve around him being an ex squaddie and thats it. The majority of airsoft youtubers rub me up the wrong way because it doesn't show the average player experience.

Worst: G&G MP5A4 simply because I haven't skirmished it since upgrades. Originally, it felt like the gun had lethargy and would barely cycle on semi. Full auto was hilarious. It was like I could hear the spring compress and struggle to get that last bit of compression before the gears would cylce enough and let the gun fire. Post upgrade testing; this thing is nuts. Turned it into a high speed build and holy shit, on a 11.1v LiPo it's fast af. Just wish they made aftermarket MP5 triggers. This worst gun could very quickly change as I think i'm close to securing a deal on (what I think is) a G&G CM18 Mod 1. The idea is to fix up some small issues with it, give it a bit of TLC and see if my brother wants to airsoft. If not, turn it into a little project gun, see what I can do myself. Best: Krytac LVOA-C. Aesthetically it's fantastic. Changed the stock to a Magpul CTR one, changed to a Prometheus 6.03 barrel. Only real negative about this gun is the hop unit, specifically the hop arm. Attempting to use anything other than the original Krytac nub/tensioner was pointless. I eventually gave in and bought a Laylax/Prometheus metal hop unit which has a much better hop arm that can accept aftermarket nubs without issue. Gearbox might be noisy but it's always performed well and, so far, just keeps on working.

Always thought the G26 was a goofy fun gun. Wanted to get one for a concealed gun during hostage games. The idea being if you're not totally disarmed and your 'guard(s)' isn't paying attention you're allowed to fight your way out. Not for that price.

Finally, pictures of my 'finished' G&G MP5A4 EBB. In the second pic you can see the rear drum sight is chipped, still looking for a replacement. Upgrades/changes as follows; Rocket Airsoft high torque motor Rocket Airsoft 12:1 high speed gears ZCI 240mm inner barrel Maple Leaf Macaron Bucking Maple Leaf Omega Nub Gate Pico SSR3 MOSFET (just to let the gun run 11.1v LiPo) CYMA MP5 Low profile mount Nuprol M110 Spring Rocket Airsoft Rotary Bearing spring guide New Guarder tappet plate Rocket Airsoft Piston Full metal piston rack CYMA metal RIS handguard Standard Tamiya connections rewired to Deans Genuine HK 3-point sling (I believe) ASG B&T Tracer unit. Changed the outer sleeve with a knock off one which fits perfectly and removes the ugly trademarks. Olight Odin with tapeswitch. Gun no longer 'twangs' when fired and has a high RPS but I haven't got a chrono to tell properly. 11.1v 30c batteries get toasty after a lot of semi fire. FPS is a steady ~339. Hopefully going to take it to a CQC field later this week and put it through its paces.

Good idea with the reflective tape. For ID/proof of ownership I was thinking of a couple things. One being using a white marker on the bottom of the grenade and clear coating it or two; seeing if there's anyone local to me who can laser engrave my UKARA and mobile beneath the screwcap, near the firing pin. Problem is that it's a small surface area and i'm not sure how much they need to work with.

Story? Also, how do you avoid losing your BFGs? I bought two SWAT VTGs but they're black. I'm worried about losing them even in a CQC indoors site.

I have a SOTAC XPS3. Bright enough to be visible even during the sunniest of days to the point where I even turn it down a bit just to save battery. I much prefer eotechs/holographics style of optics for the large 'target window'. I can't get away with stuff like micro red dots, T1/T2 etc or I haven't found one that works for me. I tried using a sight protector but found that it caused me more issues than it was worth and just removed it.

Sounds like you need to start speaking to the marshalls/field owners to get something done about this. That or go to a different field.

Gotcha. I'll wait for @TipsyDiver to reply as I want to know their exact headset setup so I can get a gauge on quality. It looks like a set of Earmor M32 but i'm not totally sure.

That's a great looking kit. I was wondering about your headset as i've also been looking for one that attaches to the rear mounts of my helmet and you happen to have exactly what I want. Personally, I don't need it for comms, more for aesthetics and the active hearing protection. Where'd you get it from? What's the sound quality like?

You could also buy generic dehumidifier bags from amazon and bang them in the case/bag. BZTactical have recently began stocking dehumidifier stones that sit in your gun bag/case but they come with a big mark up.

Fifewargames - they're out of stock on the official site and just about everywhere else when I was looking. Edit: As of 1450 today Fifewargames are also out of stock. Edit2: As of 24/1/23 they're back in stock, black only.

Got them today due to a minor delay in delivery. They feel good in the hand, wider/bulkier than most BFGs but fill the hand nicely. They're a hefty bit of kit, a good weight to them. The body is covered by a rubberised plastic type material that will soak the majority of impacts however the metal head is exposed and will take damage. 209 primers give a good loud bang. 9mm even more so. 12G are as previously discussed, as loud as .209 but a big ol puff of smoke to go with it. Only issue i've found is that one of my two grenades was a bit finnicky with the pins and required a fair bit of 'use' before it wore in enough to be acceptable. The other was totally fine out of the box. I can only guess there were some tighter tolerances during the making of the 2nd grenade. After extensive use i'd imagine it'll be fine. Tested .209, 9mm and 12G with both and they work like a charm. That 3/4 second fuse is not as long as you think

I liked them mostly because the spoons are fixed which means no lost spoons or buying replacements. As for noise, i've tested 12G blanks with other BFGs and they're barely any louder than .209 and they're definately not louder than any other single-use pyro I own. Only difference is the 12G blanks just emit a big puff of smoke when they go off. I legitimately think that the 9mm blanks are louder than the 12G ones. 12G blanks are just that much more expensive than 9mm or .209 that it's not worthwhile to be honest which is probably why most newer BFGs only cater to .209 primers like the Quake 8 etc. 12G blanks are £15 for 10. £1.50 a bang. 9mm/.380 blanks are £18 for 50. £0.36 a bang. .209 blanks are £8 for 100. £0.08 a bang.

2x Swat VTG. Been looking for some timed re-usable pyro for indoors games but they were always out of stock everywhere and the used ones were completely battered, some even had chunks missing from the bodies of the grenades. They should arrive tomorrow, can't wait to test them out. FifeWargames look like they had a small restock of Swat VTGs but they're only in black so I may have to find some luminous paint or bands so I don't lose them in a dark corner.

What a kick in the nuts, 10 months without and for nothing. Personally, i've just had my RIF back from the guys at 'The Cage Airsoft' and they were fantastic the whole time. From dropping off my RIF to collecting it, total time was around 2 weeks. While I haven't skirmished with it yet, test firing new magazines in the garage has been promising and I cannot wait to field it.
