T8 window mag has arrived, waiting on some steel take down pins, steel dust cover, and the BJ TAC 1.5 heat treated Japanese buffer spring to arrive. I think the heat gun needs to come out on the MK18 again after 3 years and what must be 50-60,000 rounds if not way more the modify tan hop rubber has a few small rips and tears with bits of rubber finally starting to affect the flight path of bb’s. SixG brass nub has been incredible and I’ve managed to have sniper battles with actual snipers when using .45g shooting across the huge valley at Stormforce. I’ve chosen not to use them long term as they travel way too slow and can be dodged matrix style, plus I like to be a bit more active. .36g seems about right for me. Platform overall is phenomenal, I honestly expected more problems than I’ve had, but my only issue I’ve ever had was a BB shattering and making it’s way into the trigger unit and jamming my fire selector, easily solved by a good clean out. She’s been well maintained internally, but I am rough with her, she gets chucked about a bit, and that’s what I want from my mws, I want a tank, that’s the way I want to build it. I’ve not even had to replace a nozzle return spring, and all those common wear and tare problems that we all warn new users of haven’t yet really surfaced on mine, I’ve even used the dreaded angry gun internals without issue, which is testament to this great weapon, I just runs and keeps running no matter what parts I use in it, or how I treat it on the field.

Hi all, I’m after some advice/opinions, I’ve had my MK18 MWS since it launched, I’ve skirmished it stock for many games, always maintained it after each game day, fired many a thousand rounds through it, it’s been thrown, fell on, slammed on the floor, slammed against trees as I’ve taken tumbles, nothing has ever broken, it’s so reliable, I’ve made all the internal upgrades I wish to, it’s one hell of a reliable weapon. I now want to finish it off with an awesome paint job, so I’m speaking to people who have already painted their MWS, is there any specific paint brands anyone would recommend? I’m going for a battle worn look but with woodland colours rather than fde as we don’t have desert environments in the UK.

Well guys finally got around to installing the SixG brass nub and modify tan bucking inside my MWS MK18, the barrel nut is so easy to remove so long as you have a heat gun and the correct tools. skirmished it with the upgrades for first time today, prior I had been running it pretty much stock on 0.28g BBs since it launched, I say pretty much because it’s also got a PTS MEC buffer with spacers in buffer tube to reduce bolt bounce. It’s had so many game days that I couldn’t put a number on the amount of rounds it’s had fired through it, and it’s never had any problems even the nozzle springs haven’t gone yet, it is however cleaned after every game and re-lubed. It’s so damned reliable!! Straight in with the 0.36 Vorsk BBs! First impressions? Well I found setting the hop to be quite difficult to be honest, It was over hopping on every setting, almost seems like it can now only be set at one end of the spectrum and it’s impossible to set it to under hop. It was slight over hop at lowest setting and extreme over hop at highest setting. Would heavier BBs open the spectrum up a little bit?? Make it more so it’s like - lowest setting having some under hop, middle setting having flattest trajectory, and highest having some over hop? This is how it always was for me running stock using 0.28, and I’ve only ever used 0.28 until now. Several magazines in and the range was definitely starting to improve and the trajectory seemed to be flattening out as the hop was bedding in but I feel as thought there is a lot more experimenting to be done to find that sweet spot of maximum range with flattest trajectory possible. Might try some .40g and upwards and see how that goes. how are you guys getting on with the sixG super nub?

GBB gen 2 3 round burst on a gas blow back is insane, and the build quality of this gun is incredible. I actually prefer it to my MWS, and everyone that I have shown it to, prefers it over the MWS. Yes there is a little stock wobble but this can be remedied by pushing the release lever in the opposite direction. how reliable is it? Time will tell. @Badabing has some awesome videos detailing this gun on his YouTube channel, for anyone interested check them out.

I own this gun, Personally I find it runs absolutely fine on green gas, especially on 3 round burst, wouldn’t want to use full auto in game anyway because your game would be over very quickly 😆 I find this gun has better gas efficiency than the MWS.

Hey guys, hope your all well, a quick question to all those who have bought the MK18 gbbr. Are you guys finding the dreaded barrel nut easy using the correct tool? Or is it still a struggle? I have been holding off on this for a while but think it’s about time I finally made the upgrades, I have the heat gun, I just need to buy the tool whilst they’re still in stock. I mean in the eagle6 video the guy used the long barrel tool and a heat gun, and he still struggled. Now this guy techs on people’s guns everyday. How are you guys finding the job? Also is 6.00mm barrel diameter too tight? Don’t know wether to go 6.03 or 6.00, obviously would prefer 6.00 if it doesn’t cause issues.

@AlphaBear I already have a SixG nub waiting to go in, I will look into getting the buffer as well, thanks! I have an Eagle6 nozzle spring, It’s the 150% one, is that the stronger one you speak of? I was keeping it until the original failed, but I may just swap it out whilst I do the nub. The barrel nut tool is available again so I will purchase that and hope it arrives by weekend, I missed out on the last batch…..bloody mk18 barrel nut!

Isn’t the red can of abbey equivalent of green gas?

I have been to a skirmish today and learnt something valuable about the MWS…….It much prefers Abbey ultra predator over Nuprol 2.0. Since last October I have run my MWS on nuprol 2.0 (green can) and I was instantly impressed by the range and accuracy but not the full auto, almost to the point where I thought it’s pointless this gun having a full auto. I even tried in hot temperature all 6 mags didn’t want to cycle on full auto. First time today I switched to Abbey ultra predator (red can) and just wow!!!! It’s like a completely different gun. Won’t be using nuprol 2.0 ever again on this weapon system.

exactly this! I have taken my MK18 to 1 game and the left side has very light scratches, almost superficial, some of them rubbed off and some remained but they are very faint. It’s from the gun resting and rubbing against my mags, metal on metal as alphabear says. The mags on the other hand have actually lost paint work, so they look worse than the rifle. I bought some Magpuls to prevent this. 3 genuine Magpul and 3 from Amazon almost identical price but the Magpul mag assist are a much tighter fit on the mags and this is what you want.

Twang, perfectly put, it’s exactly that a twang, so I’m just being paranoid then. My mk18 always struggles on green gas on full auto at around 10 degrees Celsius, got a game Sunday and temp looks to be around 20 so hopefully she performs well.

Hi guys, hope your all well, just wanted to run something past a few of you experts, on Saturday I filled 6 mags and took the MK18 out into the garden basically just to zero my holographic sights and have a bit of fun. First 3 mags were fine but as the other 3 sat on the table they were getting colder to the touch, anyway 4th mag goes in and she’s struggling to empty on full auto, and then the gas purged and it was mainly coming out the end of the muzzle/dummy silencer. Now I don’t know if I’m being paranoid but there is now a vibrating spring sound after every shot, I took out the BCG and every time I pull on the nozzle it makes a vibrating sound after it returns to normal position, I don’t know if the sound was always there? or if I’m just being paranoid?

@Kerberos On Friday I quickly made a tool at work for this but the bars external diameter was too big so I need to make a new one, I noticed my gas block was glued to the inner barrel, I was surprised by this as I thought it would just slide out after removing the 2 grub screws, that being said the missus hair dryer was enough to heat it up so I could break the seal. I won’t lie I’m actually scared of the heat gun marking the paint or causing some kind of discolouration to the receiver or hand guard rail. starting to regret not going with the original MWS now, my reason for picking the MK18 was that I believed it would be the MWS V2 reviewed, improved and finely tuned, and maybe it is just that! and that’s why we can’t get to the innards of this gun-because we don’t need to? I often hear people saying “why buy a TM and then change the internals? its no longer a Marui if you do that, It’s already amazing out of the box” so there’s obviously a debate to be had there because so many people DO buy a TM and change some of if not nearly all of the internals-and I haven’t been around long enough to contribute to that one. I haven’t had a chance to skirmish this gun yet, and all the test firing has been done in very small enclosed environments, however lockdown is soon to be lifted and we can go skirmishing again and see what the MWS MK18 ZET is all about.

yes it’s counterclockwise to loosen, where did you get the tool from? I have the heat gun, but I want a tool that fits all 4 teeth so that the pressure is applied evenly, at the moment I’m leaning towards making one myself with a bit of grinding and welding.

Unfortunately I bought the MK18 before we knew about the dreaded barrel nut, however I’m not rushing into upgrading, I have a SixG brass nub from Dave which has sat in my draw since November, I’m kind of learning from other people mistakes before I attempt it, this one largely comes down to having the correct tools for the job.

This is the tool eagle6 use in their videos for the MWS, so I’m thinking about buying one of these, they’re around £20. Grinding along the yellow line until it fits inside the DD rail, and welding a new handle on to it where black arrow is pointing, but that is assuming the castle nut is the same diameter in the mk18 and the teeth fit nicely.

It sure is a dark bronze, it’s lovely infact.

@SkyNex0did you use hammer and chisel on that nut? I’ve acquired a heat gun to do mine but I’m waiting until I find information on the correct tool, before I even attempt it. I’ve seen a few people asking about this nut but it still seems like an unanswered question in regards to which tool fits it best.

Looks good so far, must be someone out there who could make a steel version to your dimensions.
