  1. I’d be using black gas at sub 5C. Nuprol 4.0, etc, or MAPP. I’ve a GHK AK74 on the way that I’m planning to DH mod, it’ll be interesting to compare the cold weather performance of that to my MWS
  2. Have a look at the KWA MP9. I’ve had one since they came out and I absolutely love it. Next best thing to a modernised plastic UZI if you ask me. I prefer it to the weeny TM MP7, and as much as I love them MP5 ergonomics seem very dated to me. 48 bb mags on the KWA as well, and the suppressor looks like a proper bean can.
  3. That also sounds great. I’m fed up of shooting mine in the garden or at my warehouse - I just want to get to a skirmish and use it in anger again!
  4. Well, it allows you to use heavier bb’s, which seem to go further. I use Geoff’s .32 and a Modify X bucking with my Six G nub, they go miles - all the way right over there. I’d go heavier, but .32 are the heaviest Geoff’s make tracer, and I wanted to use the same weight for both tracer and normal. Costs tend to go up the heavier the ammo as well.
  5. Biggest problem I was having over the last 2 or 3 weeks was the effect of the cold on the hop rubber. I would have expected gas problems, but I got away with Nuprol 4.0, Rothenburger MAPP and Guarder power up black. Lowest FPS I had was equivalent 335 fps on .20g. However, the Modify X blue hop rubber didn't like the cold. I am trying to source a Modify X purple rubber, which seems to be rated at 55°. A bit pointless anyway, given the current situation. I wonder what the temps will be when we are out shooting each other again?
  6. I’ve considered one for night use under NVG, but I don’t think the ones I have seen available dim to a suitable level. The TM one looks OK at £55, but probably too bright not to bloom. Sod spending on RS, it’s just not money well spent IMO. Sticking to a carbine is probably better, or maybe some half decent tritium irons on the pistol? Depth of field isn’t a strong point of any NVG, so any irons are going to be challenging.
  7. I have been playing in really cold temps, -2° with snow covering the gun at points. My Sniper Mechanic Flamingo bucking has been pretty crap in the cold, I cannot recommend. I switched the rubber back to a 65° Modify X and saw a great improvement. I also recently switched from MAPP to Guarder Power Up black gas, and am otherwise running a RA Tech black NPAS, 303/6.02mm inner, TM nozzle, HAO lightweight bolt, SixG nub and HSB, with GG modded mags, and .32 Geoffs. After being outside for hours and covered in snow I am seeing a minimum of 1 joule, around 270 fps on the .32's. Inside my house my chrono is saying 380 ish on a .20, so around 1.3 J. I am really impressed with the Guarder black gas. Are there any other softer buckings I can try to help with the consistency of shots? My first few shots after not firing for a few minutes weren't great, and I was finding I had to apply several more clicks of hop than usual. Having said that, I was firing the MWS from an elevated position down into a valley and getting hits from miles away. I was having to burn through mags, but after a few ranging shots I was getting solid hits at well beyond 60 metres. I'm very impressed, although it's still tricky going up against open day skirmish 300 bb hi cap spray and pray merchants.
  8. Wow, that’s quite the slong. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Reminds me of that sweet period in the 80’s of using Bren mags on the SLR - not massively practical or necessarily effective.
  9. Bit of a necropost here, but an update nevertheless. I went to this site last Sunday, and I’m sad to say all of the above review is still the case. But now with added bad airsoft bingo: Wall to wall unchecked HPA wankers Hot guns Non hit taking Overkill Poorly executed medic rules I’m being harsh, and I think there’s more going on with the site than I understand. Everybody was friendly enough, but nobody in charge seemed to have a grip of what was going on. I was chatting with a lovely lad who had been allowed to use his hi cap fed Barrett 50 cal HPA, firing .43’s as a semi auto DMR on fuck knows what silly FPS. He didn’t carry a secondary, just grenades. It’s really put me off airsoft - 1/2 the site were using wanker HPA guns, I suspect mainly to circumvent the single shot only rule by feathering out 5 shot taps. However some were in my opinion taking advantage of the extremely weak chrono policy on site, where far too much trust was placed on players to say what weight ammo they were using. No tourney locks, no random chronos on .20’s. In my option having 40 odd players on HPA, poorly policed, is a recipe for a day of toxic airsoft. If every site was run like this I honestly would just quit, it was that unnecessarily shit. From chatting with other players, I suspect that it’s just how things roll there, and to be competitive the way to play is rock up with a HPA rig running 1.7 J, spam the trigger and only expect to have your hit taken on the 4th or 5th bb. Toxic airsoft, but if you go there knowing that and are prepared to play on those terms, it’s probably loads of fun for those in the know. As I said, the others players, site owner and ‘marshalls’ were warm friendly people who were up for a fun day, but ultimately the place was out of control.
  10. I have 3 already! 9.3” in black, and also DDC - I couldn’t make my mind up. I’m currently fettling a DDC 14.5” on a DMR build MWS. I just love the look and feel of this skinny rail. All HAO, I really rate their workmanship.
  11. Yes, very nice. I’ve seen photos of the RS green URGI rail, but never in airsoft. That could be a unique build you’ve got there, for now.
  12. Look at the Team Wendy EXF, I really rate my FMA copy. I’m not sure if the size will suit you, but it’s designed to leave certain pads out to suit larger heads. Mine was about £45 from Patrol Base!
  13. I’ve got the newer Element WADSN Dbal, and I find the IR laser too bright. It seems to hold zero, but I have stopped using it as I’m concerned over safety. The whole area of lasers in airsoft is a concern for me, especially with the Russian military stuff having the potential to be dangerously powerful. I wouldn’t be comfortable having one pointed in the direction of my NVG and/or eyes. I’m using an Eotech 552 for targeting, and find it superb for airsoft engagement distances. It just floats over the target and I rarely need to adjust my fall of shot to hit. I just don’t get it why players wander around with shitty light discipline, pissing out signature everywhere. White light or IR, it all looks similar under my NVG. I do use tracers though, which I know is a giveaway, but they just look so cool. Geoff’s make a nice .32, so it’d be rude not to.
  14. Is that 6cm on optics, red dot or irons? At the weekend I was shooting stood up supported, getting 6" at 30m with propane, 6.03/303mm barrel, .32 Geoffs, TM bucking, biro mod and red dot optic. Although it was a bit windy. So your 6cm seems very good to me. I'm tweaking my set up this week, and will give it a test. I'm planning on the same 30m range, Mapp, 370mm Crazy Jet barrel, .32 Geoffs, Modify X bucking, SixG nub, HSB, and last but not least a decent x6 LPVO. I've not even been able to skirmish the thing due to Lockdown2, but the more I get into it the less interested I am in picking up an AEG ever again. If we say a 2.3 joule bolty and mk23 is like playing airsoft on hard mode, is the MWS platform, with its 1/2 kilo magazines like playing airsoft on ultra?
  15. I know Phoenix was running every other Wednesday 7pm to 11pm, but I'm not sure how many turn up for that? Dark, dark woods there as well. I know of a couple down south as well - Splatoon which is Basildon and Gunman at Tuddenham. Hardly a cheeky 'nipping out for a quick game' option if your in the Midlands. You want a nice mix of buildings, roads and hedges really, which is what makes Anzio so ideal.
  16. Yes, I have managed to remove mine with a electric heat gun and 'special tool' I fabribodged at work from some (I think) 26mm OD conduit as seen the the attached pic. It was quite the horror show, but came off pretty easily once I had got it all clamped in a vice with an AR receiver clam. I shall be letting the tool go with the set when I flog the MK18 rail, barrel nut, flash hider, front sling loop point, rear stock and sights.
  17. Just a heads up for anybody after full size TM mags - Firesupport has had a batch in. 42 left as of this morning, but I have just bagged 3 of those... I could also use some advice with upping the fps on my newly aquired mk18. As a recent GBBR convert, I (possibly foolishly) hope to use my MWS as much as possible during the UK winter. After testing 4 types of gas on Sunday, I was seeing unimpressive fps: around 300 on a .20 using Nuprol 4.0 at 9/10 degrees outside. It's going to get much colder than this, and 300 fps is not going to cut it against AEG's at a 370 fps Stirling game. I am really enjoying tinkering with the gun, but have so far just done the GG mod to the mags, which has helped somewhat. The magazines do not seem to be the weak link, and the winter gases are doing the best they can. I'm building up courage to have the front end off, but I need to be very careful as I plan to sell the furniture as a TM complete mk18 upgrade kit, as I have other plans for the base gun. When I do get it apart, I have a 303mm 6.02 lapped barrel to try, and a nub and HSB from Dave on order. In the meantime, I have borrowed a rocket valve from an old KWA MP9, and switched out the stock TM one. After leaving mags in the fridge overnight, on Nuprol 3.0 on .20 bb's I chroned at 390 fps, then 380, 363, settling on 340 ish. Impressive, but not skirmishable. Angry Gun adjustable nozzle kits are out of stock everywhere, and when I asked a UK seller about MWS NPAS kits, he said that would not help, as it would not add fps that wasn't there to begin with? I have put the stock valve back in, but wanted to know if I can modify it to push a little more gas? Other than this, I think I will have to order something from Hong Kong, but what?
  18. Yet another new MWS convert here, after much umming and arrhing, I 've taken the plunge: After only recently coming back to airsoft after being clean for a few years, I now find myself furloughed and drooling online for hours. When I got bored of airsoft a few years ago, I'd ended up a PTW fanboy. Gas guns were crap back then. Things appear to have changed. I haven't taken this mk18 out to a game yet due to lockdown. Purchased from Eagle 6 this week, I took it home and had tremendous buyers remorse after blasting off a few mags in my cold garage in the dark. 1/2 a kilo per a piffling 35 bb's? WTF? And all the noise, clattering and banging disturbed me. After spending this week reading all 150 pages, I want to thank everybody here on this great thread who has contributed. I'm now a gas convert, and look forwards to joule creeping the shit out of all future skirmishes. My PTW's are boxed up in the loft, with their choppy mags and soulness gubbins. My G Spec has had it's beautifully lapped barrel removed, ready to be donated to this MWS, as soon as I can work out a good way of torching the front end off. My newly fixed MP7 AEG, pretty as it is, looks like it might be consigned to creeping around at night use. I can't help but think winter isn't the best time to adopt a fanatical GBBR compulsion, but here I am, getting involved.
