Didn’t you fancy waiting for the Angry Gun A1 receiver set? I’m not sure what the cost difference will be between that and the “cut & shut”? I’m tempted by either, if I knew where to lay hands on a spare bare bones upper?
-
Depends if you want to run tracer ammo.
-
I own both, and can kind of agree with Kali. The undersize scale of the MP7 is also a downer for me, but it’s my go to for jumping in and out of windows at Anzio. Loud as hell as well for that intimidation factor (until they see the weenie gun). On balance I prefer the MWS, it’s easier to dial in the FPS on an npas, and a lot more real steel kit fits it. I also find mine is a bit more accurate than my MP7.

I’m currently getting good range on an orange Modify X. I found the blue got chewed up pretty quickly, so I’m seeing how I get on with a harder compound.
-
Sounds like you’ve had good luck with that. I don’t know if I was doing something wrong, but I ended up not trusting my PTW. Dropping it in a lake in Sweden or crawling around in torrential rain at Copehill may not have helped either. I’m over the moon to be rid of finicky, over complex electronic toy guns. I think it was my 15 or so mags all slowly developing feeding faults that put the final nail in its coffin. I understand how to take these and AEG’s a part to fix, I just resent doing it and find it no fun. I really like the look of the new Infinity, but I suspect I’d get bored pretty quickly.

Sad to hear you’re not getting on with the MWS experience. As an ex PTW fanboy myself, I’m finding the overall reliability of the MWS platform very refreshing. I enjoy maintaining and tinkering with the gun, and it’s never let me down in a game, which I found was a major issue with my PTW’s, which I ran for about 10 years. I got sick of having to send them off to mysterious gurus for months at a time, to have various weak design flaws rectified at hundreds of pounds of cost. Worn sector gears, faulty motors, chopped bb’s, misfeeding magazines, catastrophic failure in very wet conditions, and a general lack of feedback from firing the PTW are all things that are thankfully long behind me know. They just got in the way of me enjoying skirmishes in the end. With a light bit of fettling, and good maintenance I’m glad to say neither my MWS or MP7 have ever failed to fire, and shoot accurately absolutely miles. Yes the mags are real capacity and realistically heavy, but I’ve completely got used to that, and I’m getting as many kills as I usually got, just with much more satisfaction of having bettered my hi-cap hose, sewing machine wielding opponents.

Guarder Power Up or Nuprol 4.0, maybe Rothenburger MAPP in a pinch if you have an AI adaptor and no sense of smell.

I haven’t touched my electric guns since buying my MWS, and now MP7. The AEG’s feel like lifeless, over complicated toys. I’ve started selling them off on a last in first out basis. Years ago GBBR’s were horrendously unreliable, but they’ve really matured as a product these days. I’ve also had to learn a bit about gas, and I’ve had my MWS out successfully out in the snow.

I hope it works for you mate, but I do not think Marui made their inner barrel nut to real steel specs. I got lucky and found some random pipe that we cut and bent to shape at work. Then loads of heat to melt the glue and it came off with quite a lot of force. Once off it's easy to get on and off whenever needed. The Brownells one in your pictures looks like it might fit, just go steady with it and send it back unmarked if it doesn't work. I'm looking at playing at MAW soon, so let me know if it doesn't fit.
-
Where do you live mate? I made a tool to take mine off, I could probably do yours if you're anywhere near Derby. Special tool, AR vice clamp, vice and electric heat gun where what it took to take mine off.
-
I use Geoffs .32 Bio tracers in my both my MWS and TM MP7 with no issues so far. .32 at 260'ish fps for CQB would be a dick move though, IMO
-
Yes, that’s the one. It might be better in summer, as I’m currently putting all sorts of winter gas through mine which might be smashing it a bit. Nuprol 3.0 and 4.0, Guarder black, MAPP - I think these add extra wear. I stripped it down today, and gave it a really good clean with IPA, it’s actually not in that bad condition. I think they’re probably good for 2000 to 3000 thousand shots. I’ve stuck a Laylax purple in for now, will do some range and accuracy tests tomorrow. Weirdly I’ve gained about 70 FPS! Must just be a better air seal with the nozzle and less friction on the bb due to less surface contact.
-
Ah yes, of course. Thanks chaps I think this is the one I was thinking about, I’ve got them on a few of my TM pistols: https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/laylaxnineball-hop-rubber-for-tokyo-marui-vsr-l96-pistols-mws-block1-purple
-
Good to know, thanks. Is it just a generic TM hop rubber then? In the olden days, it was common practice to replace them with a prommy purple wasn’t it?
-
What is the current hop rubber of choice for the MWS these days? I really rate the blue Modify X, it’s very accurate, but they’re costing me £12 a go and they don’t last 5 minutes. I put a brand new one in, and just 1000 bb’s later it is chewed up to buggery, and all over the place. Talk about the light that shines twice as brightly burns half as long. I think it’s just too soft, and is designed to be used in VSR type guns, which would never fire 1000 bb’s in 2 weeks. I’m running a 303x 6.02mm inner barrel, with a wide, open window and Dave’s nub.

Ah, that stay fresh clown. I was booked in at Phoenix next weekend - I've just cancelled due to this display of utter idiocy. Not good. -
I have heard the HAO one weighs a shit ton, and makes the gun quite front heavy.
-
You have to use the Angry Gun flash hider that comes with it, not the TM one These are appealing if, for some reason, you’ve decided to motorbike to skirmishes and everything has to fit into a backpack. After careful consideration I’m going to do what the IRA did, and split my AR into upper and lower so it fits into a smaller bag. Overall a bit smaller than that folder, and I’m £100 better off.

Arguably only bettered by kills with a 1 joule bolty.

It's hard to say, I have never touched a WE GBBR, but their reputation put me off GBBR's for about 10 years. I do own a GHK AK74, and it's been a bit of a pain. I had to reassemble it when supplied new by Defcon, as the top cover kept coming off - this was due to the outer barrel not been screwed in enough. It is OK to work on, and the steel and wood on it is nice. I have Devilhunter modded the mags, and they are solid. I think GHK mags are more expensive than WE ones because they are just made better. The AK74 ones hold about 50 bb's. Accuracy wise, it is grossly less consistent than my TM MWS, even though I have installed and fettled a Maple Leaf hop, hot shot bucking and 370mm Crazy Jet barrel. I have bitten the bullet and ordered a TNT APS-X barrel/hop set up from JK Army, I'll see how that fares. I think the MWS sets a high bar, and the M4 platform is much nicer to shoot and work on. The AK feels like a 70/80 year old design that was designed in a Russian shed, whilst the Armalite seems to have aged much better, especially when you slap on a decent stock, grip and rail. AK's are still great for that OPFOR look, but whilst the CO2 GHK mags are better and hold more bb's, and the guns weight about the same, I'm picking up the MWS more often when I shoot. And where have you seen a TM AK? Do you mean on video? AFAIK it could be years before they release it, but I'd bet money I'd be an effective product. And the TM doesn't have to look toy like, it's pretty easy to weather AK's, there's a few ways.

I think if they did an actualy IUR for airsoft I'd probably be more interested to get one, but I'm not into the faux rail offerings I've seen so far. I heard Archwick were thinking of CNC'ing a solid billet integrated upper receiver, but I'm not sure if they'd do an MWS version. HAO might do one for the MWS? I also heard an unobtainium RS version will fit the GHK M4?

I felt the same until I tried it. It feels very skinny and unobtrusive in the hand, it weighs less, and it seems to me to be ergonomically superior. I struggle to use the old RIS style now, it just feels like I'm tring to manipulate the gun whilst its attached to a clunky cheese grater. Whilst the mk18 had certain real steel advantages due to heat dissipation, these are not relevant in airsoft. I really like Magpul as an innovative modern business, and their R&D on M Lok was superb. I remember getting one of the early MOE handguards for my PTW about 10 years ago and liking it's 'high speed, low drag' ergonomics, and what Geissele have done with that concept is refine it further. HAO have done an excellent job again at making it affordable for airsoft. Firm handshakes all round.
