Does gate aster ETUs drain batterys quicker

Hello,

I have recently had a gate aster put into my ARP 9.

I use 1,100 11.1 batteries. All my batteries were converted from tamiya to deans to accommodate the gate asters dean power connector.

Before the aster would get half way through a day with 1 of the batteries.

Now I can only get through 1 fourth of a day with one of these batteries.

Is this down to the gate aster system with its optical trigger using more power con paired to the stock g&g button trigger unit???

Thanks

Short answer: yes.

MOSFETs cause a parasitic loss as they consume electricity in addition to the motor.

With that said, your experience sounds like a huge drop in battery life. Unfortunately, I can't give a direct comparison before and after with upgrading my P90 to using a Perun unit because I used different voltages and capacities of batteries but I'd usually get through most of the day (playing outdoors with varieties of single shot and full auto) before and after the upgrade.

All "intelligent" FCUs are on 100% of the time so they have a very slight battery draining effect.

In practice the effect is negligible and there shouldn't be such a massive drop in battery "life".

There is definitely something off in that RIF, could be the Aster (not the best Gate FCU to be fair), could be the shimming (iirc you had issues with it), could be the motor height (goes in pair with shimming) or it could be the motor that's about to die (something I've seen fairly often lately, only with G&G motors).

Also, for the love of God stop buying such tiny batteries. They don't provide nowhere near enough amps to let the motor do its thing and because of that they get stressed A LOT.

If your RIF can't accomodate bigger batteries, get a buttstock that can fit them.
