Technically you can't send a RIF via 24 it has to be done via 48 as far as I've always been aware

How did you pay, please say it wasn't via bank transfer or friends and family on PayPal

Also, who was the seller?

1st time using this

He's not been on since Wednesday, could just be pressures of work etc, I'll give him a nudge via email.

Out of interest, did he specifically ask for PayPal f&f or bank transfer ?

Yes you could be right , tbh he didn't say either way just sent me his details and I decided to do it through goods and services.

I just thought I would ask here maybe courier is checking it, but just seems strange that there is no information on the tracking

I've emailed him, if you've had no response or update on the tracking by Wednesday pm I'd consider initiating a paypal dispute.

If you do open a dispute, be aware that if you then cancel it you can't then start another one for the same transaction,  so you never stop it unless you receive the item, or a full refund, irrespective of what excuses a seller gives you.

Some good advice above. I have always sent RIF's over the past 15 years odd PF 24 and never had an issue - and I never take it to the post office and instead get it collected. I have also had them sent to me that way just fine too.

Enhanced compensation isn't available if you send it 48h or 24h anyway so you are at the mercy of the system regardless and my thinking is "if its going to go wrong, I'd rather it go wrong fast" when it comes to posting things, so that I can react to the issue just as fast. Luckily I think PF have gotten a lot better over the years, especially iow they are more under Royal Mail. I had an issue sending a guitar once but they fixed it quick. Also, even if you do lose something that is covered, I believe they would make it very hard to claim anyway.

Must be 48

You can insure accessories don't forget

I just think it's best to stick to the rules we have been given

I've been sending guns for 20 years and not had one single issue, imagine telling someone to use a different service and that one time it goes tit's up because of your advice, it would suck

You don't get any enhanced compensation but you can insure accessories

Retailers are allowed to use 24 because it's a business account

Sounds like a good idea .

Thank you for being very helpful

No problem, FYI the seller has replied to me via email, says it was collected on Wednesday afternoon so should be with you soon.

He also said he'll be in touch, so hopefully all be sorted on monday-ish ?.

Sometimes the pick up times, if they're in the pm, can add an extra day to getting in to the system.

Just keep in mind that if the seller has dropped it off at the post office and ordered the PF24 service, It’s 24 hrs from collection from PF, not 24 hrs from being dropped off at the post office.

I had an upset buyer about a year back because I sent a RIF via PF48 and it took nearly a week to arrive with him.

I live in a reasonably rural area, about an hour from the nearest PF depot. However my local post office is only a 15 minute drive. I dropped my PF consignment off at the post office on a Saturday, and PF didn’t pick it up until Wednesday. The tracking didn’t activate until it was scanned in by the PF courier… so from the customer’s end, it looked like I was messing them about. Even though I had a receipt to show it had been dropped off. He was patient and it worked out in the end. But it’s easy to understand why he got upset given he paid for 48hr shipping and it took 3 days to collect.
