Tama
Had a look at the radio guide and it seems like there's quite clear categories that radios fall into over here. I've just moved here from South Africa, but I have a radio that I took with me from there, it's just a simple little 0.5W radio with the following stats: 8 UHF (Ultra High Frequencies) Frequencies 38 Quiet (CTCSS-Continuous Tone Coded Sub-audible Squelch) Codes 83 Quiet (DCS - Digital Code Squelch) Codes 968 channels (COM 8) Digital Volume Control (5 levels) Channel Scanning VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) Function (3 levels of sensitivity) Frequency band: Simplex UHF 446MHz 446.00625 ~ 446.09375 MHz Transmitter power: 500mW ERP Size (inc.antenna): 131mm (h) x 41mm (w) x 22mm (d) Number of Frequencies 8 (12.5KHz channel spacing) Modulation FM Frequency Control PLL Would this be compatible with the local 0.5W radios? (the PMR446 stuff)
Supporters Prisce Posted July 16, 2019 Supporters Share Posted July 16, 2019 Should be the same. Can’t see why not, fortunately Radio waves are the same world over so you shouldn’t have any issues.
Tommikka
I’m at a conference (just waiting for a Brexit session to start) but the details you have shown look fairly like PMR446 or close enough. The 0.5w limit makes you better than many UK players who use imported or ‘licenced’ radios without a licence. If it is PMR446 then you can just switch on, if it’s close enough and programmable then you can possibly set it to specific frequencies by software and/or the buttons. Then it’s just knowing who you want to talk to and what channel/frequency https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMR446
Tama
Thanks for the info, looking at the link it seems to fall pretty neatly into the Analogue FM PMR 446 category. (With access to only the first 8 channels)
