SAW Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Has anyone used Plastic Soldier spray paint on a rifle? Looking at buying their US OD olive drab which seems to be very close to Humbrol 29 flat dark earth, which I've read is the closest to Magpul dark earth as you can get.

I have used Halfords Camo paints effectively, but haven’t used Plastic Soldier spray. I can’t see why it wouldn’t work. Just prep your area first, try in an inconspicuous place yada yada blah blah.
Iceni Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I've used plastic soldier paints on a gun. My M4 is currently painted with US olive drab. The paint sprays well, but it's not great at keying to metal. So use a self etch primer first. To make it more durable once painted hit it with a light dusting of matt lacquer. As for colour it's not even close to Magpul dark earth. Or the Humbrol 29. It's closer to 86 Light olive matt.https://www.humbrol.com/uk-en/shop/paints/enamel-paints/86-light-olive-matt-14ml-enamel-paint.html My tin is SP005 US it's the Tank spray.http://theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=98_99&products_id=527 SP009 the infantry spray also called US olive drab may be the colour you are after. http://theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=98_100&products_id=531 The colour code is on the barcode of the can if you are buying in a shop.
SAW Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 Thanks guys, was going to use it on my Mk12 which is currently sprayed with Halfords Khaki but I was wanting to deepen some areas with the Plastic Soldier paint. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-body-repair/specialist-decorative-paints/halfords-camouflage-spray-paint-khaki-300ml I was also considering spraying my SCAR which looks too light and wanted it to be the more true colour.
