Supporters Rock-climby-Dave Posted November 3, 2010 Supporters Share Posted November 3, 2010 when an object burns, my understanding is that it gives off carbon and it needs oxygen to burn (badly worded, but ya know what i mean) so can an element (any element) burn on its own in a vacuum? I would assume not as the fire triangle needs heat, oxygen and a fuel. and oxygen isnt a fuel so it can't burn on its own. anyone else know anything more about this topic than me? The most reactive elements that react with air alone are kept in vacuum's to prevent them going off aren't they so? Unsure, but I'd say no
