Hi guys, just thought I'd stick this up here.

I'm going to try and get a new video, or numerous videos, up every weekend at some point, currently there aren't any there because I need to get the ones I took over the weekend edited, but there'll be at least one up there by next weekend.

http://www.youtube.com/shuairsoftsociety

I'm currently uploading one to Facebook, so I'll send a link to that once it's up. The ones that go to Facebook will be unedited, whilst the ones that go to Youtube will be edited versions of the ones on the page.

Let me know what you think once the links are up, that's about the videos and the page in general.

Cheers guys.

First video, up on my channel. I ended up cancelling the Facebook upload because it was a joke. Took a stupidly long amount of time. So now I'm going to upload videos I take of my personal airsofting trips on my channel, and videos taken with the society, on the society channel.

Anyway, here it is:

I can't understand why it's only up to 480p even though I filmed in 720p and it's been live since about 2:30am, or at least that was the estimated upload time. Does it take that long to render in HD or have I done something wrong? =/

'Cos whilst I was editing it, it was definitely in HD.

usually youtube takes a little while to upload all the different sizes... although seems a little too long in this case.

What are your render settings? If you rendered in 480p then it doesnt matter what size you filmed in. Watching the video now :)

Find the option to change your render settings to 1280p x 720p and then you will have HD footage to upload.

I'm using iMovie and as far as I can tell, I have to "Finalize" the video and then export it to quicktime in order to get in on YouTube. But it's the finalisation part that seems to make it HD.

It's due to go live on Youtube at around 4 to 5am so I'll have to see if it works in HD when I wake up in the morning. If it doesn't then I'll have to find someone with a Contour who uses iMovie for their editing. 'Cos I'm out of ideas otherwise.

Try looking at this. It's all to do with the export options. Export is basically your compression and video settings. H.264 is part of the MPEG compression family and probably the standard used today for most home movies and youtube stuff. You can export in any dimensions but upscaling will result in horrible looking videos most of the time because the resolution just isnt there. So always downscale (no a problem for you since you record in HD):

I only skimmed over the article. I dont have iMovie installed so i cant do screenshots from my own mac, so sorry about that. But if you still cant get it done then I will try a little harder.

I've had a look over it and it makes sense to me. But since the video is uploading at the minute and I think it ought to work, I'm going to wait and see anyway.

If tomorrow morning I've got a HD video, then I'm good to go for the next one.

If not I'll give the hints in that article a go.

Cheers for the link.

New video is up, this is a role reversal of the village game from earlier in the week. This time I'm on the defending team and god does it get hectic!

Watch and let me know what you think!

Is the camera mounted to the side of your head? It would be ace to get an almost first person perspective having it square on your head but I think the camera you use makes it difficult to get a true "Ed-Cam" vision? When I get enough money I will probably buy a Go Pro :) Since I do fps gameplay commentaries mostly it would be interesting to see how my subscriber base react to airsoft.

Also I love how you're pretty chilled throughout the whole video.

Yeah it's on the right side of my helmet, about 2-3 inches to the right and 1 inch up from my right eye.

I'd like to have it a lot closer but it's almost impossible with the size of my helmet and the mounts available. I might buy a straight forward, simple strap thing so I can just attach it right to my head, then I ought to be able to get it within about an inch to the right of my right eye, might make for slightly better video. Especially considering the number of times I've been on a left hand corner shooting at someone, and all the camera can see is the edge of the wall lol.

As for being chilled, it's the best way to be. Calm and collective, aware of what's happening and fully in control. I think the reason my team won that game was 90% down to tactics and tactical awareness. Not sticking our guns through the windows, shooting from back in the building and sticking to the shadows when we could. I think firing on semi has a lot to do with it as well. It makes it a lot harder for people to work out where you're firing from when you dispatch everyone in around 5 shots.

Have you seen the video I put in the description taken by the other team? Haha. They thought I was a sniper, sat in the multistory building (which was about 15m to the left and slightly forward of the building I was in) who was cheating... Pfft. My video is evidence I was just better than them :P

We didn't even have a sniper on our team.

I quite enjoyed the videos. Tended to skip through to find the action bits rather than watch the whole thing though - to save some time.

Is the quality as good as you hoped for?

Finding the best place to mount the camera is difficult. Last week I tied a `spy' camera to the front sight of my lads gun and got loads of footage of the ground and players footware plus some action shots!

Maybe the ideal solution is a camera on each side of your head plus one on the gun rail and then edit all the footage into one!

I'm glad you enjoyed them :)

In the trench game I actually added a load of time stamps in the description so people could skip through the few large boring parts.

I would have edited them out, but I always think that ought to be something left to the viewer's discretion. So by adding links, people can skip if they want, but if anyone wants to watch all of it there's the option there.

I try to put a spin on some of my text edits to make them funny. You might miss them if you skip bits lol.

As for the camera's performance, I'm actually very impressed with it for £140 + the 32Gb SD card I for for about £20odd.

I'd have liked it more if it could capture in 60fps and the quality of the stills was a little better. Basically the look, feel and user friendly-ness is perfect with the Contour, but I wish I could shove the guts of the top line GoPro into the body.

Can't really moan for £140 though, the GoPro is at least £100 more.

Also! My ideal set up would be - Head cam + gun cam + camera man following me around.

'Cos then I could get everything on video!

If I got the gun cam I'd edit an ACOG cross hair on top of the footage, then have it in the top right corner every time you saw me sight in.

I can dream haha.

I think the GoPro would make a great head cam because it can sit directly on the flat of your head, almost seeing what you see. And the Contour would make an excellent killcam since its already a side mounting system. But thats a very expensive setup! You could buy an awesome new rifle for that much.

Watched the other teams perspective too, it was pretty funny.
