Spoon1990
As i am joiner and have copius amounts of timber left over i have decided to put my skills to work and make some wooden grips for my TM1911. i used walnut as it was the rare occasion that we got some in. i generally use alot of Oak and Mahogany. not sure if to persue this or not that is why i am putting a thread up here, would anyone be interested in such a product? if not i will forget the whole idea but if anyone is interested then drop me a PM or write back on here cheers This was just what i did over a lunch break with the walnut. That is bare timber and would be stained to colour of preferance after.

Spoon1990
oak can be done rather easily, as for lacquer i can see if the lacquer i use on guitars will work. It should as it is rather hard wearing but if your looking for that more real feel i can use some super fine white polish, this will give a nice shine (not as strong as the lacquer shine though) i would personally go for that but if enough people are interested i can do some simple samples of finishes and timbers and post them up. as for the rose wood the mahogany stained with the correct stains can give a rather similar outcome of rosewood as i dont come across rose wood an awful lot. i do have a friend that does furniture restoration and he may have a few bits about that i might be able to get hold of if you really did want rose wood. thanks for your input. Supporters Finius Posted October 3, 2012 Supporters Share Posted October 3, 2012 There was a guy who offered something similar on here a while back, with laser engraving etc as well, he was doing nice stuff and people were paying quite well for it, but I don't think it turned out to be much of a breadwinner in the end - good way to make a few quid from something you can do fairly easily though I already have about eight pairs of grips for the 1911 I don't have
