Simon Rees
Hi there, Been lurking for a bit and trying to pick up info before getting into airsofting. I'm a member of the 501st (Star Wars re-enactor type club or geeks in spaceman suits depending on your point of view) and there's a lot of crossover with many friends there being into (and talking me into trying) airsoft Picked up a lot of good info here and from a few friends who are into it. Managed to kit myself out with help from a friend who is a manager at JD Airsoft in Cannock and another mate who got into this a few months back and overstocked on kit. Pretty much ready to go and will be looking at either Black Ops Cribbs or Bristol Airsoft sites (closest to me in Weston super Mare). Anyone got any experience of these as to which may be better? I'm leaning towards Black Ops as it is rural/urban on an old military base, as opposed to Bristol airsoft which i think is CQB, being in an old court house. I reckon Black Ops would give a nice balance of long distance and CQB. Also a couple of questions. I'm kitted up apart from Headgear. I'm hoping to get an M88 style helmet, but will this provide enough ear protection? I have a half face mask, but the ears are exposed. I'm guessing a hit to the ear is gonna hurt like a MoFo. Plus, I love the thought of having a sidearm/secondary weapon. Glock would be my preference, I think, but realistically, how often do those that carry them, use them? Anyhoo, good to be here. AF-UK Founding Member Deva Posted July 2, 2012 AF-UK Founding Member Share Posted July 2, 2012 Welcome to the forums I'd try both sites A lot of people don't wear any head gear, just safety glasses. Wear what you feel comfortable with but make sure your eyes are well protected. People love having a sidearm but in reality, no, they don't use it much (out of necessity). Simon Rees
Thanks for the welcome. I prob will try both sites in the fullness of time. I assumed I needed to go to one site three times in 2 months to qualify to purchase RIFs, or can I still do so by visiting 2 or more sites 3 times in total etc? How does it work, does the site have to verify my attendance 3 times or do you get something like a card that is punched at whichever site, etc? I'll start off with headgear I think. My half face mask is not sitting right, so may go with a soft coveringfor the lower face and ears, or look for a mesh mask with ear cover. I figured as much about the sidearm, but thanks for confirming. I'm also worried it might get wrecked if I go diving around (vest mounted holster). I have a non-working 1911 that I'll put in to start, just to see if it gets trashed and then take a view after a few games. Thanks again!
joshcowin
hi mate welcome to the forums,to get ukara you have to attend a skirmish at any site 3 times over more than a period of 2 months but not more than a year, print of the document and take it too them and they will stamp it then you send it off when it has been stamped.as for face protectors these are the best of the best and this one includes ear protection http://heroshark.co.uk/#ecwid:category=0&a...product=9943560 as for a sidearm, dont always look for a pistol that looks good because some pistols are a pig to take apart and clean,or break easily.if you have a price bracket on how much you would want to spend on a pistol i could point you in the right direction. cheers josh
