'Sup people (North London/Middlesex)

Hey peeps. 'Sup. My names Pete, I live in North London (Come on the Arsenal) and I like guns...so I guess Im in the right place. I used to have a hoard of gas pistols about 15 years ago when I was 15 but had to get rid of them due to 'getting into trouble' and not being too responsable. Fast forward some years and im i go to paintball 3 or 4 times and really enjoy myself. Barring the expense (of ammo) I would go as often as poss but its just to much and then discovered an airsoft shop by chance and made the mistake of window shopping. I was happier then a paedo in mothercare! I would have picked up several guns on the spot but i soon learnt about the whole UKARA thing (which when i was first into guns many years ago didnt exsist).

Im am abslute noob in every sense of the word and Im trying to pick up as much useful info as poss. I am used to using forums (for many different hobbies) so thought seeing as Im gonna get into this I may as well join up so here I am. Nearest shops to me are proairsoftsupplies and wolfarmouries which I found both very helpful from a noob points of view. At proairsoftsupplies I met a guy (cant remember his name but he was very nerdy looking in a cool sort of way) and with another member of staff (who looked like a terrorist - again in teh cooler sense of the word) who pretty much spent an hour talking me through quite alot! I was very appreciative of this and wont hesitate to spend some doe with these chaps.

At the mo I literally have NO gear so Im a blank canvas waiting to get painted. Im probably gonna do the buy/rent thing so I dont have a bright gun before the UKARA is sorted. Im still undecided which AEG I want but I know i want twin D'eagles (as I had these before but obviously not to todays standard). One of my nicknames amongst friends is HOLLYWOOD as Im very over the top as you will probably come to find. I deffo place looks ahead of performance with everything lol so you are unlikely to find me in full camo and more rather an NWO tshirt and using guns not necesarily for an ideal use in a situation.

Any advice is good advice at this stage so I'm all ears (or all eyes anyways)

Welcome along.

First comes first - Law. You need a defence against the rules of the VCRA (violent crime reduction act 2007), not necessarily a UKARA membership. A UKARA membership is a very good method to prove your defence, but it is important you are aware they are two different things. Though admittedly this mix-up is probably the most common bit of mis-information in all of airsoft, probably even above "more fps = better gun". Either way, getting some rental games in (you'll need 3, over a period of more than 2 months) is definitely the right way to go. Saves you from the evil 2-tones and you get the chance to try out a few weapons while you're at it.

Not visited either of those stores myself, mainly because Wolf had a gold awful reputation for many, many years when I first started and I think pro supplies is fairly new (comparatively) to the market.

If you're after spending some time doing some online window shopping these are my two favourite UK retailers:

http://www.fire-support.co.uk/

http://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/

If you want to locate some skirmish sites, look here:

http://www.airsoftmap.net/Skirmish/

I'm from Harrow myself (when I'm home on leave), and admittedly we're not in the best part of London for skirmish sites but it's no too bad. I quite regularly attend X-Site Lane End near High Wycombe and their 'Outpost' site up Luton way is also very good. Not tried Red1 in Watford yet but it's certainly close enough to be worth a crack.

Ckin thanks for that note on the UKARA/VCRA as it makes clear sense in how you put it. Walking along the high street with your G36 and then producing your UKARA will not help when stopped by police lol.

Also being new to airsoft and asking lots and lots of people questions everyone keeps telling me to steer clear of wolf armouries lol. My mum once said if 1 person says you look ill take an asperin but if everyone says you look ill youd better go hospital lol. That many cant be wrong surely. That said I was in there the other day and they took some decent time to talk to me instead of letting me just stare at a wall full of guns lol.

Also I have lived in Harrow once upon a time. Used to work security in St Annes shopping center some 9 years ago so we may have brushed shoulders who knows lol.

Have not fully decided yet what kit I want but I know I may have to wait a wee while as I have a few things to bang out first (family holiday to Greece, 3x new arsenal shirts for family, redecorate sons bedroom, etc etc). At the mo I think im better off going for a higher spec (unfortunately more expensive) gun. I have always (stupidly lol) poured money into my hobbies. When I was into cars and bikes I spunked thousands on a family saloon and spent unbelievable amounts of food and shakes when i was once a 19 stone bodybuilder. So I thought sod it why break the habbit of a lifetime lol. That said the main thing is I buy something longterm which i wont want/need to upgrade. Im one of those people who buys what he sees and then keeps upgrading still lol. If I turn up to an airsoft session and someones gun shoots further, harder, louder and more accurate then mine then I WANT SOME OF THAT! i may be investing in a Tokyo Marui Scar in black unless there are enough people to advise me otherwise. I was able to demo the TM recoil M4 which just felt amazing. Looked the bizzo too but I suppose they should at thier price tag lol

Still not gotten down to a game yet as literally have not had the time but I have managed to collect a lot more gear for my load out. It's my birthday in a few weeks so mrs has said she will get my scar heavy for me.

My load out so far is black with a few hints of red here snd there.

Ha, nice. Maybe don't bring the knife in to games unless it's really, really soft rubber though.

Does your wife have a skirmishing defence to be able to purchase RIFs? Only ask since you mentioned you'd not been to a game as of yet.

Nope she doesn't but I made sure she knows the route to wolf armories (25 mins away) so she can buy it for me on the buy/rent scheme as I will probably be playing out at area mostly.

The knife is very soft. I have actually been trained/practiced using combat knives before I found airsoft. Will be looking to get as many knife kills as possible (via stealth instead of chasing peeps screaming liked a crazed idiot). Don't worry the rubber nice and soft and the edge is as sharp as sponge (I prefer slicing motions to stabbing ones lol)

whoop whoop... booked into AWA herts Sunday game (seeing as I ordered my TM scar and Marushin Raging bull via Pro Airsoft Supplies on the buy/rent scheme)

Was sat at work today thinking do I really want to go to a woodland site in all black.....hmmmmm....NO!

Drove to an army surplus shop in Watford called the Quartermaster Military store and picked up a few bargains. Getting stuff as cheap as poss was the main aim as I doubt I will play much woodland once I do get my UKARA as my black CQB loadout will be all I use.

mesh face mask

camo bottoms

camo shit

green dri fit tee

brown dri fit tee

pair of knee pads

all in £32!! Very happy indeedy

Then went sport soccer an got some trekking/climbing trainers and a cap totalling £16.

Not a bad days shopping to be honest. Once I get my UKARA I may be giving this gear to my brother in law anyways (unless there is the unlikely event of me falling in love with woodland over CQB lol)
