Ideal airsoft site?

So, what would you like to see in your ideal airsoft site and what turns you away from a site the most? I really want to eventually open a site and would just like to see what is the best way to layout and run one.

Personally I like a site to have a few distinctly different playable areas and like one to be a village of some sort. One thing I have never seen is some realisticly sized props such as artillery or a downed helicopter.

So what do you guys think?

a nice mix of man made and natural defences is always good, some fox holes/small ditchs to crawl through and fire from. buildings are always good and make for some good attack/defend objectives.

obviously old vehicles would be great however would imagine it would bump the setup cost up by a fair chunk.

i personaly wouldnt section of different areas imo you would be better leaving it open and deciding boundries on each game on the day this would keep it mixed up enough for people not to get bored of the same stuff

My regular site has a bunch of deactivated armoured vehicles in one game area, as well as a load of wooden structures, including a two story castle, or fort and a whole village, complete with church.

Don't think I could really ask for more from it really, not without being unreasonable anyway.

I think urban environments are the best, nice mix of buildings and outdoorsy woodlandyness. The buildings at my site could be a little more... Permanent? Maybe have a lot more stories and be more than just wooden stand-alone rooms but it's impossible for them to do that really.

One thing that really turns me away from a site is if it's just plain, with nothing in it apart from thoughtlessly placed trenches and sandbags. Defensive positions ought to be practically impenetrable and offensive routes ought to be littered with enough cover to make the defensive positions realistically attackable. It has to be fair, but challenging and the option of attacking from any angle should always be open to the players. Bottle necks are crap.

Nothing kills a game more than one team utterly dominating the other because the layout allows it. Or for the layout to be so half arsed that no one can get anywhere.

In short, open access with regard to attack and defence direction and well thought out coverable locations, opens up an infinite number of options, mixes it up. I've been going to the same site on and off since I started airsofting and I'm still not even remotely bored of it yet.

I like POW airsoft because it's well balanced with a little town, forts, bridge with checkpoints and guard towers

Its the only WWII site I know of with its own V2 rocket lol and there are plans to expand it

Hi Jake, I run a site in West Sussex and have to admit as much as i would love to add 'real life' props such as helicopters and tanks, like Lemon says they cost a lot too acquire and are rarely available, if you think the scrappage value of a tank alone is probably over £1500 so for a working smaller tank i'm guessing your talking £4000+? in which your looking at a sizable investment from the site for 1 structure!

My one suggestion would be find a ground with suitable natural topography which lends itself to putting up fewer barricades etc and allow players to use the natural environment as much as possible to achieve objectives etc obviously villages and substantial buildings are a nice feature but don't under estimate the cost, really your looking at the conservative end of £15000 as a start up cost for a decent Airsoft ground.

Hope this helps!

personally i like urban think an urban sight after a flood the more banged up the urban area the better you know craters, sand bags, a bridge ect ect but what i hate is a half arsed attempt at something ive seen some god offal places in my time and remember its the little things that are important like sneaky hidey holes or a bunker in the middle of know where

The only place I have been was a woodland site with a few well place log barricades to enhance natural dips and rises. That worked quite well.

Just as an aside my new favorite typo and phrase is "God Offal"! Thanks Craig!
