The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

The one I usually go for is Rubicon raw raspberry and blueberry flavour but if you really want to see noises and feel colours then down a can of Reign

Are you all tarded?  Only one drink has what airsofters crave.

Didn't play at all today at Worthing. I planned on playing, but we got there late due to an issue with the car, then by the time I had set up my Kar98k after the safety brief and passed it through chrono with one of the staff, the gameplay was a rolling assault down at the bottom of the site which is basically impossible to play with an MED because it's waaaaaaaaaay too overgrown down there; the entire bottom of the site really needs some help, as it's been neglected for years and has been retaken by Mother Nature. Heard that the game after lunch was going to be around the lower part of the site too, so I didn't go out, though I do think they instead decided to play at the top of the site after lunch. However I wasn't too bothered at this point and wanted to just make sure I set up my mk12 MWS as well as the last time I used it with a different NPAS, it simply wouldn't get up to power. At some point I will get the new maxx hop unit for it, but for now it's shooting fine with the 60d Flamingo rubber and the JP titan nub.

So while I didn't play, I did make sure my DMR of choice was shooting well, as well as making sure the Kar98k was still shooting really well, so that's nice. For now I think I'm going to stick with those two because the MWS is a lot of fun and the Kar98k is a real head-turner and both are shooting really well at the moment. Will probably take these two to the next game day I go to (or swap the Kar98k for the Tanaka AICS as that's a bit of a head-turner too), which probably won't be for a month as I'll be missing the next one.

Still loving the £20 AliExpress low profile belt kit as well. Such a great investment

Rather predictably, this morning saw me at Airsoft Plantation, where I met up with around 180 other players for a day of slinging plastic at each other.

After setting up and chronoing my recently overhauled and upgraded QBZ 97, which was shooting slightly hot, comparing guns, discussing the pros and cons of gas and gearboxes, and listening to the safety brief and the first game brief, our team set off for the mortar pits, while the red team went to the village.

We had two lives, while the attackers had 10 medics, upon whom they had infinite regens.  Their objective was to get three smoke grenades, which were carried in an ammo box, to their respective targets in the mortar pits.  They could not open the box to find out where the objectives were until they were in the mortar pits and, if the player carrying the box was hit, they had to hand it to the medic who saved their life, who would give it to the next player who regened on them.  I initially took up a position behind a berm towards the left side of the mortar pits.  The enemy took a while to appear but, when they did, the recently upgraded SR47 showed that the work that I had done on it had been worthwhile; it was popping BBs out to a great distance and had a much improved trigger response.  I got lots of good hits before being hit, whereupon I fell back to the bunker, from where the SR47 carried on as it had started until I was hit again, this time by an enemy player who had sneaked around the boundary berm on the left.  I joined my other deceased team mates along the back of the site to watch the fun, which included a brilliant piece of work from a rental, who took out several of the enemy before being hit.  Eventually, of course, the attackers achieved their objectives and, after a short visit to the safe zone to reload, the game was reversed.

In this iteration, I was one of the medics; our attack was pretty direct and we pushed into the mortar pits, taking a lot of hits along the way, which kept us medics busy when we were not shooting the enemy.  Our smoke grenades were set off at their targets in a time that was four minutes faster than that of our enemies. Hip hooray and tally ho, as Blackadder's Lt George would probably have said.

The next game was a fallback using most of the site.  The red team had to transport a casualty on a stretcher, which was a four person lift, from the far end of the woods to the border bridge, then to the town hall and finally to the plane in the DEA base; at each location, they had to set off a smoke bomb that was located there.  They had infinite regens on a marshal who was 30m behind their rearmost player, while we had one life in the woods, another in the border/village, and a final one on the far side of the firebreak.  We set up a two layer defence in the woods and I found myself being part of the second layer.  The enemy's attack was quite slow, taking a long time to break down our front line, who were well supported by those of us in the second line.  Eventually they did so and, after a bitter fight, we were overwhelmed and I made my way back across the border bridge.  I decided to make use of the boundary ditch, which is largely sheltered by bushes and small trees, as a good location from where I could easily move back and forth and pot enemy players as they advanced past me.  As some of you may remember, I have previously written about the different types of mud at AP and this location offered me a completely new variety to admire; it was reddish brown, clearly indicating that a different soil stratum exists along the far boundary, very smelly and extremely glutinous; I was as happy as the hippopotamus in the song by Flanders and Swann.  This plan worked rather well as I was able to shoot passing players from the ditch and then scuttle along it to another position without being seen.  Eventually, I heard a shout of "Game Over"; the enemy had timed out without reaching the town hall.

Lunch followed and the somewhat filthy appearance of my boots and trousers was in contrast to everyone else in the safe zone.

After lunch, the game was reversed, with our objectives now being limited to getting the stretcher and its casualty to the border bridge and the town hall, setting off their smoke bombs.  The group that I was with formed the right flank of our attack in the woods, moving along the boundary and getting into lots of engagements with the defenders; although we took casualties, we worked well as a team and overran them reasonably handily.  We then got somewhat bogged down at the border ditch and bridge due to a stalwart defence by the red team, which we we eventually overcame, but not before I twice had to go in search of the regen marshal.  As the enemy had taken heavy casualties fighting at the border, we were able to push into the village reasonably rapidly, getting the casualty to the town hall and setting off the smoke bomb there.

At this point, I had to leave as I needed to get home, sort out my kit, have a shower, and then get to Desertfest in Camden in time for Slift and the truly awesome, overwhelming and weirdly uplifting Earth.

It was a typical AP day of airsoft, with well designed games, great play and lots of fun; it was played in a good spirit.

I am not sure if I will be playing next Sunday; I am going to see Soft White Underbelly (aka Blue Oyster Cult) at the Islington Assembly Hall on Saturday evening and the thought of getting up early the next morning is not particularly attractive.

Weapons used:
Hurricane Kit SR47
MP5A2 (most of the externals are SRC, except for a CA SEF trigger group, and it has a mix of internal parts)
ASG XP18 Commander (CO2)

Drinks consumed:

Water

Tea

Was at Shift your Rifs and RIFT this weekend.

Boot selling saturday - was pretty good, actually sold more than i spent for a change.

Was meant to play Sunday until the 4 month old decided teething was much more fun, meaning i had to drop out last minute. One day I'll get to shoot people with toy guns again.

Spent my Sunday in the protected valley of the Dragon Lair. All in a decent site with a couple of limitations, the team are friendly and welcoming, safe zone is well covered and they are still improving the site to create more game play spaces.

It's even easy to get to if you ignore the £25 in public transport and cab fees....for the day, which I don't mind (too much).

The no bang grenade sucks but they do have a toxic gas rule to aid the balance of that, and they are on hotel grounds, so I get it.

Speaking of the hotel- they serve lunch, a good size pizza and garlic chips for the boy and I to share, bargain really.

The games themselves were mostly well thought out, and the medic rules they used for some of the games worked really well. I did try flanking on the left valley edge aiming for the plane with a small group to recover the gold. However we got held up by a couple of really determined and very well placed lads kept halting our advance.

There are a couple of choke points that fuel to shape and size of site are tough to break but all together good fun. I will be back

I haven't been since they did the most recent work and, based on photos, am slightly concerned that it seems to be turning into an outdoor CQB site; is that the case?  The choke points are a bit of a pain, but unavoidable given the slightly unusual shape of the site.  I do miss the old Dragon's Lair.

Kinda,

I had the most fun when I wasn't in the compounds (red). the yellow is a pond and wetland. The hashed area is started to shape into town/ multi building space.

Every other space is classic woodland. The ridge along the road and that slope is great terrain. The area above the hatched is also really good space but is limited to, as you say, the shape.

There are good los and fields of fire for more long range engagement, again on those ridges. If you want that cqb it's there, just run through the compounds, if you want the distance firefights, those opportunities also exist to a lesser extent.

For a small site, I think it does well but plenty of opportunity to play with game modes to decentralise the compounds.

Thank you.

it seems that they have not ruined the site; I will pay another visit next month.

Strikeforce CQB in Gloucester today.

Hadn't visited in a while, So I thought I'd check in on one of their Thursday games. It was quite packed today, (makes sense, half term) with around thirty of us, and we got in a good 3 games in the 7pm to 10pm. A lot of hire kits, But everyone was all good fun. Only an acceptable amount of blue on blue today.

Started with CTF, Went pretty well. Looks like they moved the objectives around again. Took us around 40 mins, Had a break.

Second was an interesting game where both teams had to seek out boxes with their colours on scattered around the place, If you found a box with your colour on, Bring it up to 'embassy' (raised corridor and rooms, About 15m long, 2 ladder stairs either end). Twist is, Each team has one half of the embassy each to drop their boxes. If the other team can make it to the other end, They can steal any opposite team boxes. And guess which team didn't have anyone with pyros. After attempting to retake the embassy for 40 or so minutes, Round was over.

And third was attack/defend, Attackers had unlimited lives and all, Defenders had to move back and area when hit, Until all were out. Wasn't super well conveyed where we had to fall back to, But marshall was there guiding defenders. Very fast paced, One guy on the opposite side had a ridiculous amount of pyros, Felt like enduring a mortar attack. Switched around sides after 20 mins, I called it a day during our attack. Gas mask was drenched even with my new DIY antifog, Caffeine had worn off and my ears were ringing.

Staff were good, Briefing was good, Looks like all the hirers got sorted out with good kit quick. It did take a bit longer than I'd have liked to get back to playing after breaks, But it's perfectly expected with the amount we had today, Staff handled it great.

Was a small incident with a guy blind firing down stairs during round 2 (reportedly not taking hits, But you know it goes with that), Marshals sorted it out great, Just had a small talk with the dude, And on we went.

Overall, Brilliant CQB site still, Very competent staff, Not too speedsofty, And good crowd.

And sorry for the Hoover dam of text.

Today I visited a new site: Northern Spectres Airsoft situated in the grounds of Sedbury Hall, Scotch Corner. This site has only been open (nearly) a year.

This site has one of the best setup safe areas i've seen. Large solidly built coverings with plenty of picnic tables available and space in the middle to move around in. Outdoors electrical sockets if you need to charge anything are also available and a couple of log burners. To the end of the safe zone was a hut looking out onto their small firing range which was also used for chrono. The safe area also has private changing areas, actual toilet facilities with running hot water. The site also offers hot food for a extremely reasonable price.

As for chrono, this site does not operate at the standard FPS limits. Most of the FPS limits are slightly higher than the standard but because I am dumb, I forgot to take a picture of the sheet detailing the limits they use for AEGs, DMRs and snipers.

The site itself is a pretty standard woodland fare with plenty of man made cover from tyres, wood and drums etc. The site has a few different structures with a small CQB area too. I spoke to the owner and he was showing & telling me about the plans they have for the site plus the ideas they have for a modular CQB space with lots of rooms and corridors than can quickly be changed so it doesn't become stale between visits.

The player count today was pretty low, about 10 people attending, which is not normal according to one of the more regular players I spoke to. This meant the games were pretty much 5v5 all day and were kept to small areas to keep the flow of the day going. Several game modes like attack/defend, capture the flag, domination were played plus a game where you had to capture tubes and deposit them in your teams bin - the team with the most tubes wins.

I took the Ares RDB out for it's second running ever. It worked fantastically for an hour before crunching the gears/piston. I took the gun apart and cycled it and it looked like it was working fine. I tried to field it again and it began crunching again - this time I retired the gun. I think it may have killed the piston teeth so there's a job for the next few days. I borrowed a G&G CM16 from the guy I went with to get me back into the games but had a lot of luck running with the TM Goldmatch in the CQB area.

This site has real potential and if the owner is serious about what he was describing to me, the site could be fantastic. The one thing that needs doing is advertising as they seem to rely on word of mouth a lot. They do have an instagram and facebook but there really aren't many photos or videos of the site or players on there.

I just got back from... not Worthing for once. A couple of us decided to head to Southdown / Allsorts Airsoft today for a bit of a shoot and all in all it went pretty well. It's been literally years since I've visited, and I've only ever been once before so it was basically like playing at a new site. Thought I'd give myself a handicap and decided to use my Kar98k, which means I have 4x 10rd magazines, though I couldn't go with no camo because my OD trousers have a massive tear along the crotch and it was just way too obvious / hard to hide, so I had my m81 trousers to go with my OD top.

Anyway, first game was a three base domination, marked with flags. I took it slow to try and get a feel for how the gameplay would flow and I think I got a good idea pretty quickly. There was a very shallow trench with a bunch of ferns growing along the side, so I ducked into that and posted up around a tree with a pretty good line of sight on the area we were playing. There was a lot of reloading my mags in between action, so while the 40rds maximum was very low, I didn't get into any situations where I was out of ammo and needed to shoot as I managed to keep on top of my ammo management and got some lovely shots in the meantime. We then swapped sides and I posted up on one of the flanks to make sure they couldn't sneak around us. It was uneventful, but someone had to do it!

Next game we had to find some small silver goblets that were scattered around the next gameplay area. We were at the top of a hill for this and it caught the wind something fierce. What made it worse was that the wind was blowing against us, so I was finding myself getting ranged by 1.1J AEGs even though my 2.3J Kar98k shoots really well; shooting against a strong breeze vs shooting with a strong breeze makes a hell of a difference. Managed to make it work, including some strong tilting of the rifle to try and counter some of the crosswind, but when we swapped sides it was a lot easier, though I did notice that my rifle was shooting a bit funny, so I sat the final game before lunch out to work out what was causing my rifle to shoot weird every so often. I think I've solved the mystery, and basically it boils down to my PPS Kar98k not liking my Tanaka Kar98k magazine. I think it's shooting a lot lighter than the PPS mags.

Anyway, after lunch we played the same game as before lunch but swapped sides. We had to get a bomb into the castle structure and then hold it (we were defending in the game I sat out before lunch, now we were attacking). I actually swapped to my SRS after lunch as I was getting tired of reloading those 10rd magazines in game so much, and being effectively down to 3x 10rd magazines was a bit more of a faff than I wanted to deal with. 5x 30rd magazines was... substantially more pew pew and I was able to try more extreme shots. This game I didn't use too many BBs anyway, though the following game where we had to arm a bomb in the middle of a different area I got a lot of 70-80m shots, curving it with the wind to hit people and it was insanely satisfying. This kind of game is why I enjoy my long range stuff.

The final game of the day was a survival game. Everyone was grouped onto one team with a few people on the other team with infinite respawns. The (initially) large defending team had to join the attacking team when they were hit, and with the attacking team starting with a bunch of my friends, I knew they'd have it in for me because they know I can hide well. I hunkered down in some ferns with eyes on the flank, draping my scrim net over my head, shoulders and part of my rifle, but as I saw one of my friends coming up that side there was ONE GODDAMN FERN IN THE WAY AND IT KEPT DEFLECTING MY SHOTS! He started shooting in my general direction, as he thought he saw me (he did), but I stayed perfectly still and he soon gave up on that and started shooting other people as he just assumed I was part of the bush when I didn't react to his shots whizzing past me. I decided to just give up and went to ground, holding my pistol just in case someone got up close to me and spotted me. As the defending team started to dwindle heavily, I heard some of my friends shouting at me with the "where are you hiding?" and "come on out!" lines. However, I stayed perfectly still in my spot, only shifting to look behind me when nobody was looking in my direction as that's where a bunch of my friends were who were looking for me. Fortunately, they didn't, and the game ended. There were about 3 of us left at the end who managed to stay hidden for the whole game.

All in all, it was a really fun day of airsoft. It was nice that there weren't any real problematic egos on site; everyone was pretty chill and there weren't any of the typical milsim-taking-it-too-seriously players either. It was just a really pleasant, friendly vibe. Staff were friendly and marshalls were active in game, making sure that anyone doing anything against the rules, and I heard them tell some players off for going out of bounds, and others for trying to move an objective. Hit taking was also pretty good, with only one or two players being a bit bulletproof that I could see. It was also nice to go to a site where there were areas where my 2.3J rifle could do its best work as when I play at Worthing it is waaaaaaaaaay too overgrown there and it's hard to really take shots over that 30m MED outside of a few areas. I love my long range shooting, so it was a welcome change of pace being able to actually shoot long distance, as I missed Shift Your RIFT last weekend which would've been my long distance shooting fix.
