Hi i have a G&G TR4-18 gen3, i have removed the end of the barrel and replaced it with an AK silencer (butted right up against the ris) - slightly weird i know but it does look good. a mate of mine has a G&P barrel mounted M203 that he is looking at getting rid of, and i thought it might work on mine. given that i dont have any barrel visible from the end of the ris to the silencer, i assume that i would need to have a ris mount - this is where my question comes in - is it possible to buy the mounts for m203 launchers separately? and if so where? many thanks Chris

just to give you all an update, after having been in discussion with G&G and the retailer, it has been decided to give me a brand new replacement TR4-18. fingers crossed i have more luck with this one. i also have a new 9.9V life being delivered too to give it a bit of a boost.

G&G top tech gen 3 owners - problems with MOSFETs?
chrisbirley replied to dex's topic in Electric Guns
Hi Cynic i was just wondering how your gun was now - have you had more issues with it and the mosfet failing? only reason i ask is that i bought a TR4-18 and as of yet havent been able to skirmish it as have had 3 mosfet failures - im running an 8.4V nimh battery too (have got a thread going in the technical section) and i have had a recommendation to use a higher voltage battery. was just wondering what you experiences were so far. thanks -
hi Trojan, yeah, im running the retailer recommended 8.4V crane stock NiMH 2200mAh battery. im more than happy to move to a different battery, and would have been happy to have gone to Lipo, but was persuaded against it for a starter due to looking at them funny and going bang (ok slight exaggeration). i have heard of issues with the G&G mosfet - mainly with people using 11.1V Lipos, but figured i would look at doing the replacement as and when it failed after the warranty expired - was not anticipating it being quite so soon thanks

so another update. i didnt touch the gun after having got it back, i had its first skirmish coming up the following Sunday, and new that if i found another issue i wouldnt have had it fixed in time, so figured i would wait. got to he site nice and early, sorted myself out and took the gun to the range to chrono it, and the first shot since the gun had come back from the retailer was a real struggle, it sounded almost as though the battery was flat and was struggling to spin up the motor, similar to what had happened the previous time. it was also firing full auto when set to semi. it chrono'd under the site limit and i started using it for the first game with much trepidation. i was right to do so couldnt fire i nsemi at all, and probably got about 12bbs fired before the gun locked up and couldnt do anything - not happy. wondering whether it was my battery causing the issue i tried a mates and that still had issues, and he tried my battery in his gun and that was fine. i emailed the retailer again and they have taken the gun back to look into it further. i also emailed G&G to get their take on this - their initial response was that it was the battery causing the problem and said that my discharge rate of the battery was too high - i informed them that i was using a battery recommended by the retailer. got a phone call form the retailer today asking me what the problem was as they were testing the gun and had no issues at all - when i explained things to them, they didnt see how the type of battery could be the issue, and said they would look further into the gun. the biggest worry i have is that yes i could get them to remove/ replace/ install a 3rd party mosfet but something is not right with the gun given that things seem to be blowing very very quickly. i will see what they come back with in their further investigations and go from there - im very very close to using the sale of good act with the fact that ive had the gun for just over a month and havent been able to use it for its intended purpose, so please can i have a replacement, but will give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being

ItsAJ, what gogles you using with that? also how do you find your mask - doesnt it send your breath into your goggles?
-
thanks for the input BrightCandle - as of yet i havent managed to skirmish with the gun - but that is all due to me as havent been able to due to work commitments. i will be this coming Sunday and hoping that all is good. whilst i have it under warranty i shall be utilising that as much as possible, and will use the first opportunity to test the hop and distance etc; but if it gets all too much then i will probably look at replacing the mosfet with a better one - like the one that Loz has suggested.
-
Hi Loz i like the look of that one - is yours hardwired in, or are you using it Plug and Play style? thanks

so, i spoke to the retailer, and they took the gun back to repair it - paid for postage and everything. sent it back to me after a couple of days, (the mosfet had burnt out). didnt have a chance to test the gun until a few days later. i started test firing it again, and noticed that the gear box was locking - that was me due to not fully pulling the trigger (will probably look at getting a finer trigger, but that will come later) and then noticed that for some strange reason the gun would start to fire fully auto when the selector switch was set to semi. this didnt seem right, but have seen it before with some rental guns so flicked to full, and then back to semi, but still had the same issue. i also noticed that when running it as full on semi it started to drain incredibly quickly. the gun went back to the retailer needless to say, was told that the problem was potentially the trigger or gearbox, or the mosfet. picked the gun up on Saturday and was informed that it was the mosfet, to which i replied again?? apparantly the mosfet in G&Gs doesnt like quick semi play - thats a shame as that is kind of how i play (at least at the moment). so onto my real question..... the gun has a year warranty and the shop have told me that they are happy to send me mosfets to allow e to replace it instead of me sending the gun back to them every so often - do i just do this for the year that it is under warranty? or do i look at removing the mosfet or do i look at replacing the mosfet with a better one - i have read that AB mosfet can burn out with high semi play due to how they work, so do you have any recommendations for a semi only (hardly ever use full) player with a mosfet? thanks

i wonder whether someone can provide me with some advice please i have recently purchased an aimpoint M2 clone with cantilever mount, and a 3x FTS QD mounted eotech clone magnifier. now im sure none of you will be surprised to learn that the 2 sights are not lined up properly, and this is where im after the advice. the distance doesnt seem that much, about .1 or ,2 of an inch, i can see the RDS through the scope, but the window is on the low side. should i get a RIS riser for the RDS, and if so where should i be looking for one, or should i look for a replacement to one of other of the mounts. having done some very rough measuring, it would appear that the centre of the RDS is about 1.64" and the centre of the 3x FTS Mag is about 1.75". which mount would be the easiest to find. or does anyone have any other ideas? many thanks Chris

many thanks for the responses, i had seen some of the talk about issues when using 11.1 lipos but didn't think it would have affected me considering i not using lipos. i will be contacting the retailer on Monday, and shall post as to how things go.

Hi, Hope someone can provide some advice please. I purchased my first RIF today - a very nice G&G TR4-18, it feels very nice, and has some nice features to hopefully mean i wont need to do much to the gun in the future. i was dissuaded against going for a lipo, and got a 7 cell 8.4V 2200maH NIMH instead, little bit of a squeeze into the stock, but it just means i cant use the stock fully retracted. the assistant in the store recommended that when i get home i should put a couple of hi caps through the un to bed the Hop Up in properly, so i duly followed his recommendation. the battery was already charged from the shop. i probably got through about 600 rounds before the gun stopped. it wasnt a slow down in the speed of the BBs leaving the barrel . the stock was very hot and i also noticed a strong electrical burning smell. upon removing the battery (it was fine, hot but no visible damage), i noticed that the mosfet's heat shrink seemed to have worn. given that this is a brand new gun, do you have any suggestions, or is this normal? i've already contacted the retailer and will case up on Monday, but just wondered whether anyone else had experienced similar or whether it is nothing to worry about. Chris

im after a little bit of advice please...... ive got some ESS goggles which as i have explained in a previous thread have some dodgy lenses (the seller is contacting ESS on my behalf to see what is happening with them, but that is another story) whilst i am waiting for that to get resolved, (im wondeirng whether i sweat too much) i was thinking of something like a Black Bear Airsoft Razor mesh mask, with some shooting glasses underneath for eye protection. like this: http://blackbearairsoft.com/ASR100.html what do people think of that? does anyone use a similar configuration like that, if so can you let me know what cheek welds are like, how cofortable is the configuraion, and how is fogging? many thanks in advacne Chris

hi guys ive done a quick search, but it didnt come up with anything - so sorry if this has been asked previously. i know what DMR stands for - Designated Marksman Rifle, and i know the part a DM plays in a squad as opposed to a sniper being a lone person (or perhaps with a spotter) but i was wondering more from the point of view of the gun. what defines a gun as being a DMR? do they have anything different compared to a 'normal' AEG? im just curious as ive seen site limits set for DMRs, but wondered how you distinguished a DMR from a normal rifle. many thanks Chris

thanks for all the comments, i think i might give them another go, but with an authentic replacement lense from a reputable supplier. if it still does it then i can only assume that i must have super strong sweat that eats anti-fog coating will have to wait and see.
-
@snuff - nope not done anything to the lenses except give them a quick once over with the ESS antifog cloth @Adam - thanks for the recommendation - would these work even sweating more than an incredibly sweaty thing (i was going for another saying but thought better of it in case of minors )

Hi guys just been to my second skirmish (1 more then im getting my UKARA still unsure as to what gun - i want so many!!) im after some advice. i purchased a pair of ESS Profile NVG goggles from ebay for about £25. went to my first skirmish, and they started flaking on the inside - i read somewhere that this was most likely the antifog coating flaking off. i emailed the seller who said they hadnt had any problems previously, and they sent me another pair. i used this second pair today, and the same thing happened. i figure there is either one of 2 things: a) the goggles are fakes, and therefore the lenses are not proper or, i sweat so much that it is too much for the lenses. im would like to know whether anyone else has had similar issues - im happy to buy a proper lense if you think that could be my problem. or i need to start looking for something else. im a little reluctant to purchase mesh goggles due to the potential risk - had some shards go through one of the guys airsofting today with his mesh goggles. Should i go for some smaller goggles that cover each eye individually - if so what recommendations? or should i look at going for a BBA rampage mask (or similar) and have some ballistic glasses underneath (to provide the protection)? or have i overlooked anything else? thanks in advance Chris

many thanks for all of your comments. dex, i was going to wait for the UKARA registration prior to getting a gun, but as i think all of you know, this is where the temptation comes in, but i really don't want a brightly coloured two-tone gun. i was just after opinions for when im able to get a RIF. i do like the M4, but i dont really want to be a sheep, on the flip side i dont want to completely go out on a limb and then not be able to customise the gun, find it difficult for repairs/ spares. ive seen the G&G TR4-18 and that looks nice - it is their version of the HK416, but without the proper markings due to licensing, but does anyone know if they are still making it as i havent seen it in their 2014 catalogue. also one last question for the moment, when it somes to purchasing a gun, what is the cheapest methos - buy from here in the UK, look for a site in the EU, price in Euros so slightly in our favour for exchange rate, or to look to the US, or further afield to order? i guess the only downside to ordering outside of the UK is the shipping charges, and then outside the EU is import duty, but can you make savings? thanks Chris

Hi all i haven't been yet, but have got my first skirmish booked for a week Sunday, with a group of friends from work, im sure im going to love it. i will accept i'm jumping the gun (no pun intended ), but i would like some advice on guns. im interested in the M4 variant, and was wondering what the difference between the M4A1 and the HK416 - or even the HK417 are - from the airsoft point of view. are the essentially the same gun? do they have compatible mags? i know that the M4 is a very popular type of gun and that the potential of being able to borrow a Mag if you are empty is increased. many thanks Chris
