Correct, I'm not 100% sure, I've just always been advised balancing is good. Fast charge is OK in an emergency but you'll apparently only get about 70% capacity
I believe (Key word - Believe) that a balance empties the battery in a sense, and then charges it to the capacity you have chosen. A standard charge just pumps in what you select, regardless, so you could charge and then charge, like I made the mistake of and fry your battery
