The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

This is the way.

Unfortunately I usually have to go at lunchtime. I have been told Saturday skirmishes are a different crowd and smaller numbers. Might be worth a look.

Played again at TAC House Spartan "The Stan" this sunday, we linked up with F Team Airsoft who drove up from portsmouth to Sheffield to give the site a try.

All in all a good day, we clocked in the fastest pushback time ever since the site re-opened at just over 9 minutes. we defended it for 23!

Decent selection of games as usual and they have just opened up an new staircase and we were the first ones to play across 3 floors, which is not great on the legs! Hit taking was good (it usually is here) and everyone seemed to play in the spirit of the game which always make the day better.

if you haven't been back to the Stan since it re-opened it is well worth a visit.

Simon

Well, yesterday at Red Alert was our 4th, and final, Battlesim in the Vukodlak war story line.

The past three years Vukodlak forces have been victorious.

Having played for Vukodlak in previous years, this year I decided to marshal which, as with many battlesims, meant playing as a civilian/quest giver.

I spiced it up by playing as a pirate.

I was giving out quests to find my lost parrot.

There were 3 inflatable parrots hidden about the site, but I had drawn an eye patch on one, and in my quest spiel I mentioned that Polly only had one eye.

If they brought back the parrot with the eye patch they got a reward.

I also had a bottle of grog, which got hidden, and there was a reward if they brought me "alcohol".

The main objective of the day was to find all the items needed to arm a rocket, and then launch it.

The rocket is something I've been building recently, but kept off of social media so it would be a surprise for the players on the day.

There were two nose cones, one for each team, a round one and a pointy one (pointy is scary).

Other civilians had other quests.

The drug dealers were selling bags of stuff, for in game currency.  This could be handed in to the sheriffs for a reward, or bartered with other npcs.

There was the Hobo wandering the site with his wheelbarrow full of junk, but underneath the junk was a laptop that contained the launch codes.

Driving around in his pickup was the arms dealer. He would sell you weapons that you could plant on any unarmed civilians you may have shot, and thereby avoid a war crime. ?

The Camels wanted water, mostly...

Some civilians were mercs, that would fight for a team for short time, if paid well.

At the end of the day Vukodlak were victorious AGAIN, despite some excellent play from the Calladian forces.

It was a bloody marvellous day, that ended with both teams wearing massive grins and swapping stories over a beer.

So roll on 2025, for a whole new story for our next battlesim!

Unfortunately a lot of people had already gone home before we took the last photo after debrief.

Just got back from an evening game at Top Secret (link here), a spacious indoor CQB site in Oldham, Manchester. It was a good 90 odd minute drive for eldest daughter ( @sofieb ) and I but it was well worth it. The site occupies the whole top floor of a former spinning mill that was first opened in 1862. As such, the fabric of the building is starting to show its age.

In the game zone there was a central area made of a circle of 6, or maybe 8, big green surplus tents and plenty of wooden structures taking up the rest of the large floor area. There's a maze, of sorts, and lots of walls and doorways. There are a couple of spacious open areas too with lots of cover to get dug in. Over all, it looks like some money has been spent on the initial build and subsequent upkeep. It wasn't shabby or rundown, looks like someone really keeps on top of it.

The safe area is big with plenty of table top space and a reasonably well stocked shop too. Shame it's on the top floor as there's far too many stairs when you are carrying equipment. There is a lift but its very old and it's not recommended that you use it!

The staff were all friendly and the safety briefing was adequate. As a site, they don't allow BBs over .28g though, which I found strange but thems their rules!

First game was a team death match. Apparently if you've played Call of Duty, you'll know what it all about but I'm old and have never been a gamer! Luckily one one of the youths, and by youth I just mean someone younger than me, told me that you go and shoot as many people as you can with constant respawns. In each spawn point there was an electronic counter that you hit every time you get shot and the team with the lowest number win after a 20 minute game. First game my team won and I've no idea who won the second when we swopped ends.

The 3rd game involved a VIP who could shoot back and you had to get him somewhere but I let the others take care of the objective and I provided support fire from various flanking positions. Even got a kill with my P226. That made me very happy.

Unfortunately, after the 3rd game my leg got the better of me and I tapped out. It was aching a lot before wee even got there so I think I did really well, moving with purpose and even managed a couple of half hearted runs.

My G&G rifle was lovely but the G&G branded midcaps were bloody useless! Just wouldn't feed. The M series high cap that it came with was fine, so I'll get another one or two of those. I only used one tonight as after each round it got refilled in the safe zone as it was so close. I spent a few minutes in the game area before playing commenced to try zero in my acog but there's something not right. When you watch the BB leave the barrel it has a reasonably flat trajectory but watching it through the acog it just seems to fly up, as if the sight is pointing downward. I'll swap it for a red dot as the lens does have a crack in it, so maybe there's more damage inside.

So, overall, it was a really good night at a well run site that we will definitely go back to.

@sofieb My G&G rifle was lovely but the G&G branded midcaps were bloody useless! Just wouldn't feed.
You may need to break in the middle caps if they are new- I needed to with a load of KWA mid caps before they would feed reliably. Basically load the mag to 75% then unload and do it again and again, working slowly up to 100% capacity. After, say 20 fills and unloads you will be getting there. I have in the past put a single small drop of silicone oil on the follower of the mag too before starting the above process which helps. But best keep the bbs that you've used for this separate after as they will be contaminated with the silicone and therefore hop unreliably. And be aware that a little silicone could still get into your hop rubber the first time you use each of the mags.

It could also just be that the mags don't sit right in your gun of course- sometimes shimming the front or back of the inside of your magwell with self adhesive (loop side) velcro can sort that. But before you bin off the mags, you may as well try all the above first.

The mag well already has a velvro patch on it so the mags sit very snuggly. They do need a firm push to seat properly. I did take take it out and reinsert with a little more force to male sure it was seated properly but made no difference. I'll try your tip though as i really would prefer using midcaps.

The G&G mid caps are notorious for not feeding in their own guns. I'd suggest either PTS EPM mags (not the EPM1s) or - hear me out - Nuprol mags.

I'll have a look at the PTS EPMs as i couldnt stand the piss taking of telling you all they didnt work! ?

I second that it was a great day.

Vukodlak didn't have the greatest start, but we definitely took back initiative after "lunch".

Was my first time being squadleader in a while, which meant I was in contact with both HQ/command and my squad. And neither would ever shut up, many times I had to ask for radio silence on the squad channel and a message repeat on the HQ channel ?

And I didn't get fragged at all during the day, so I think my squadleading went well, although my squad was a bit annoyed at sometimes being given more quiet orders.

"HQ, this is Charlie lead, we've been holding this position for 20 minutes with no sign of the enemy, requesting new orders"

"Copy that Charlie lead, hold position for now!"

"Understood, Charlie holding position" [grumble grumble]

Still had great fun tho, I might try to find more milsim events in my area to join. As much as I like the more 'arcade' skirm days, milsim are good fun as well.

Milsims are too serious for my taste.

Too many walts and weekend warriors preening over their authenticity and immersion, while playing toy soldiers in the woods.

I play for fun, not to have orders barked at me by a guy who suddenly got a small amount of power.

But to be that guy in power tho ?

I get your point, I'll probably just give it a go sometime and then make up my mind ??

Agreed. At least on a regular skirmish I can ignore the gobby idiot if their idea is clearly bollocks. Also I get the impression many milsims are pay to win or are more like larping to a set story line.

Friend of mine went to a milsim and his CO refused to talk to him because his kit wasn't completely right.

Get to fuck.

I went to a 'battlesim' or whatever at Imperium on Sunday. I enjoyed the more mission based stuff as well as slightly tighter rules but I was equally happy that was about where it ended.

There was a guy attempting to take charge but his ideas were a bit too 'over the top and walk very slowly towards the enemy' for my liking.

It's getting the balance right.

It needs to be more tactical and strategic, while balanced for both teams, without being a bore fest.

And there's always going to be those that take it too seriously. We had a couple last Sunday, but I think they got shut down by the fact that everyone else was having fun with it.

This is the best idea. Never miss an opportunity to have fun because someone on the internet said something negative. Worst case you spent some time and money on learning what you like and dislike about what airsoft has to offer. Best case you meet some nice people who want to get out of airsoft the same sorts of things you do, you get home and immediately start looking to see what the next event you can do is. If you can find a local site doing a 24h(+) game* then it can't hurt to check that out even if just for the sake of your sleeping kit. But broadly I recommend going to games which are put on my organisers who focus on hosting these types of games. Logistically speaking a game at an urban venue is a gentler introduction than one in the woods, but then again don't let that hold you back either.

*I don't think the term "milsim" is a good one but that's something for another time.

i finally managed to make it to RIFTs newest site this weekend, The Battery.

as i knew it was going to be a CQB site, i decided my primary weapons for the day were going to be my new KWA Beretta M93r, my KWA GBB Skorpion and my John Wick hicappa and TM Lycoris Recoil pistols as my backups (alternating between primary and secondary throughout the day) but i took a couple of long guns such as my Tippmann in case they were needed, but ended up sticking with the short guns all day.

i had purchased a bunch of mags for the m93 through RIFTs own shop, White Sphere Tactical, and arranged to pick them up on site... so once signed in it was off to collect the mags, bring kit into the indoor safezone.  standard fare for chrono, but due to the CQB, ammo weight was limited to .28g.

first game was team balancer and found that blue team was overly powerful, so as a lone wolf i got swapped onto red team with a handful of other players to balance the teams a little more.

game modes through the day were all 30 min games with quick breaks in between for reloading, which wasnt an issue due to the relatively small size of the site.  game modes included capturing ammo cans to HQ, moving a gas cylinder "bomb" to three capture points and capturing flag points around the site.  TBH, not knowing the site, i was more focussed on just getting kills for the first half of the day,  but i did help out with the objectives later in the day once i got more familiar with the site and my new guns.

one thing i really need to look into is how to mount tracer units on the skorpion and M93, as these would DEFINATELY have helped in the indoor sections.

i did have a bit of an oopsie moment (which i managed to turn to a win)...  at one point a blue player was hiding behind some corrugated steel barricades at the bottom end of one of the yards, so i decided to charge the location, laying down fire with the m93 to keep the enemys head down as i crossed the open spaces.  as i moved, the m93 gassed out (i think i reloaded the mag, but forgot to gas it..  oops..)  so i quickly took the m93 in my left hand and drew my JW hicappa as i reached the barricade...   where i hit a patch of mud, slipped over, fell into the barricade and as i slid past the edge of the barricade, managed to snap 2 shots off at the blue player, taking him out...    after getting helped up, quickly checking my gear and fist bumping the blue player, i decided to call myself out to go and check my injuries and thoroughly inspect the guns and fortunately found the barrels were clear, so i was soon back out.

and i was running a gopro on my helmet for the first time, so i might have caught my little fall on tape...   in the process of downloading the footage as i type this message, so i should know in a few minutes....

EDIT
i did indeed capture the incident on tape...
