Hey everybody,

Some advice please,

I got a new battery and charger, it's a 1400 mAh 7 cell 8.4 Volt NI-MH mini type (albeit ASG- came with a gun), and the Charger is a brand new 'Fusion 5IVE NX82 Dual 5A Output Charger', that's what it says on the box.

So, I attached the connectors to one of the charger outputs, and put the new battery on to charge, which it seemed to complete in about 45 minutes. At first, a red light is on, for the 45ish mins, which shows it is 'Fast Charging', and then after this period, a green light comes on instead, which shows it is 'Charged/Trickle'

After this was complete, I put the battery on to a discharger (one of the small Tokyo Marui ones), and let it fully discharge. This process was repeated in total 11 times, over about 8 days, then gave it a 12th charge and took it airsofting... where the battery promptly died after about 400-500 shots.

My mate advised that at 5A, the charger is "forcing too much current into the battery", and so stopping it from charging to it's full capacity.

This charger has no current adjustment control, it just says '5A' on it, whereas the charger he has is variable, and his battery seemed to work fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Henry

Can't really understand why you would want to run 11 charge / discharge cycles on a new battery. Who suggested to you to do that as it's a waste of time and probably didn't do your new battery much good?

Any battery needs to be charged slowly for it to attain full power, so 5A is way to high. That's about the rate you would use for a 12V car battery!!

I have a variable charge rate on mine and usually use the 180 mAh or 240 mAh rate to charge my NihMs. A 1400mH Nihm at 240 mAh would take about 8.5 hours to fully charge but should last for at least 2000 rounds. Slow is definitely better.

Thanks for the advice guys- been helpful!

Basically, I got told to fully charge and discharge it at least ten times by airsoft armoury folks. It was second hand advice from engineers they new apparently... is that not a good idea then?
