HW M800 (Mohoc copy) lens protector

Recommended Posts

I’m trying to work out a way to attach a replaceable lens protector to my Holy Warrior M800 camera. It’s off spec from a mohoc so the HAO lens protector doesn’t fit. I also need to keep the lens clarity.

Looking for suggestions on ways to go about it? 🙏

Polycarbonate disc trapped with a 3D printed cap like torch, red dot protectors.

How do you find the camera btw? Footage from ones I've seen have a weird focus issue that's supposedly getting sorted with a firmware update.

Honestly, as it is right now I would say it’s not worth it. The firmware was meant to be out last week but still isn’t available. The audio quality is awful, the image quality is odd and if you go through varying lights it takes a while to adjust so you end up with some bad brightness in footage (This is all on standard settings). I’ve heard from people that got a beta access to the new firmware that it’s fixed a lot of issues but haven’t seen it for myself. The build quality is decent though, the Velcro attachment is solid as well. I’ve had to run it off of a battery pack as the batteries die really fast! I paid £185 for it, and was very disappointed to be honest. Hoping it gets better with the update!

I did think about 3d printing one but don’t have a clue how to go about getting something made. I messaged the guy on eBay that does the torch covers etc (People recommend him a lot) but he didn’t reply to either of my messages so guess he’s not interested. The part it needs to slip over is cone shaped which makes it difficult. Currently the best thing I’ve came up with is taping an eotech protector to it 😂

It’s not pretty, but it works 😂

Do you have a 3d printer or a mate with one?  (if not, you will be surprised how cheap a perfectly adequate entry model is). I downloaded a ready made file a few years ago, and just scale it up or down within my slicer programme to pair with the cheap poly carbonate discs from ebay. I’ll give that a go, might be able to adjust it to fit the cone shape too

Oh, the lens housing is tapered huh. That's sub optimal. Maybe a few blobs/bead of hot glue around it to hold it on as I'm not sure I'd want to trust even a friction fitted TPU lens holder.

I was wondering about putting an o-ring inside of the cap so you can slide it on and hold it tightish. Or tape it on, I'm handy with leccy tape... 😂

Holy warrior say the lens is BB proof but, I'd rather not lose £185

After fielding it today post update, it’s fixed all of my gripes bar one (Files still randomly corrupt despite following the same steps for recording)

Footage is a lot cleaner now, stabilisation is good too. Still think you’d be better off with a GoPro though to be fair.
