Hello airsofters

I've got this MP5 on the way to me with a fixed stock

https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ics-metal-mp5-mx5-a4-airsoft-gun-aeg

And this collapsable stock

https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ics-retractable-stock-mx5-inc-clip-replaces-mp18

My question is how easy is changing the stock and rewiring? I'm told the wiring is kept in the fixed stock. Does anyone have videos/links or info that might help me do it myself? Or am I going to have to take it to an airsoft shop to be rewired?

Thanks again

Its not really easy. Gearboxes are either front or rear wired. Yours should be rear wired if it's a solid stock gun but you may luck out and it's front wired for some reason. To do it properly you need to open the gearbox and redirect the wiring into the front of the gearbox. If you can solder you could make a extension to run to the front if the gun but you maybe struggling for room.

Did you buy them new from Fire-support? Or is the gun 2nd hand and you've ordered a new stock for it?

Because if the gun was ordered new, you would have been better off ordering this instead: https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ics-metal-mx5-a5-airsoft-gun-aeg

I'm fairly certain that the wiring exits the back of the Gearbox on both fixed or sliding stock versions (assuming it's the 'old' model MP5, not the CES type they now also sell), with a tamiya connector attached very close to the gearbox itself - there's more room in an MP5 receiver than an M4 to do this. Extensions are used on both versions to wire to either the rear stock or the front hand guard of the gun.

Should be fairly easy if you a handy with a crimping tool or soldering iron - you shouldn't need to open the Gearbox at all. Get some good quality wire and deans connectors (Tamiya connectors must die!) and you are golden.

*EDIT* it turns out the wiring extensions for the Front or Rear of the gun are the same ICS part, so take the extension already in the fixed stock and route it through the upper receiver of the gun instead. Zero cost - No need for soldering or replacement parts at all, assuming the existing wiring is in good shape.

A very old video from ICS (1min onward for the stock removal and wiring extension):

Okay bud, suppose I'll have to see what type it is when it arrives. Thanks 👍

Thanks for the detailed reply man, explained a lot and the video certianly helped.

And I ordered the one I did thinking it would be straight forward to change out the stock switching between collapsed and fixed regularly. Hopefully I can take it to a local Airsoft shop if I really want to change it round. For now though I'm trying to replicate this as best I can so I'm happy with the fixed stock for now.

I have a torch handguard coming too. Hopefully that's straightforward to change out.
