dfs
hey everyone, so i recently discovered airsoft, and it fits the bill on what i have been looking for, in a way paintball never did, but im sadly totally clueless in how to start it. So first thing's first, im moving to the UK in 2 or 3 months time, and ill probably settle in the Guildford area, i have checked the map in the "http://www.airsoft-forums.co.uk/index.php/topic/3580-finding-a-skirmish-site/" thread and couldn't find a field for it near that area. (please bear in mind im not from the country so my idea of close distance can be totally wrong). So with that said how would i go about starting to play the sport when i move there? Thanks for the help, and sorry if this has been asked before.
Zak Da Mack
Welcome to the forums looks like your nearest site is Ambush Adventures Chobham. Which is only a 28 min drive, which is quite close comopared to some people. http://www.ambushadventures.co.uk/ Looks like a very good site aswell. If you're over 18, you could go to the site 3 times for 3 months aand rent a gun. Once you do this, you can get your UKARA defence which allows you to buy a black or camouflaged gun. There are laods of good sites to visit for guns, and you may want to buy some stuff to wear which you can easily find at surplus stores. Hope this helps Feel free to ask anything else
dfs
Thank you mate, that really helps a lot. Sadly i wont have a car anytime soon when i get there, so i will have to relly on public transportation. As for the guns yea i figured i would be better off just renting them untill i get my UKARA and actually know which gun i like best. (so far the g36 C and M4 are what i like best look wise)
TacMaster
Yeah, Chobham isn't a bad site to go to. last time i was at chobham in Feb. there was about 6 inches of mud on the ground(due to a crapload of rain), so a decent pair of boots is a good idea. However it is getting warmer over here and it's almost june so I don't think mud'll be an issue. AA Chobham has really good staff who are ex forces/cadet forces instructors (I was on a shooting weekend with the owner last Saturday ) who are really fair marshals. Rental guns there aren't that bad but the selection has gotten worse over the years. They used to have CA G3s and KA M4s/M16s but now it's mostly Cyma AK74Us. not a bad weapon if treated properly. welcome to the forums
dfs
thanks mate Im quite looking forward to it. Ill probably do a match or two in my own country to get a feel for the sport first, and well cuz im really excited about it . Just out of curiosity do you guys play matches every weekend or is it more of a once a month thing?
TacMaster
If I had the money, I'd go every other weekend most guys tend to do it every other month or something. i haven't been skirmishing for a while due to exam revision so I'm itching to get out once I pay for this expensive rucksack. But yeah, chobham has very good value for money compared to most sites. At chobham £20 will get you 6 hours of gameplay with breaks and free lunch. At say, the Mall, you're spending £60 just to rent equipment and get on for 3 hours. The mall has been sold to another events company and the prices might change but we don't know much at this given time. The Mall also has zombie nights with loads of actors playing the undead

Supporters Ian_Gere Posted May 28, 2013 Supporters Share Posted May 28, 2013 Where are you living now? Now I'm fit again I'm intending to airsoft about twice per month regularly, with a few extras for dates that look especially promising. It will depend on cash though. Woodland sites tend to be cheaper than urban, or CQB. My home site (Skirmish Airsoft Mansfield) costs £20 for the day for members or members of any other site (but no free lunch), £25 for non members. To rent it's £30 for an SRC Gen III G36C in pretty good shape, a face mask & camo overalls, with 1000 BB's, £40 with 3000 BB's, £50 with 6000 BB's. They also sell bottles of 3000 of the same 0.2g BB's (usually Blaster) for £8, so make of that pricing structure what you will... Welcome to the forum. Abandon all hope of disposable income here. From now on you're going to have great toys and be skint!
dfs
Currently im living in portugal Also wow those prices are a bit steep. Around here we pay 2 euros for an event. Of course there is no replica rental service, and we have to pay an anual fee of 25 euros, but its still incredibly cheap compared to what you just showed me lol. So basically if i want to get a rental ill need to pay the 20 for the event and add another 30 pounds for the weapon? Ouch i think ill just buy a two tone, or maybe just this http://www.proairsoftsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/cm16_transparent_starter_pack.html Speaking of which do sites allow me to use two tones or transparent weapons like those with no problem? Supporters Ian_Gere Posted May 28, 2013 Supporters Share Posted May 28, 2013 No, at Skirmish £30 gets you on the field with mask, camo, gun & 1000 BB's. I don't know of any airsoft sites that don't allow 2-tone guns. Milsim events wouldn't have them though.
