The link you gave for the charger seems to also give the answer - just under 2 hours when set on the 1000mA (lower) setting. The charger goes to trickle charge once it senses the battery has charged so you are unlikely to damage it if you leave it on a bit too long - would not leasve it all day though!

The time you saw online was probably for a lower mA charger rate. 1000mA is a fairly high charge rate for a Nihm battery. Charging lower and slower will actually make the battery retain the charge for longer. The normal equasion for battery charging is: mAh of battery x 1.5 / charge rate in mA. So example: 1600mAh x 1.5 = 2400. 2400 / 500mA = 4.8 hours or 4 hours 48 mins. This is assuming the battery is run down to it's notional voltage (i.e. 9.6V in your case) or lower. If the battery was showing about 10.3V on a volt meter then you could drop the charge time to about 3 hours.

Although your battery says 9.6V, when fully charged it will show about 11.3V on a volt meter if the battery is in good condition.

sorry rr but that confused me a little did u mean that if i charge at 1000mA then it would work out to 2.4 hours as 500mA needs a charge time of 4.8hrs.

i popped them on charge and the first one was on for just over 3 hours didnt feel overly warm and the charger had switched to trickle showing a green light instead of the red charging light so i assume they charged fully.

it wouldnt damage them if they under charged there very first charge would it?

Your charge sounds fine. The charger shows a green light when the battery is fully charged and automatically switches to a trickle charge so it will not damage the battery.

cheers mate that popst by rr had me in a panic lol

I think the main point he was making was thatb the 12 hour charge time waqs incorrect and that it should be 2-3 hours.

The charger you bought is quite a fast charger for the 1600 batteries and he was just pointing out that a slower charger might be better for a longerlife of the battery.

With the 1600 battery you would probably need a spare for a full day of skirmishing or charge up in the breaks using the sites chargers (they will be fast chargers).
