Element Max Speed in stock CM16 Raider-L?

Okay, I have a fully stock G&G CM16 Raider-L and I was just wondering if an Element Max Speed Motor would run properly in my gun (e.g: Not stripping pistons or gears).

Also, would I need to upgrade wires or my 8.4v battery? I have heard of them not working not due to motor height or any of that stuff. My stock motor stopped working for some reason that I am not sure of so I am down to either the motor giving up or the connectors being broken. I am upgrading the motor to this one since I might as well buy a decent motor if it is being replaced.

Will it work in my gun?

I might as well tell you the situation with my gun since I am here. One day I went out into my garden to plink at some cans since the next skirmish wasn't until a couple weeks away and I wanted to use it since it was new. But anyways, it wasn't working when I went to fire it, well, it fired for about 6 shots (I could hear the motor whirring slowly, and firing slowly) until it gave up. This was on a fully charged, newish battery. I tried adjusting the motor height but to no avail, I don't want to open my gearbox since I would never be able to put it back together.

If the motor doesn't solve the problem should I send it to a technician?

EDIT: I could feel the pistol grip getting warm if I held the trigger too, in case that helps.

Thanks for reading my post,

Philip.

The second thing happened to me on the day that i opened this gun, i recommend taking it to a technician to check it out as it is probably a loose connection in the internals of the motor if you havent already checked that the negative and positive wires are properly connected to the bottom of the motor , i dont advise fiddling with the motor to much though unless you definitely know what you are doing. im sorry but i can not help with the first question as i do not know much about different motors or fitting them but i hope this helped :)

I would think an upgrade motor ought to be alright without having to change anything else. But don't quote me on that, I don't want to be blamed if a piston strips or anything. I just can't see why it'd make that much of a difference.

Additionally, have you tried connecting the motor to a battery outside of the gun? If the grip was getting hot after the motor packed in then the current must still be running through it, so I don't think it will have burned out. I always assumed the circuit would be broken if the motor burned out, but I might be wrong.

Best thing to do would be to test it outside the gun, then you know the motor works so you don't need to swap it out.

You also then know that you're stuck with either a mechanical fault in the gearbox, a jam maybe. Or the wiring somewhere is at fault.

I'd probably advise sending it to someone if you're not comfortable with taking it apart, 'cos you're probably going to have to at some point if you find out it isn't the motor that's at fault.

Step one though - test the motor independently of the gun.

If the wires are long enough, remove it from the grip and just plug it back in (obviously without the gear end being in the gearbox), plug a battery into the gun and use the trigger to test it. That way you're testing the circuit of the gun as well, independent of the gearbox. So if it works then, you know it's a mechanical fault in the gearbox.

One of the first things I did was take out the motor and run it separately. It did work. I guess I was in denial of it being something more internal than the motor.

I think I'll just get a new one since it is still under warranty, then buy a GR16. That one appeals to me more with the functional charging handle and forward assist (plus the blowback ;)). I believe it comes with a better specced 6.04mm barrel too (I think).

I just hope this damn shop doesn't make some excuse not to give us the money back since they don't do airsoft anymore. The people in there are rude - when I got a charger from them there wasn't a Tamiya adaptor for the battery. My mum went back to the shop and said "It is your sons fault, he doesn't know what he is doing.". So I imagine it's not going to be as simple as taking the gun back and getting a refund under warranty.
