Magazine feed issues??

Hey guys, recently got myself an L86A2 ARES. It is a beaut and has been refurbished with a metal gearbox etc and fire like a dream.

The one mag i got with it was a 130 round Mid-Cap ares...

I dont have a speed loader and so have been manually putting BBs into the mag by pushing them in with a pen lid

Basically when i fire the gun too many rounds are fired, for example ill fire a single shot on semi auto...first round comes out fine.

I fire again and it plonks about 3 rounds out and they fall well well short. I keep firing and it keeps doing the same. When i take the magazine off i find there are quite alot of spare BBs loose and not in the mag.

When i fire on full auto the problem isnt too bad and i can fire out loads (fire rate is insane) but once i finish shooting a particular burst, then fire again i get the first couple bbs just fall out again before it keeps shooting normally!

Is this the gun or the mag? im confused. I Have ordered a couple of new TM M4 hi caps for it anyways so i hope its just the mag.

The ones you say just fall out when you remove the mag are supposed to do that, generally all AEGs will drop 4 or 5 shots when you remove the magazine, because the feeding tube that takes the BBs to the barrel is about 4 to 5 BBs' long, the tube fills with BBs when you stick the mag in and rely on the BBs behind them to feed them into the barrel.

The feeding issue is more likely something to do with the gun than the magazine. If it were a magazine fault then you'd probably find the gun wasn't shooting anything at all.

Feeding issues can be caused by the tappet plate, meaning it's a fault with the gearbox, or it could be that the hop and barrel aren't seated properly, leaving enough room for more than one shot to squeeze through the feeding tube and into the barrel/hop whilst the air nozzle is in the rear position.

I'm not trying to undermine you by saying this, but I'm guessing this is either your first gun or you know little about internals? So there's a fair chance a lot of what I'm saying isn't making any sense.

I'd suggest contacting the person or shop you bought it from and seeing if they can't take a look at it.

It might be one of those problems no one can explain though, there are occasionally issues like that in airsoft, where a random combination of things can just set it right. You might find that tweaking your hop up, getting the new mags, or maybe changing the ammo you use will sort it out.

I had a feeding issue with my L85 and using .25g BBs seemed to solve it. I can't explain why for the life of me but it shoots great now.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Thanks mate, not undermining me at all it is my first gun and im just trying to get a feel for it. Ive ordered 2 new mags a sling and a bag etc for it plus a spare battery and charger! so all in all ive spent about 400 quid, desperately hope it can be sorted out as i really love the L86 its my fave weapon.

Bloody heavy though but i like that!

Hopefully the new mags ive bought will solve the problem, ive contacted the seller and hes been really good with my questions. Just waiting for a reply on this issue from him hopefully it can be solved quite easily.

It's definitely an easy fix once you've pinned down the cause so I shouldn't worry too much.

Defo something with the gun i think now :( tried both of my new TM mags and having the exact same problem. Nightmare! Big disapointment i have had it 3 days and i cant even fire the bloomin thing properly. Semi auto dosent seem to be working properly at all even when dry firing now, charging the battery to see if that helps but i doubt it.

Sorry, forgot to check back on this.

Are you still having issues?

Glad to hear it, told you it'd be a simple fix once you got some idea of what the issue was :)
