mooleone
just got my z-tactical bowman and PTT this morning but cant seem to get them to work with my Cobra MT975. when i plug it in, it openly transmits without pressing the button and theres constant static and i cant hear anything from the headphone. a few websites sell these as a pack so they should work together. anyone had the same problem / know how to get them to work? cheers
RR01
The Cobra radios seem to either have a problem with the depth of the jack pin or in the wiring in the remote PTT (or both). I've not found a remote PTT that works specifically with Cobras, but bought a Motorola compatible one and split it open and re-soldered the contacts to the correct pins from the headset to the radio. As regards the small jack pin, try easing it out of the plug hole in the radio by about 2mm and see if the constant Tx stops. If it does, try what I did and cut a piece of rubber insulation off of a bit of 240V twin & earth live or neutral cable (about 2 mm long) and push it over the jack plug to stop it going in too far. You might need to do both things to make them work though.
mooleone
ohh ok that sounds like it could be very possible. could you PM me about this rewiring bit in more detail please. cheers
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 25, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 25, 2012 You could take the head-end and PTT off one of these and replace it with a generic socket from Maplin for the Bowman to plug into. The Cobra plug ought to fit perfectly into a Cobra radio and a simple socket seems like a pretty reliable solution in the field, rather than a lead partly hanging out, or with a bit of insulation on it, both of which could get knocked and fail easily.
