What are you listening to?

I struggle to 'connect' with the really heavy stuff more and more as I get older.

I've been listening to a lot of Chevelle at the moment, a very underrated band IMO.

So I have kept this mostly quiet but I am a bit of a musician. At the moment I am listening to a lot of MOL.

It's like if Deafheaven actually kept trying to improve on their first couple of albums sound rather then get cleaner and lighter. I love the mix of Minor and Major keys. Feeling depressed only to feel hopeful one riff later.

So confusing they named the song after also another fantastic band that is very much missed.

Class music there, @ak2m4
I was playing along to that on my geeeeetar (via ChordU.com) at lunchtime.

My playlist is a melange of prog rock... Porcupine Tree, Genesis, Rush, Marillion, and classic indie stuff from the 80s onwards.
But dearest to my heart... Cardiacs.   Normal people hate 'em.

Carcass and Death. Used to play covers of them in a previous life whilst touring in a Melodic Death Metal band. Crystal mountain was ace to play live!

If you were in a melodic death metal band mate, you weren’t in a death metal band!! Try eyesnomouth on Spotify. Mate of mine.

I used to do Pull the Plug back when I was doing the band thing!

Mr Chewer, I didn't get around to asking how you know of (the rather niche) Cardiacs?  Are you now, or have you ever been a 'pondie'?
Mr Chewer ?

The video for Is This The Life was on the chart show on channel 4 in the 80s, and I was hooked straight away.

Very sad about Tim.

No idea what a pondie is.

Ahah! The good ol' smash hit that was "Is This The Life", single of the week on BBC Radio 1 :D

I shall enlighten you - Tim (Gawd bless 'im) referred to the mosh pit as the 'Pond' and we were all little fishes swimming in it.... so 'pondies'.   If you've been to any Cardiacs gigs and bounced around in the mosh pit, you'll perhaps have bounced off me at some point!

I was an active member on the Cardiacs chat list for most of its existence, and funnily enough the Tuvan throat singing was a very popular thing for a while.  It's pretty damned cool, though I never really got into it.. bits of it give me some Dead Can Dance vibes (I was well into them for a while)
