I’ve finally got around to using my TM VSR-10 I upgraded ages ago this weekend. On the site Crono I had 1.8j using .30 BB’s.
During the game I enjoyed using it think it could be better. I was wondering if I can use a heavier BB? I don’t really want to buy more parts, all internals, trigger, etc are AA, 130 spring, maple 60.
I don’t want to waste money buying a 1000 .32, .35, .38, .40. Should I just buy .40’s or could this take me over 2.3j?
Thanks

Unlikely to see a significant change if you've got a 130 spring in there. Very roughly .40's probably give you 300-310fps (similar/same joules).

Of course, the easiest way to test this would be to borrow a handful of .4's from someone friendly just to chrono.

Most of the advice I saw when looking into building a sniper was use 0.40g minimum. Personally I currently use BLS 0.45g but will move to 0.48g once the 0.45g run out just to see if they perform any differently. I can't see you having any real issues by moving to a heavier weight unless joule creep takes you over the limit but I doubt it will.

joule creep on boltys typically requires some shenanigans, specifically a weighted piston, to have significant impact.

ofc you won't know for sure until you give it a try, the extra hop pressure you'll need to spool them up could rob some energy or the extra backpressure could do something odd (the wonderful world of airsoft physics, pressure curves and the strange shit that happens sometimes)

as for recommended weight, my typical line is if you're engaging at range (ie not cqb or the like where you won't see any real benefit) you want as heavy as your hop can lift and your wallet can bear.

Really appreciate the feedback guys.
Rickwales, thanks for the offer that's very generous. I think I'll buy 1000 .40's and see how I get on.
Thanks again
