The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

6 of us ventured to HC in Rowley Regis today.

Enjoyed it again. Still trying to get used to the layout and still come to a dead end in a couple of structures on occasion!! It’s my age you see ?

Had 1 moment in a game of 6 hits in a row and then got hammered most the rest of the games.

Last game was my favourite the team seem to come together and push with better results. At one point I found myself behind an enemy player who was  in a structure stopping the advance of a few on our team! Luckily my team didn’t shoot me as I popped out gingerly and as the other team player stepped out looking the other way I was able to hit him a close range.

He was super cool about and he had a fantastic Russian outfit on, kudos to him.

Was an interesting day at Worthing Airsoft today, and I saw @Hatchet today which was a welcome surprise, and I know @Reef was there too, but I apologise as I didn't see you about!

What he said.

A decent day at Worthing, despite the predicted rain that happily didn't arrive until I started driving out of the car park. I opted to run the NGRS MP5 A5 today and it was on point as ever. The compact size meant it's easy to tuck in to places and the accuracy is good enough to put the red dot on your target and get decent first round hits out to 55m.

As @Impulse said, we tucked in and shot a lot of people. I think I did about 10 mags worth of semi, which is good going. I didn't have a good picture as to what the rest of the team were doing, but we were actively engaged around the objectives and getting kills, so didn't seem any point pushing on. The teams had been split with new players and ghillie snipers being equally divided up, but there was still some rebalancing done at lunch. I ended up moved across to yellows and had to make that mental note of not instantly wasting the team you're now on due to colour confusion.

There was a balloon game. I didn't really follow other than to head vaguely in the right direction and harass people to cut them off from objectives. My teammates were very pleased with their inflated balloons (which had to then be taken to various objectives) until I queried why they didn't wait until *after* we got to the objective to inflate them, rather than running through the woods trying to keep hold of them. Always good to watch the expression on someone's face as realisation slowly dawns...

As noted, afterwards the Marshalls commented on how much better the yellows were now playing after lunch after the team moves. I didn't like to point it out BUT WE KNOW THE REASON. Just saying. ?

All in all, a decent day out, well marshalled and burger excellent. The only issue is the lack of magnified optics on the MP5, but then it's meant for CQB, not sniping. Next week I shall return to UCAP Vanquish and give it another run through in a more appropriate environment.

Having two guns to set up, I trundled off to Splatoon this morning in order to use their well marked out range.

Around 50 players were present, with Mothers' Day potentially impacting attendance.  Having set up my A&K Masada after maintenance and checked the power on my recently modified G36 (Hey @Asomodai, that G36C I bought from you has grown up to become a G36K!) which was, as I suspected, a bit low, I went through the ritual of chronoing the guns I would be using followed by the subsequent ritual of the safety brief.

The first game was a simple attack and defend in the middle section of the site.  With one life each, we defended Checkpoint Charlie, while the attackers, with infinite regens on their starting point, had to raise the barrier at the checkpoint.  Taking up a position near the rear on our far left, I had great fun shooting attacking players and a marshal (in my defence, all that I could see were his legs moving around), with the ARX160 reaching out across the playing area.  Eventually, of course, I was hit, being the penultimate defender to die.

After a shortish break to mag up, the game was turned around.  I joined up with a group of players who I then remained with for the rest of the day.  Initially probing down the right, we soon switched to the left and pushed slowly forward, during which I had considerable success taking out defenders behind the larger structures.  We completed the mission in a time that was eight seconds longer than it had taken our enemies, which was pretty close for a game that lasted just under 30 minutes.

The next game involved using the entire site.  Both sides started in the container village, with infinite regens on their helicopter (black for us and grey for the other team); the mission was to collect the three smoke grenades, which were at the other end of the site in the foxhole area, and use them to blow up targets in the container village.  While some of our team set off to try to grab the smoke grenades or prevent the enemy bringing them to the targets if they got them first, the rest of us fought those of the red team who had stayed there to gain control of the first target, which was the black car.  As in the previous games, our communications were on point, with good information sharing around enemy movements and positions.  There were some great firefights among the containers until a couple of our players returned with the first smoke grenade, which was duly thrown into the black car, whereupon the red car became the next target.  We quickly took control of the area around it, fighting off determined attacks by our foes until, fortunately, the next smoke grenade arrived in the hand of one of our players; the red car was soon belching smoke!  The final target was then identified, which was the tyre pile, which is in an exposed position in the middle of the container village.  Initially the red team seized control of it, but we eventually pushed them off it, holding it until one of our team ran towards it with the final smoke grenade; his throw missed the target but, as we gave him covering fire, he was able to scoop it up and lob it into the middle of the pile.  3-0 and game over, just like Aston Villa!

Luncheon was then taken, which seemed to go on for a long time!  A fair number of people drifted away, probably to be nice to their mothers.

Following that, we went out to play Spinners.  Each of the three sections of the site has a spinner; the winners would be the team who had two or more of them with their colour pointing up at the end of the game.  Each side had infinite regens on their start point.  Starting off in the middle section, our little group got to the spinner there; being the middle section, there were no secure flanks and we fought off attacks from the foxholes and from the enemy's regen to our front.  Being hit, a couple of us regened and went to the container village to see what was happening there; the answer was not a lot.  Our colleagues had secured the spinner and had pretty much pinned the enemy back, effectively locking them out of that area.  As we were pushing into the enemy in the middle section of the site, the game ended.  3-0 again!  It was noticeable that energy levels seemed a lot lower in this game.

After a long break, during which more people drifted away, another game took place; it was not a very good one.  The red team were divided into three groups; one group had to get on the red bus and defend it, the second group had to do the same on the lower deck of the white bus, while the final group were upstairs on the white bus.  They could not leave their designated areas.  Defenders had one life each, while we had infinite regens on the grey helicopter.  The biggest problem with this was that there were not enough openings for all the defenders on the white bus to shoot out of.  We killed them all.  It was not exciting.

After another long break, during which more players left, presumably to take flowers and chocolates to their mothers, this was turned around.  They killed us all.  It was not exciting.  The general view was that it was a pointless game.

At this point, quite a few of us left, so I have no idea what happened after that.

It was a strange day; the morning games were very good, particularly the smoke grenade one, while those after lunch were neither particularly interesting nor played with much energy.  The bus games were poor and were a waste of time.

Guns used:
S&T ARX160

I must figure out how to get to Splatoon, looks like a decent days shooting.

Red Mist 6: Operation Foxcub (Gunman Eversly, camp alpha) weekend filmsim, coldwar gets hot

An amazing turnout for the Saturday, around 60 split over Warpac (DDR Section + USSR section and Nato forces (Rifles had a whole 3 sections plus us 'paras' with a couple of tag alongs from the 55th.

A great day's shooting and story followed by a decent night drinking and social. For the Sunday numbers for both sides dropped but not crazy, the paras used:

a G3 (ICS, metal, heavy) and pleasure to shoot

a Fal which again super smooth and well hopped

and I was using my (toy weight) mc51 which I really need to replace some parts on, maybe look at hop options, likely try and improve air seal.

This sounds interesting.  How many DDR players were there and how strict were the kit requirements?

They have loads of (free) rental kit! DDR were around 12-15 players similar to the USSR.

Ben and Callum (and Josh) are passionate about the theme, as such do ask for particular kit, camp and clothes they are a little more understanding about.

So for Nato it's pattern 58 and no rails with actual barrel length (they would of course love us all to have SLRs) but along as it passes the 10m rule, so scrimmed rails...period sights rather than red dots and TACTICAL everything.

There are a few guides on Facebook (not the website frustratingly),

The organisers were amazed at numbers with both familiar and new faces.

We found WARPAC seemed to be operating in larger sections, so if they found a nato patrol warpac would be through them but if we were able to dig in and communicate another section would be in support soon enough to win the fire fight. On the Sunday, they operated differently and seemed to have the whole team on tasks...which was....interesting

I might have to join in at some point; I have a complete set of NVA gear, an MPiKM and an MPiAK-74N.  I have an SLR, but no 58 Pattern kit.

I had some in my youth.

I have done some Gunman filmsims at Battle Lakes. The problem there is that numbers tend to be very low.
It’s got quite a bit better of late - last month was 30 odd. Not huge numbers compared to some sites but more than enough for plenty of action.

*Full disclosure I’ve been helping out Val building new structures on site.

30 is reasonable; I will look at dates and book.

Damn that camo works really well in that environment!
As the lad commented: "It does work surprisingly well in dead brush.  There's been a couple of times you've been about 10m away and I haven't spotted you until you move."

First game of the year for me and beautiful weather for it.

First time I used the fan thing to blow air in my goggles and didn’t fog up once. Finally a solution that works for me without breaking the bank

Great day today, Another indoor game and decided to use my MP5SD6 instead of my M4.

Definitely made me choose my shots wisely as the mags don’t have the capacity of my m4 mags.

Wasn’t a high scoring game for me but was happy with the amount of consistent hits I got, albeit I came home looking like I have chicken pox ???

My lad enjoyed himself too although we did take the P out of him for his choice of headwear, all in good fun.

Ran around with my new arp9 with my drum mag and tried to pretend i was ten years younger until my back decided to remind me that im getting old! ?
