The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

Ill post the video our resident content farm creator put up, this is part 1 of probably 3, just covering the saturday morning. No matter your opinion on AI, you can't say it's uneventful.

After about a year-long hiatus I had my first game again yesterday, at Skirmish High Wycombe and I definitely enjoyed it.
The site has changed a bit since my last visit, although mainly the safety zone, with more covered tables (but thankfully I stayed dry yesterday), a better food joint in a separate container (their bacon baps are great and bigger than expected, I almost had some struggle finishing both).

It seems they have a few more marshals walking around now who are, thankfully, a bit older. From what I remember from a year ago, most of the marshals were quite young (some not even 18) which meant they didn't really have the (figurative) dick'n'balls to stand out over some of the rougher clientele. These new marshals were very good and didn't take crap from anyone.

Even tho it stayed dry all day, the field was quite soggy and muddy, but that seems to be the norm there

My highlights of the day were:

- Everyone doing their best to avoid a massive muddy patch to not get their shoes dirty.

- That same muddy patch having the objective, so there was no choice but to go through it if you wanted to win

- Coming over a hill and see a group of (opposing) rentals looking somewhere else and spraying the whole lot of them (about 15M distance so no need to feel sorry for them).

- Seeing the same group of rentals refusing to push the same flank for the rest of the battle and always attacking the other flank instead.

- Getting called a cheater by one guy on the opposite team who complained to the marshal about me not taking my hits.

- Another marshal standing close to me most of that game and noticing I accepted every hit I recieved (and even told me that I wasn't shot in the back but that it was a ricochet so I could stay where I was after I put my hand up).

- Seeing someones rifle stick out behind a barricade and hitting it from at least 35M distance. (Not that my aim is that great, I fired half a mid-cap that way. Worth it!)

Yesterday, 260 of us turned up at Airsoft Plantation for a day's play.  The large safe zone managed to hold everyone but it was fortunate that the weather was good as a fair number of players had to set up in the open.

As AP is a large site, it was able to absorb such a large number of players without feeling crowded; games were vaguely coronation themed to the extent that they involved kings and crowns, the titles on which included such well known British monarchs as Burger King and Porn King.

Both sides played hard and well and hit taking appeared to be good.  As usual, the marshalling was on point, being relatively low key but always where and when it was required.

At lunchtime, the food van served 240 people in an hour, which is pretty impressive; apparently, the food is very good, although I cannot vouch for that as I always take my own.

For me, one of the highlights of AP is the rapport among the players; the site seems to attract the "right type" of player, whatever that is.

This morning, I went to an airsoft boot fair in Kent; despite being somewhat on the small side, there was a good selection of items for sale, including something that I had been seeking for a while.  I bumped into a couple of folk who still play at sites where I used to marshal; one of the sites appears to have improved massively due to investment from the current owners so a trip down there is being scheduled.

Weapons used:
APS UAR
LCT PP-19-01

No weapons were melted or burned after yesterday's play.

First time up at RedAlert. I will be back, likely the bodies I that chauffeured me will be back before I am, which is rude.

So a quick and dirty run down. Loved it. We did well and managed to get a great space in the safe zone, to be moved on saying there is a couple of parties, went to actual safe some to loose out on the last table. Fine, compressed kit and found a spot to stand in, passed by @Skullchewer and some of the Outcasts, nice to meet you.

banter is very light hearted, even people asking for small favours or borrow X or y. The whole feel was very welcoming.

safety brief, well it's a safety brief...

they give good expectations as to turn time on games, but as always, it's herding cats.

first game is fast and a great wake up, lemmings they called it. Fun. Touch the police van, sat in the middle of the town with very clear field of fire surrounding it! I'll say this for the town, it is a great set up, lots of smaller buildings couple of taller ones many hiding spots and many ways of getting shot. Good fun it did feel like the reds (us) were going to get steam rolled as the yellows did take a some great angles to get them in.

turn it more fun but I did find the "incline" repetitive ?.

back in and new game - move box from a - b catch is (and I really liked this) carriers are designated and can only change at spawn. Defended first, intense heavy constant fire. Loved it. Anyway theme of the day was fun. First aid response was great (my brother cut himself open on a knee slide, the second one that day). Great showing from all involved.

do recommend, would have liked to explore the whole site, our day was very town centric but loved it. The paintball parties didn't interfere at all.

oh, and the rolling storm the fort? Very fast game. Smiled all the way through even if I did manage to stick myself in from of a number of people, and I know it looked bad as the reaction was "that sharp intake of breath" rather than a bit of a giggle, and yes it feels like a bruised rib and yes I did move my toy gun out of the way and take the impact on my rig....it made sense at the time.

As part of my promise to get him to as many fields as we can before he leaves, the boy and I were there yesterday too.  Was very impressed by the safe zone and the Marshalls.  Struggled with the morning games which I am putting down to not knowing the map, and suffering a few technical issues (one of his AEG's was firing whilst in safe mode and without pulling the trigger, which I think is a dodgy mosfet) and my Double Eagle was more a Splatter Gun than a rifle.

There were a couple of teenagers "shooting a video" which was their excuse for being thoroughly annoying by playing music during the game play, but I managed to keep out of their way for most of the day.

Really enjoyed the last game as our team had to get a stretcher with kings hats on it, across the majority of the map with the Blue team, I assume, on a rolling retreat.

My Specna was on form shooting nice and straight, but not as far as liked.  Was pretty impressive to see the food van clearing the queue, and this was the biggest number I've seen on a gameday at one event too.

We should be going back to AP for the two day event at the end of the month, although I'm not sure how my legs will cope.  I have a thermal camera for work ,so that will make night ops an interesting one - although I'm a little worried about the lens LOL.

Had a god day at Reforger the other week too, although I didn't get many kills.  I nearly put an end to my chances of being a grandfather when I lobbed a smoke grenade to cover the Boy's final sprint to the objective (suicide bombing the plane) only for it to land short - right between his legs and nearly cauterised his family jewels.

It's a shame we're out of sync with our regular sites' gamedays, but once SWMBO has fecked off for the summer I can sneak in extra days - but mum's the word on that one ?.

Yes, we were on a rolling retreat in the last game; one life in the woods, another anywhere between the border and the mortar pits and the final one in either the mortar pits or the field.

Glad you had a good day!

That particular safe zone hut is always reserved for the Paintball kids parties, when there are any,  unfortunately.

The next full battlesim is in a couple of weeks and they're always a blast!

Was good to meet, hopefully next time we'll be on the same team.

Also: I don't need to do a write up for my day, as @Jaylordofwaarghdid it for me?

All I would add is that they change the game modes up all the time. No two skirmish days are the same.

There's a couple of game modes I'm not overly keen on, but they don't detract from the rest of the day.

Get yourself a honeycomb style killflash.  It will cut out a bit of the signature but still usable.  Unless you want to shell out for a germanium lense protector.

Sad day last sunday, was playing at absolute airsoft and my makarov blew up on my hand:( thats 2 broken makarovs now but i do have one more. i just really like makarovs

You enjoyed the fort game enough!

I knew Red Alert had wone them over when they started talking about what and how they would do differently (bringing table) next time round.

Oh yeah, Rolling Fort is great.

Fort is always a fun one to attack and defend.

Another great day at Ambush near cobham where I decided to take the SA-02 put for some fun. Performance wasn't the best but I'm putting a lot of that down to me being a crap shot. Fortunately I had my MP5K with me to act as back up. On the downside, there were a few who seemed to think hit taking was optional, but they were only a tiny minority and were dealt with by the staff. To me it's nice to see a site actually do something and boot cheaters rather than be all talk and no action.

Went out today, taking the tri-shot with me as I'd not really got prepared to run the aeg...

Thoroughly enjoyed myself all day and I'm happy to report that the shotgun was only let down by my weary biceps by the end of the day.

Being up front meant playing the objectives which is what I prefer so played with a grin all day.

Not so much grumbly behaviour and hit taking seemed good (though I "missed" a bloke from a yard away somehow so not sure there...) so a good day all around.

Absolutely stiff as a board now though!  Gotta do some cardio inbetween games!

Good day at Red Alert Airsoft. Met with @Skullchewer and had some good fun. Especially the last game mode (can't remember the name of it) was fun. (no spawn, you raise your hand when you're hit and others can revive you. Aim is to shoot all the enemies so there's noone left to revive them)

Only downside was my new G&G Firehawk shot a bit too hot (307 FPs with 0.28's, where the max was 296). Hopefully gonna be able to get the spring out this week to shorten it a bit and get it within limits for the battlesim on Sunday.

Lastly, this was my first time using the ExFog system. It worked an absolute treat, haven't had any fogging at all today. 10/10, would recommend.

Sunday Skirmish at Gunman Tuddenham.

We had not skirmished for a couple of years, and with the lad’s birthday being soon, and my promise to treat one of his mates to a game being keenly remembered, we went to today’s game.  The weather was glorious, we arrived on time, and I remembered everything but my water bottle.  Luckily, I always have a two litre bottle in the van… which some swine had not put back.  First purchase then was six bottles of water, and three tickets at £30 a pop.  I also added a bag of Geoff’s .25gs.  These were £13 compared to my last couple of bags of Taiwan Gun Kilo 9s at less than a fiver!

Safety briefing was long detailed and pretty funny.  The youngsters laughed and seemed to stay attentive.  No questions were asked at the end apart from a bit of clarification, so top marks.  Game brief was concise and clear too.  First question from chief marshal was to remind anyone with a medical issue to have a word pre-game.

First game took place in the woodland area of the site and consisted of one team attacking two positions, both of which had a timed bomb.  If armed and defended for (I think) ten minutes, the attackers won the position, if the defenders kept them from detonating, then the defenders won the position.  This was a great game with the team moving up aggressively and communicating well.  Radios were used to good effect and the positions were soon in the hands of armband team.  We held these for the required time and were victorious in no time.  Someone forgot which barrel held the bomb however and was standing too close when it went off, which hurt their tinnitus.  They heard the warning shouts but assumed that they were for someone else.  Totally the player’s own stupid error (I’ll try and remember next time…

The game was turned around and this time, the bombs were defended with the same level of positive play that they had been attacked with, leaving both intact at close of play.  What I really enjoyed was the level of sportsmanship.  I heard a lot of ‘well done,’ and ‘good shot’ calls, and was on the receiving end of some great shooting.  Twice I was hit by people with the first couple of BBs, no walking in or huge bursts of fire required.  I shot well, getting the drop on several people despite little sleep.

I thought that both games had been well played and was just warming up for some serious play when lunch was called.  I seriously thought that we must have had two half hour games rather than the full sixty minutes each time.  It was that fluid and fast moving.

Lunch proved that you can lead a teenager to bottled water, but you can’t make it drink.  ‘I’m fine with a can of Monster’ seemed a keen topic of conversation, including between me and the lad’s pal.  I took a shoulder bag into the field with me full of water for the inevitable as the sun had really got out by now.

The afternoon games were in the village, a group of old Second World War buildings used as accommodation by bomber crews.  These are very difficult to fight around at this time of year as the foliage around them is thick and engagement ranges are extremely short in places.  You need to be quick and have 360 degree vision.  First we had to fight over two timers, one in the shower block, and one in a container in the open half of the site.  Snipers were restricted to the open section; limited respawns for the defenders favoured the attackers.

This was a seriously contested game with each side allowed use of one shield each, and the same level of gameplay achieved as in the morning.  It was really enjoyable to skirmish without a hint of the silly shouty bollox that infects games occasionally.  Unfortunately our team’s cooperation fell apart, and our attacks were ill supported at times, chaotic at most.  We were badly beaten, gaining no time at all on the clocks.  A certain amount of visible frustration did creep in for a couple of younger players, probably due to dehydration and post lunch torpor as much as anything else.

At change around a couple of players were ordered to drink at risk of banishment to the carpark or somewhere, being identified by concerned friends.  Looking after oneself in the heat had featured in the safety brief, and it was good to see silly sods get outed and watered well before the frustration reached a verbal level.  As it was the gameplay remained excellent.  I had traded with a player twice and both times we called having thought that we’d missed each other.  I felt really switched on and it seemed to be a common feeling for some reason.

Last game was a simple building clearance.  These are classic Tudders games.  Get four or five into a building and shout clear.  If cleared by a marshal go to the next building, if an opposition player has hidden themselves when you call clear, then you’re all KIA.  The non-banded team got off to a flying start, taking the first rows of buildings with ease, then slowing up as they got closer to the defenders positions.  I got into a great position in one building, hiding in a bush and shooting in through a window at the doorway.  I got a couple of attackers and was about to get a whole group as I was shot in the back by my own team, as I shouted out for them to watch their fire as we were in front of them.  In airsoft, don’t bunch up, don’t hang back, keep alert, communicate, and push the flanks are about all you probably need.  When you lose those, you’ve lost the game.  We lost the game quite badly, but I honestly could not care less.

At close of play, the marshals were amazed at the level of play, everyone sported a big grin, I had not heard one moan all day and we called it a wrap.  It was only when we pulled out of the carpark that I saw the time, I thought that we could have squeezed another quick game.  Then again, we had truly quit whilst ahead.

To be honest, we usually avoid skirmishes as the themed games are so much better, but we had a whale of a time today.  The game, gameplay and marshalling were spot on, the weather was perfect and the atmosphere was really good natured.  I wished that Mrs TPH had attended.  I leave her at home for the odd skirmish we go to, as any arguing, or sexist ‘banter’ or morale patches might lead to her sticking one on the offending player, but she would have loved it.  As it was, no girls were in attendance.

I hope that the high standard of play continues.  We had a cracking day out.  The G&G CM16 never missed a beat all day, although I accidently took the fucked ‘fet instead of the functioning one.  Lad’s mate used my loaner CYMA AK47 which performed fuss free; the lad’s half-brother used his CYMA M4 which still performs 100% despite it being his only, and hence only used rif.  The boy himself used a G&G electric recoil M4 which despite expectations has kept together as his main rif for four or five years. His CYMA AKM which was fitted with a scope for a laugh, but which did sterling work around the buildings in the afternoon, shot like a laser.  We did have a few misfires due to weak mag springs; as our first purchased G&G midcaps have tired springs these days.

I expect that most of us fell in love with this tomfoolery at skirmish games.  It was fun to be reminded why today.  My only moan is that we could have had an extra half hour or so.

Yup, bloody good day!
For the record @Smiling-Dutchmanis a good player! Takes his hits and plays intelligently, but with a good sense of fun.
The last game was stick in the mud. They often do silly little short games like that at the end of the day, that's a good one. The one time we tried it on full auto... ouch.
Thanks again for shooting me in the nipple ring ?

Had a personal best yesterday. In one game mode I set up in a good sniping spot with my DMR, got 6 definite kills and a few "Did I get that guy or did someome else?", with 0 deaths throughout the game, while holding an objective point. I'm sure others here have done better, but I've not managed a K/D ratio that clean before.
