The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

Until I went to chrono...
I think chrono was cursed yesterday. I've had my mp5 working fine all week. Dialed in the hop and sight in the morning, it was shooting great and feeding fine.

As soon as I get to chrono, first shot jams. I just could not be bothered since I didn't have my tool bag with me, so it was a good chance to test my mates aap01, which shot really well.

I also discovered the tac41 seriously needs locktite on everything. It was trying to shake itself apart all day, so that'll need some seeing to. Shot really nicely in the morning  though.

Good day though. Well fought games. Close ones, even though yellow had the edge all day. Mightve been too many snipers on our team ?

Went to my first ever proper game (not as a rental) down at Red1 Chiselhurst a couple of weeks ago. Wanted to put up a post to say that it was even more fun that I had hoped it would be. Weather was chilly, crisp but clear and got comfortable as the day went on.

I ran out my AEG for the first time. Its a VFC Avalon saber carbine I got off airsoft forums classified's second hand, but it was in basically mint condition. I was really worried it would be a lemon or something and I haven't been able to test it properly since I bought it back in Nov (I live in a small apartment)... but it worked really well after a bit of zeroing. Could probably improve accuracy/consistency by using heavier bbs but even on 0.2s it seemed good to me. Trigger response on 9.9 life's seemed snappy too but I don't have much to compare it to I guess. Only tech hiccup seemed to by my mags, for some reason my hi caps (VFC QRS ones) were a bit inconsistent, so I ended up fucking them off and using the one QRS mid cap and just refilling it as and when I needed to. A bit of a hassle but didn't ruin the day because I was picking my shots and not suppressing too much.

Rest of my kit ran well and was very comfy, particular shout out to my goggles (Valken) they didn't fog at all and I was really active and togged up in a few layers with a helmet and mesh snood too.

Site itself was a lot of fun - good mix of woodland, CQB and medium range combat, some fun game modes (one or two duds - I wasn't a fan of the fall back game mode on defense, felt like a lot of waiting around and wasn't as much fun as the more dynamic capture the barrel/flag/tdm modes).

Seemed a good crowd on the whole, fair few rentals but a load of dudes running their own kit, maybe 40/50 people total perhaps a bit more. Site staff were quite well organized and seemed to be fair when marshaling.

Only complaint about this site, and I'm sure they're not the only ones guilty of this, is the lack of toilets/plumbing but luckily that wasn't an issue for  me on the day.

Only complaint about my kit is that I realised getting a riser for my holo might make things even more comfy and easier to shoot with, and that  midcaps seem to be much more reliable/less fuss so will be swapping to those.

Highlight moment was a bunch of enemies set up in a building with oversight on our spawn and the area leading out of it. Me and two other rando teammates managed to basically push up on it, sneak under the windows of the building and then breach and clear it from behind. Was the type of moment I hope to have more of playing airsoft and felt really immersive and exciting.

Can't wait to get down there again!

I went for a woodland skirmish for the first time in just over a month on Sunday. I really had to convince myself to get ready and jump in the car etc. Even out on the field I was feeling a bit lethargic, especially after hop issues forced me back to a gun with just iron sights (I've really grown fond of using a magnified scope, even on a <350fps). My biggest complaint atm is the amount of people just kinda skulking off when they're hit. Especially those who wander around in the middle of the "battlefield" without their hand up (and teammate shooting over their shoulder). I really don't want to overshoot people but I'm sick of giving them the benefit of the doubt and slowing up the games because of it. I did actually have a good time in the end though, after some satisfying sequences. I suppose maybe that's the morale of the story, you sometimes have to be the one who makes it enjoyable for yourself.

It sounds like you had a great day.

From your report, it seems that things might have improved at Red 1 Chislehurst.  I have not been there for a while but words such as "organised" and "fair" are not ones I would have chosen to describe the marshalling there.

Shoot them

It is not overshooting if you shoot someone who is already eliminated, it is overshooting to continuously send in a barrage at the same person not giving them a chance to get out

If you play any game under my rule sets then sneaky players are encouraged

If a player is just bimbling along they may be a sneaky player trying to not look agressive

They could be an eliminated player not showing

(Or they could be an eliminated player deliberately obstructing and cheating)

The eliminated player must accept being shot if they are not showing they are eliminated.  It’s their problem

If they don’t want to be shot then they can put their hand up (or show a dead rag)

@Beorn - They're decent bunch at Red1 Chislehurst. I did find that some of the game modes led to wandering around, not knowing which direction the enemy team was shooting from. Twice I stumbled across gun fights between people on the same team.

Also yeah, most sites have rubbish toilets, Portaloos at best. Driver Wood in Crawley and Battle Lakes in Kent have proper plumbed indoor cubicles and hot running water though.

Funny you mention that actually. There was one player being repeatedly shot, putting their hand up but not moving. Turns out he was part of a group with half of them on each opposing team. He was playing silly buggers to stop his friends on our team from shooting his mate.

Disclaimer, I have only played there once and my other games were at Bunker 51 which I honestly didn't enjoy at all. By comparison they seemed organised but I've heard other sites have built insanely good reputations. Haven't been able to get anywhere like that yet so I wouldn't take my report as gospel :D

Yeah I really noticed that things felt aimless when playing that fallback gamemode, I think because it was sprawling over a large area it was confusing and people were just sort of waiting around. My site choice is limited at the mo because I don't drive. Might have to consider bringing some bog roll and a fishing seat with a hole cut into the bottom or something... improvise, adapt, overcome...

On one occasion at Red 1 Chislehurst, we finished a game and were about 10 to 15 minutes into the next game when we came under fire from one of the villages, which was not in play in the current game but had been the objective in the previous game.  The marshals had not told the few players still defending the objective that the previous game had ended.

After a few poor experiences, including excessive waiting around, marshals not knowing the rules for a game, the site owner failing to take action after a player shooting at wildlife threatened me for reporting him after he refused to stop doing it (it was clearly stated as being a serious offence in the brief), we finally walked out on a day when a group of players, including my son, reported a player for repeated non hit taking from grenades and BBs.  Junior marshal called in the boss marshal who aggressively bollocked the complaining players for not taking their hits and refused to listen as they tried to tell him that they were the ones who had reported the non hit taking.

It may have improved; hopefully it has as it is a cracking little site.

My eldest son worked at Bunker 51 for a while; it is/was a literal death trap.

@Colin Allen - Ahhh yes I remember the wildlife thing. I haven't been for ages but as I say generally had a positive experience there, definitely understand your sentiments though.

Lack of communication and authority of Marshalls is a pretty common issue from what I've found.

First game at District 23 last night. What a quality site. It's a 2 story CQB arena within a industrial unit. Player count was around 15 people or so which was good as the site wasn't overcrowded and let me learn the layout as well as let players get flanks off and get behind the other team. Marshalls were great, super chilled about everything. Chrono was done in good time and there were decent length breaks between games to refill mags etc. Took out my MP5, Shadow 2 and LVOA as a backup in-case the MP5 went down.

The MP5, with my hasty CYMA hop unit replacement, had feeding issues with the CYMA mags meaning I had to keep them pushed forward slightly. A bit annoying but other than that, the gun performed great all night and even caught the eye of a marshall who was asking me about it. Several players said it hits like a truck as well and the Olight Odin is like turning on the sun given how bright it is, however, it's a dead giveaway to where I was. The Shadow 2 was a nice piece of kit to have around for the tighter corridors/doorways of the upstairs area. Just a shame I couldn't get it to consistently hop .28g BBs accurately. Probably just need to fine-tune the hop.

One highlight of the night was pushing down the left flank and seeing some lad in a black cobra hood sprint past into a dead corner. I knew he had to come back past me but if I chased, i'd get shot in the back from their spawn. I lobbed a multibang the length of the lane and it exploded at his heels as he tried to escape. Being a mostly empty industrial unit, the echo from the multibang is unreal and prompted a few "WTF was that!" calls from the whole field.

Getting shot under the plate carrier sucks as well. Would not recommend. First game using my new setup and it's great. The plate carrier was comfortable for the entire game but never got to use my sling for the MP5 as I bloody forgot it at home. The two-piece molle belt was great and kept all my other grenades, pistol mags and dump pouch secure with zero movement.

Overall, it was a quality night. No issues with not taking hits, marshalling was fantastic, players were all super chill, especially the guy I kept teamkilling and he kept teamkilling me. Not sure how, but we kept finding each other on the field and managed to kill each other a lot. One note i'd make is that they could use some new, brighter bands for the players that wear them. They're so old/faded that it's difficult to tell who is and isn't wearing one in the low light areas.

When sorting my kit this morning, it appears as though my B&T tracer has died. It performed fantastically all night and when checking this morning, it wouldn't turn on. I tried new batteries and no change. I think it's gave up after one game.

They had a Tavor in their shop and I was sooooooo tempted to buy it.

My local site. It's a great layout for a small indoor site. The action isn't channelled down corridors but very much a 360 play field. Glad you enjoyed it. Wednesdays and fridays are usually quiet but sundays are normally really good.

Local one for me too being from Hartlepool and again, It was fantastic. I actually preferred the amount of people that were there on Wednesday as it left plenty of gaps/flanks to be exploited. Creeping about on the creaky floors and suddenly walking into a room of 3/4 people was a tense but fun time. The low light really makes it though, I even managed to shrink myself into a dark corner and watch someones shadow on the wall so I know they were coming in the room, they didn't make the most dignified of noises when I shot them ?
