G&G m700 knock arm and plunger set issues

Oh boy, it's time for Impulse to make a thread about a niche platform that very few people have experience with, asking for people with experience with specific upgrade parts

So I've been on a bit of a warpath trying to make my short KJW m700 magazines into usable magazines, as out of the box they tend to be pretty awful. The parts in question are the G&G gas route spring and the G&G knock arm and plunger set. No issues with the springs (outside of sixmm sending me the wrong ones), but the knock arm and plunger set I've had some issues with.

Depending on where I order them from has given me two obviously different plungers. I'm guessing one is a newer design, however the one I assume is a newer design is also too short when I install them. Also, the C-clips that go on the middle to hold them in place inside the magazine just don't fit on them either.

Also the knock arms simply don't work. They basically keep the gas router constantly open.

Am I missing something here?

And when both are installed

I think the G&G mags are a different design to the KJW ones? (G&G absolutely love cloning things and then changing everything so that it's not compatible anymore).

I know the magazines as a whole aren't cross compatible so it's probable the knock arms, etc aren't.

Side note after tinkering with the M700 I got recently, what an absolutely Acme-ass firing system they have.

Yeah, it's just weird that the older G&G plungers work really well in KJW m700 mags, but the newer ones just... don't. I've installed 4 sets of old-style plungers, so I have 4 short KJW mags that should hopefully work well now, just pending some testing this weekend.

And that's what I thought with the knock arm. I was wondering if it'd work in a Tanaka mag, but I only have 1 of those and I'd rather not risk taking it apart; I don't use it, but it's a nice piece of history to have.

And I think you mean it's an elegant firing system from a more civilised age! 😂

IIRC the Tanaka and KJW mags were interchangeable. Don't know about the G&G ones, sorry, but is it certain the longer arms are for the M700 platform? as I know there was a very similar, just slightly longer mag for the K98.

( I learnt this buy buying one by mistake of course! 🙂)

yeah, the longer ones are the ones that fit the m700 mags. The shorter ones both don't fit well (so the striker wouldn't hit the button much if at all), and also the shorter ones don't fit the c-clip that holds the spring that makes sure the knocker resets. All in all, the short ones suck.

I really do think it's an instance where they cloned, then changed stuff, since the longer, older ones fit flawlessly in my m700 mags, and the old conventional m700 wisdom was that you swapped out the plunger and the gas outlet spring with the G&G ones in the stock KJW 10rd mags because otherwise they were absolute shite. The short ones, which very much look like a newer product with how the packaging is, don't fit at all; both items have the same item ID (they're both listed as G-07-077), and the pictures on fire-support are of the older design (which threw me off when I received the short ones instead), so it's the same product, but different iterations / designs I think.

I can’t comment on the G&G ones, but the Action Army knock arms work on the old Tanaka mags perfectly well if you did decide to “upgrade” them (I’ve installed 2 on my Tanaka long mags).

That's really good to know. I might pick a few up in that case for the rest of my mags (would be nice to get all 6 short mags to a more usable state. Got 4 there at the moment)
