Airsoft Experience

Daym that’s a rough story.

Landmarc are alright but not worth dealing with as a landlord.

A lot lot has to do with the fact that the contract renews this year/2020.

many of us would probably enjoy some kind of [...] battlesim version.

Assuming that you mean a game of airsoft played out like that scene, why would we enjoy getting hosed down en masse while slogging uphill towards guns firing from cover?

We can get that any time we like by playing very badly at most sites.

Once again I'm struggling to visualise what scenario you are imagining that would make it a more enjoyable experience for participants.

I’m more interested in what everyone else is thinking, I put a setting out there as an example.

I'm all for trying something new, but what exactly is it that you're proposing with a "battlesim"?

Honestly, I'm not clear on what that means, in practice.

We've only got the locations that we've got.  I mean, unless you've actually got a private beach to hand, how do you simulate a beachhead?

Playing a specific historical or theatrical scenario on a general skirmish site might be a giggle, but balance would be a sod.  It might be do-able with plenty of player-marshals guiding it along, but then if folk aren't taking hits / being told not to take hits (to keep it moving), or deliberately spraying-and-praying to miss, then there are going to be grumbles from folk who want to play fair rather than do Live Action Roleplaying.

Then we've got the problem that all airsoft guns are basically the same.  A Firehawk DSG with a box magazine is for all intents and purposes as good as a support gun as any other, so you can't really have "machine gun nests" or anything similarly skewed.

That said, you can get MG-42 or M60 BB firearms[*]that shoot close to 2J which you could bunker up to give a real range advantage to skew play.  But how enjoyable would that be for folk getting rinsed from outside their own effective range? Simulation, yes; fun, maybe not so much.

Again, if you'd actually flesh out one of these suggestions, we might turn up something interesting.  Just tossing out words like "battlesim" rather leaves us guessing at what you might be proposing.

[*]These are legally speaking not airsoft guns.

no offence Seth, but this is like all your other posts, you keep dangling a carrot in front of us, essentially hinting at a new airsoft experience etc, & picking our brains for advice & opinions, but nothing solid or proven with your intent ?, you talk the talk but when you gonna walk the walk, so to speak ?

A ‘battlesim’ could on a basic basis be a themed scenario game (which can relate to reality, be based on a film/show/book ... potentially subject to copyright, or be an original idea by the organizers)

Our original scenario event was based on reality (Takhur Ghar, aka the battle of Roberts Ridge), we scripted the theme and missions, then let the players take it on from that

We followed TG1 with sequels and prequels becoming increasingly random or dropping back to a bit of reality:

From a genuine battle in Afghanistan, to bringing in Columbian drug dealers and Somali pirates, the in etc into the afghan village (the Colombians as a faction based on a twist by players in the previous game and the Somalis from an idea we put in the ring - just in time for the Somalis to diversify into areas we were making up

We slightly went back to reality on a TG game themed around Tora Bora, but the latter half of the game had me playing zombie bin laden

We ended when we had produced 5 takhur ghar games.

We’ve rewritten the original Falklands history to make an alternate history anniversary falklands game (and I’ve also played a Falklands game based on the true version)

The rest of our scenarios have probably been split 50/50 as film/book based and completely unique

We have run competition based games, such as pistol challenge, the battle royale series to end up with a winning team or individual

We have also run ‘experience’ based events, where it’s not a game but things such as teaching skills and then using them

A more closer ‘battle sim’ would be a re-enactment rather than a game

All of the above exist, and there are people

who run them and participate  - horses for courses, and different people enjoy different things

I like gamedays with a theme or ‘script’ now and again only time I can be a bit uneasy if there based on real recent events , Afghan/Iraq/Falklands/etc things that are still quite vivid in peoples minds for what ever reason , but the one caveat to this is gamedays based around a film of the event , BHD/etc .

I wouldn't read so much into it, we're just chatting. All I do is try to ask questions that a bit outside the norm, who wants to see another "what are good upgrades" thread?

It would be a little different if you could propose something for a change rather than just using us for market research.

I'm all for something different but just being used as a free resource gets a little old...

Indeed.  Seth, I would be genuinely interested in seeing the sales pitch for whatever is going on in your head.

I'm not sure what I can propose here, but I can restrict my threads from general questions for the sake of conversation to ones I personally need/want an answer to.

Separate from the how, what I desire (and no one is obligated to come along) is... simply put I feel like a skirmish is just the same as playing Call of Duty and that game gives me a headache.

Ok, so battlesims/milsims would be more down my street, fine, but we all know the main difference between them and a skirmish is the attitude of the players and the mindset that they bring.

I wish to think about ammo count, specific missions that the squad I'm in has to achieve, how I can make a half decent plan that might involve other squads.

I'm not saying how it can be done, I'm stating that it would be a nice option to have in the grand scheme of Airsoft.

I've recently started watching SEAL Team, long overdue, the planning that goes into each mission is interesting, that doesn't translate directly over to airsoft and most of the time you can't get a group together to practice anything and even then it will all fall apart but I want the opportunity to fail.

But we all play for different reasons and I'm sure there will be many who just want to blast away, that's fine, I'll be right there with you.

I'd like to jump back to ammo count, I remember watching a video about a USMC fireteam leader and he said they have to consider if they have enough ammo before they engage a target. That is not a consideration in a skirmish, but anything that makes a player stop and think 2/3 steps ahead is a good thing.

I think all the profit in Airsoft is taken East and health/exercise is a key missing component, soon I think we might start to see the Athlete Airsofter.

Alphonse and Will regularly post updates on their visits to the gym, that must be getting a reaction of sorts, I'm going to check what kind of comments are being left.

Airsoft is far bigger than what we think, it's just very dispersed, Graham over to Airsoft Nation is doing great work with the App, you can check out an interview with him on the Chairsofter podcast. But we have a very long way to go, we're at the pong stage in gaming, there are so many innovations that we aren't struggling for new ideas. Then when we have exhausted that, AR, when it finally works well outdoors, will probably overtake all of that.

To sum up, I'm not talking about what I want to do, but what I want as a player.

@Rogerborg the sales pitch, for an investor or player?

Investor - niche market, hidden potential in x, y and z.

Player - live your fantasy: medic, sas, sniper, whatever

Ok, so you want to "alter" the mindset of some/many players, good luck with that lol, I appreciate your points but feel you've got an uphill battle to achieve it, prob be easier to herd cats ?

What about your proposed "m25/east London site in 2019" ?, care to share any nuggets with us ?, fine if you don't want to divulge precise location yet but what about size/features/layout etc ?

True, I heard about the method that battlefield used, you could say "fake teamwork", so people give out medic bags, etc, because it gives them points not because it helps me.

16 Ha initially, outdoor CQB site, on a trial basis.

Then we can discuss the option to expand to 900-1000 Ha.

The CQB site is similar to paintball in that you have a square field with obstacles inside the zone, however, that's a bit dead, so we will have multiple connected zones that can be controlled by having a majority of players over a set period of time or capturing/holding an objective within the zone.

Each zone has multiple entrances which are the spawn points, you can only enter a spawn point into a zone that your team controls unless you have none, then the game would be balanced.

Marshals will be in-game and on platforms above each zone which should make it very easy to see hits (I hope).

Each player is given a wireless PTT connected to our custom smartphone, showing where they are, squad/teammates and the game status. All you need to bring is a 3.5mm headset (z-Tac)/earphones or buy one (earphones) for like 99p, they're dead cheap.

Each zone, depending on our budget will be themed, jungle, snow, etc.

Ugh exercise and airsoft? "Athlete airsofter" sounds like a total chode. Theres enough posing wankers in trackies at the gym being all dude-bro and "muh gainz" and discussing utter boring drivel like the latest whey protein, they can stay there I dont want them at my airsoft days.

Sounds like you just want mil-sim, go play that.

Have you actually played Airsoft?
