Spring M rating in relation to bolt action rifles
Reef replied to Reef's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Thanks, I'm happy to do this in stages. I'll get a M130 see what I get, then maybe upgrade the barrel if I think it needs it. -

I think I'd like to see what 1.5-1.8j feels like. -
Spring M rating in relation to bolt action rifles

Thanks for the quick replys guys. Its a TM G-spec with the following upgrades. Action Army Hop up unit Maple leaf 60 degree, Omega Nub Action Army trigger unit, piston, spring guide AirsoftPro M110 spring in original cylinder. @Hudson Glad to hear you think this sounds about right for a M110 spring, it is the original 303mm barrel, it has been suggested I upgrade to a better barrel and is on the list of things to do. @Colin Allen honestly, I don't know LOL. Putting the stats into a online power converter gave me these numbers. @Impulse Thank you for taking the time to write the detailed responses, It's really appreciated. Although, the more you explain the more I realise I have no idea what I'm doing... Do you have any advice on a spring taking the above into account, standard barrel, .30 BB's? I'm thinking an Action Army M130 or M150, but as I've proven, I know nothing... Oh, I am aware I was warned not to start fiddling at its a black hole, but honestly I'm quite enjoying learning about this! -
I understand that the spring M rating refers to meters per second, firing .20 BB's in an AEG rifle. So I worked out using Code Red's converter that M110 spring should give you roughly 360fps and 1.2j? I have a M110 spring in the bolt rifle and when Chrono'd the weekend only got 1.2j with .30 BB's. I was expecting around 1.8j with this spring. Does the M rating only refer to AEG's or all Airsoft weapons? Have I screwed up my rifle or am I missing something? Thanks

Rather than starting a new thread I thought I’d ask the question here. M110 spring + 0.30 BB is giving me 1.2j What do the experts think a 130 or 150 spring would give me roughly?

On Sunday I had my first game at Worthing Airsoft. I was joined by my Son and a friend who has just started airsoft. I won’t go into detail as Impulse has covered it well @Impulsei was admiring the wooden Kar98, if I’d realised it was you I would have come over and said hi. What a great site with a real community feel. I’m not sure who was having more fun, us or the Marshalls. The car park in pretty much in the safe zone so we opted to set up our base in my van. This meant we didn’t have to carry gear about, very different to Apocalypse 😂. Really enjoyed the games, a mixture of classic games and theme based ones kept it interesting. I was in a bush right next to can flip incident impulse mentioned above and have never laughed so much during a game. The site is a good mix of dense scrub which is great for creeping around with a pistol, and standard Sussex woodland. Interesting structures well laid out, not over the top like some sites. The skeleton in the chapel made me jump and got a few rounds! The burger was great, although it would have been nice to have chocolate/snacks available to buy, free tea and coffee though so can’t complain. My SA80 performed really well but my VSR10 was adequate, nowhere near the joule I was expecting which meant the gusty wind made long shots difficult. I think this will be my regular site now and look forward to being more active in the actual game play once I familiarise myself with the site layout.

There’s a Bridle Path running next to the site which is now part of my cycling route so I can keep an eye on the place. As of last weekend nothings changed up there, looks exactly the same. Only thing I’ve noticed a quite a number of the trees have been marked up for what looks like felling. I’m really hoping it starts up again….

I’ve just done some upgrades on my VSR-10 and feel pretty chuffed with myself so thought I’d share. when I bought the rifle I added straight away, Action Army Hop up unit Maple leaf 60 degree Omega Nub Today I’ve added, Action Army trigger unit, piston, spring guide AirsoftPro M110 spring It was a bit more involved than I thought, getting the anti-tamper pin out of the cylinder was pretty intense. Really didn’t want to bugger it up and have to buy a new one. Drilled it out, with a mixture of pillar drill and Dremel. I’ve done some tests in the garden at 30m with .30 and it feels really nice, adjusted the hop up and zeroed the scope as best I can. Looking forward to the next game in a few weeks. I don’t have a Crono but think it could be around 1.8j, does that sound about right? I might look at a different spring but will see how I get on. Only downside is it’s lost that loverly quiet pop sound that the standard VSR has, at least my son’s one still has that sound!

With Dogtag closing and me being not that fussed with Driverswood, I thought I’d try Apocalypse Kent. After the ‘glowing’ reviews from here I went with low expectations.. Place was easy to find and well signposted. Arrived at 8:30 to be greeted at the gate by a Marshall who guided me to a parking spot. I grabbed my gear and prepared myself for the climb up to the safe zone. Honestly wasn’t that bad but in the wet it could prove interesting… Check in was easy although a sign said ‘gun bags mandatory’, this isn’t mentioned on the website and I didn’t have one. I didn’t say anything a nether did the Marshalls, I did have a sock in my bag if needed. Safe area was well built and clean, had a nice vibe about it and better feel than Driverswood. Shop well stocked and good bacon rolls. Toilets, well they do their best but still not great. Better than the portapotties at Dogtag… Couldn’t fault Crono, guys were talkative and helpful. Even let me have a go on his TAC-41. Safely brief was good, they explained the medic rule which was new to me but made sense. They said they had 100 booked in, I counted 80+ during the briefing. First game was move the ‘Bomb’ across the site and into a structure. Each team (red/blue) was split into two squads so there were four groups starting in different places. This was much more complex than the games I’m used too, couple this with the medic rule and the huge site with many structures, I felt like a total noob! Soon got into the swing with my L85 but having to watch out for players coming from different directions meant many opportunities for friendly fire. I did enjoy the medic rule, to my untrained eye the rules were followed and hit taking was on a par with other sites I’ve visited. At one point I could hear the Marshalls radio and they were actively checking people. They game went on for a good two hours which again was a new thing for me, I’m used to shorter skirmishes. Glad I took all my mags. After lunch (cracking cheese burger) was a domination game of three structures, I switched to my 1j sniper rifle and had a blast, this was another long game and the slower pace with the bolt rifle let me catch my breath. Even so I didn’t play the third game as I was really tired. Shame it was a CQB game I think. I would definitely go again, I only got to see a small part of the site and would like to see the village.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to this now LOL 😆

I've heard this from a few people now, thanks for confirming. Is it far? so could i leave some stuff in the car and get it later if i want to use another weapon in the afternoon?

Heading over to Apocalypse Airsoft in Kent on Sunday for the first time. Any advice about the site or anything I should know?
-
I thought this was the case, thanks for confirming. I’ll wait for the parts to become available.

Hello, Does anyone have any experience of installing and using one? I’ve been studying the website and downloaded the manual but am still not sure if I understand how it works. Does it replace your current Mosfet or connect in series between the mosfet and battery via the deans? From the app could you get your gun to fire in just semi only regardless of the position of the selector switch? My ICS L85 doesn’t work in semi and I’m wondering if this will allow me to control it electronically and bypass the mechanical issue. thanks
-
Oh no, this was on my list of sites to try, what's wrong with it?
-
@Impulse Thanks for the info. My AEG is only full auto at the moment so I don't know if that will effect things. In semi-auto games or areas I use my pistol. My bolt rifle is 1j so should be ok. @The_Lord_PonchoYes, the times I've been its always been well attended. I know Dogtag is a small part of a larger concern with Archery, axe throwing and other type activities, there's also the paintball and laser tag areas. Even if the airsoft is going well it could be affected by business in the other areas. Honestly don't know.

FYI, Dogtag in Horsham/Crawley has closed for the foreseeable future. I did go to Driverwood once but it didn't really work for me, can't put my finger on why.... I'll give it another go but also looking forward to trying Worthing Airsoft next weekend, any tips for Worthing? Is Invicta's woodland site in Kent worth the trip? Its about 1h from me.

Incase you're interested in what I did.... I bought another TM VSR 10, but in OD this time. I did handle the other snipers, TAC-41, SSG's, they were nice but felt like 'too much' of a gun for what I need, if you see what I mean. The clean line and simplicity of the VSR is a real attraction to me. I've bought the parts to upgrade to the same spec as my other VSR, this will be fine for now until I feel the need to go further. Thanks for all the input and DM's guys, its really appreciated. The scope is just one I had lying about. its a x50 and too big in my view. I'll keep an eye out for a nice x40 mildot.
-
I have what Rogerborg has an image of above. use a sniper with standard height sight and no issues. Face covering is such a personal choice, I rarely see two set ups the same.
-
Well that’s a glowing review for the TAC-41. I’ve got a lot to think about, thanks again.
-
Thanks guys. I’ll have a look at the TAC-41 this weekend at my local shop. Thank you impulse for the detailed comparison.
-
Ohhh, maybe You can fit M42 silencers on a TAC-41....
-
I have already bought one about 9 months ago and am thinking of getting another. When I got it, I did some small upgrades (thanks to you guys) that improved the range and accuracy, but kept the stock spring so my son could cock it. What's happened now is that both my son and daughter love using it so I don't get a look in! I also really enjoy using it and as it's on the 1J limit we don't have a minimum engagement distance, this means I don't have to worry about my kids accidently shooting someone at close range. So, with this in mind I'm thinking or buying another one and upgrading to a higher specification, maybe 2J. This would be MY rifle! I'm struggling a bit with spending £230 in a rifle and then spending £200+ on upgrading by replacing the new parts. I'm happy to invest and do the work but don't want to throw money away. Question is, should I be looking at a cheaper platform than the TM to start with if I'm going to end up throwing a load of parts away? I love the look of the VSR10 G spec with the silencer, its a really nice looking weapon!.....

Welcome! I’m just over a year into your story. My daughter now plays sometimes as well as my son and I, so I’m at x3 on all costs. Step one, get the UKARA defence, as for rifle, get what you like the look of. Guarantee you will have at least 3 or 4 within a year 🤣 The Specna Arms are good value and I can testify to them being good starter weapons.

Thanks for clarifying guys. i'll ask my site next time I go but good to hear it should be ok.
