Load-Out / Loadout Picture topic
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Nutster's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Posey action shot of me camping in a hollow defending the bridge at our site - managed a decent kill streak before the enemy finally picked me off and sent me back to respawn. Eezer G -
Well, been a while since I've done this review, and with plenty of skirmishing and several thousand rounds through it I thought I'd update the review. Firstly, I've added a 200mm CYMA suppressor which changes the "crack" of the pellet leaving the barrel to a dull "thud" and looks a bit more space-marine-beefcake, along with a basic RDS and faux-PEQ (actually just a very bright LED lamp). Also I've used my favourite Halfords OD paint and lacquer for a distinct two-tone OD and black scheme which matches my loadout and added some markings with white permanent marker. I'm currently using 380rnd Battleaxe hicaps with a useful capacity check window which, along with most other mags, work a treat following a mag well mod - more on that later. What's with the "league" markings? A nod to my favourite computer game back in the day, Colony Wars: Vengeance and the logo of one of the factions in the game, the League Of Free Worlds, which I also have on my brain bucket and tac vest; tragically sad and geeky according to Mrs. Goode. I'm not going to argue. Secondly, the mag well mod; the UAR is notoriously picky due to an awkwardly-designed magwell, the one flaw in am otherwise excellent design IMO. I dremelled away the pointless spring-catch at the top of the mag well which pushed many mags out and caused them to fail to feed and added a strip of velcro at the rear guide to improve the mag fit. Have tried various mid and hi cap designs and all fit and feed perfectly well now. I'd say this is a must if you are going to have any hope of using STANAG mags other than the ludicrously expensive and hard to find U-Mags supplied with the gun. So, how has it held up? Mostly rather well, and it remains my firm favourite gun. Internally it is completely standard and the supplied hop works well with good range and consistently shot at 1J (I use 0.25g Bios); I reckon I've put around 6-7000 rounds through it so far. Recently however (past month) a slight air leak has developed around the hop resulting in a drop to 0.85J, a slight improvement was made using some grease however I will look to sort properly using some tape (failing that a new hop rubber which wont cost much at all). The internals otherwise seem robust enough and overall its a good all-rounder as any airsoft rifle should be. I use a VP Racing 1600mAh NiMH battery which gives a ROF of around 15rps which is perfectly adequate and is enough to last for a day's skirmish. Battery space in the butt is limited however so it won't take a bigger battery and LiPos may be an issue for that reason. It's a reasonably light gun so not too taxing to lug around all day, I've come to really appreciate the ergonomic features such as the ample rail space, comfortable shooting position, big trigger guard, ambidextrous controls (handy for shooting off-hand) and the rearward weight balance which I like a lot. Its also pretty short so handy to transport and wield around the woods or indoors. The fact it uses M4 magazines is a boon too, however the mod above is essential to avoid any aggro. Construction-wise is mixed; it's well enough put together, the internals seem solid enough however the external plastic isn't the best and a chip/crack has developed at the butt. That said its survived various skirmishes, collisions with trees and vegetation and being slung roughly in my motorcycle rucksack when being transported to and from skirmishes so it's holding up enough, however the cheap feel to the external plastics is a reminder that it is a budget gun so probably best not to fling it about. The one thing that us very positive is its very easy to take apart and put back together again - useful for maintenance. The gearbox also has a quick change design for the spring, another highly practical and useful feature, one of the many of this gun. In short, it's a very easy design to live with, packed full of many useful, practical features that work well in practice and it's a good-performing gun. Aside from the slightly cheap plastic used and the daft design of the mag well I'd say it's perfect for anyone looking for a very practical, cost effective rifle that is a good all rounder and that isn't an M4 yet can take the M4 mags your mates (or your other guns) use. It's something a bit different and definitely scratches that sci fi itch if you have it. Couple of posey action shots for reference. My advice - highly recommended. Ebeneezer G

can anyone recommend a good DMR with an FPS of 350?
Ebeneezer Goode replied to xollob's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Couple of things. DMR and Sniper are quite different roles. With a sniper rifle you'll be well in excess of 1J so MED will apply. DMRs also tend to be more mobile, so it depends on what style of play you want. Sitting hiding picking off them bogeys at range or getting in about the action... Secondly, forget FPS. You need to look at the energy instead. All dependant on what weight you'll be running. If you are sniping or DMRing you won't be using 0.2s, which I suspect is where you've gamed your "350" number from. Marksmen will be running heavyweight pellets, 0.3g minimum, prob more like 0.4. So for that you're looking less at FPS and more at what you're muzzle energy is to stay legal. Snipers will be over 2J typically so MED always applies. Even with a DMR platform locked to Semi your site will dictate what the maximum energy is. Most AEGs that have a decent barrel length and well matched cylinder volume plus good hop will make a decent DMR. Heck my 150 quid UAR would do the job, there's folks out there who have made DMR builds out of them. Hope this helps. Eeezer Goode -
Maple leaf hop unit worth it for we Glock?
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Schnitz's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Pistols are short-ranged but that does seem excessively low. Have you Chrono'd it? Inspect the hop in case its loose or torn before you start lobbing £££ at it. -

Specna Arms Daniel Defense MK18 advice
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Bradders13754's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Wouldn't get too hung up on "upgrades". Barring a new hop most "upgrades" don't improve performance much and end up causing faults. Also, metal is overrated, most metal used in airsift guns is crap. Plastic weighs less, your arms will thank you. G&G overpriced these days IMO. Best getting something cheap and proven like a sub-£200 CYMA, stick 0.25s or 0.28s in it and go and have fun. -

Well I'm not one for cheating (nor getting accused of) so I'll happily be calling my hits... and my shield will remain fully discharged for the day 😁 Looking forward to acquiring some authentic battle damage, being the natural beeb magnet/plastic fodder that I am. -

Eezer's Mk1 Space Marine loadout ready for its inaugural outing this Sunday. Forget Master Chief... Disaster Chief is about to hit the skirmish field. One of those kit-on-bed shots as tried selfie which was shit. Eezer G -
A couple of shots of the USP 9 that I got recently and one with the UAR in tow - think they complement each other well aesthetically, nice sci fi ish vibe and something a bit different. Rather enjoying this pistol shooting it in the garden and skirmishing it this Sunday. Will probably paint the slide in Halfords OD like all my others...

Err... possibly. There are so many brands out there and many seem to be made in the same factory and I did hear that they were CYMAs, although I have no idea. LT gets a bad rap online (via Yanks and Reddit) due to some well-publicised historical issues however seems to have improved a lot over the past 2-3 years. Mine certainly has been excellent, I did have a consistency issue early on that seemed to disappear, possibly due to it being new. However it's a solid enough gun and shoots very well especially on .25s.

After a fair bit of humming, hawwing and faffing I ordered the above at the weekend. As per my thread last week I was originally after a 1911 or Desert Eagle but instead went for something that looks a wee bit sci fi and wedgey, ergonomic and has a decent gas/ammo capacity, and the USP seemed to fit all of the above rather well. Although, some of the reviews online are a bit patchy. And 9mm USP mags are, er, rare, it seems. Have I goofed and ordered a pile of complete and utter keech? Well, time will tell I suppose. Everyone online seems to slate Lancer Tactical and the APS UAR and yet I have both and love them. So here goes for my first plunge into the world of GBB pistols. Also ordered some silicone spray and gas and have been swotting up on GBB maintenance so I don't feck it up. Right, the questions. Firstly, did I make a wise choice? Or have I just done the airsoft equivalent of that bit in Indiana Jones when the guy drinks from the wrong cup? And secondly, any general helpful tips for maintaining my new toy, aside from keeping o-rings and nozzles lubed? Should I keep a bit of pressure in the mag or fully discharge it for storage? Ta muchly as always. Eezer G

Lancer Tactical do a couple of M4s with the old style handguards. I have one (M933). I prefer the look of them myself. Specna do a model (B06 IIRC) based on the M16A2 with that handguard. Was on my want list for a while.

I find a cardboard box with the target taped/pinned to it works well at catching BBs. Stops our cats trying to eat them 🙄 Would echo everything Rogerborg has suggested. And above all, have fun!

Sights: when to bother, when to not
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Floperator's topic in General Discussion
I never use sights, a scope looks cool but learned very early on that a) I can see where my shots are going anyway, so no need, b) my face pro gets in the way and c) it's additional weight. I just point n shoot now, and I'm not half bad at that. -
Your choice of BB will often show on whether your site insults on Bio or not. My site mandates Bio as its within Forestry land. Although they do take literally years to degrade. .25 is generally a good all rounder but depends on the play style (outdoor/indoor) and the gun. If you're plinking in the back garden though may as well save cash and just use .2s, keep the heavier stuff for skirmishes. (Said like a true canny Scotsman)

At the risk of going against the grain here I'd say that there are plenty decent beginner AEGs for around the £100 mark and absolutely go for it. Anything by CYMA or JG is a safe bet and my Lancer 933 was about £100; my first gun and quite frankly I still love it. Its reliable, decently put together and happily lobs .25s in the woods I skirmish in. Nice and lightweight too and accepts most mags without fuss. The Core Specnas are much of a muchness and probably worth a punt too. I hear lots of put downs regarding Lancer online but I have to say mine has been perfectly good. There again, same with my UAR; very marmite but I've had no bother with that either. I echo above regarding ammo choice, using 25s or 28s is one of the most effective (and cheapest) upgrades you can make. Good luck with your choice. Eezer G

Gas Pistols... where to start.
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Ebeneezer Goode's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
As always here, thanks chaps n chapesses for the wealth of info, advice, opinions and experiences. Much to think about. Why a 1911 or DE? Pure vanity I guess. My two AEGs are fairly budget models and are very practical and sensible and I guess I fancied something rather more "characterful" (read: completely impractical and full of flaws ). And of the multitude of pistols out there, these are the two I love the look of. The 1911 as its what I've always regarded since a kid as "the" classic pistol, and Deagles are just Deagles... Big berthas that often feature in sci fi settings. Did try a GBB Glock once years ago which was lovely, dont know what make it was, but I just don't get the look. Same with HiCapas. Just my taste.
