  1. Sometimes it impractical for players to keep their hands up in the air if terrain is uneven and their hand is needed to support them safely crossing the field back to spawn so if loads started doing this honest dead players would be the only ones done over.

  2. The times I've gone with my mates, I literally only saw them in the safe zone, as soon as the game starts I end up with other players either accidentally ending up in a squad with someone else or just because I've been chatting to people about their equipment. I'm going on my own this weekend to a totally new site myself.

Not really, I'm mostly cribbing from Wikipedia and here:

The hand-guard is the most obvious thing, and is A1.  I did hesitate to even point it out, but it's genuinely a poor show by PatrolBase (or anyone else) to claim that it's an A1 receiver, which it clearly isn't.

Hmm, are there any actual A1s?

The CYMA "A1" receiver is closer, but still has an A2 stock, grip, birdcage and slip ring. https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/cyma-cm-009a1-m16a1-assault-rifle

G&P looks pretty good, but at a much higher cost: https://gpairsoft-uk.com/shop/en/50019-gp-airsoft-m16a1-aeg-gp-gp290.html

They even do a recoil version of the very early pattern with no forward assist: https://www.gunmart.net/gun-reviews/airsoft-guns/bb-guns/gp-m16a1-recoil

The thing is, the BBs won't care, and neither will anyone else except stitch-counters.

Yeah fair point, either way in my eyes I got an M16 so I'm happy, luckily I haven't met any stitch counters at the games I've gone to yet 😄

Trying to think now though if I went to a Vietnam era film-sim would people kick off 😄

    The hand guard looks A1.

A ruler-on-the-screen says that the stock looks more A2 length than A1 and the butt stock looks like it's fully textured like A2, but I could be wrong on those.

Can't see if the flash hider has a hole on the bottom (A1) or no hole (A2).

The receiver is A2: the rear sight has an elevation adjuster, the forward assist is round rather than teardrop, there's a shell deflector behind the ejection post, and the slip ring is tapered rather than parallel. I can't see if there's a finger groove on the grip, but I'm guessing that there is.

    [UPDATE] Oh, this one?  https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/golden-eagle-m16a1-super-enhanced-aeg

Yup, butt, stock, grip and flash hider are all A2. The only A1 thing that I can see on there is the hand guard.  "A1 style receiver. Perfect for re-enactment [and] mil-sim", the cheeky buggers.

Now, I'm sure someone will out-nerd me (front sight post profile?). ;)

Yeah that one (not off that site though), won’t lie I’m quite impressed at your knowledge of the gun to be honest, I feel like I’ve learned a bit, so thank you 😁

The most fun I've had in woodland was at a "filmsim", cartel vs Feds.  Sure, camo works a bit better than Hawaiian shirts, but not that much better.

Very decent of them, good to hear a retailer being helpful like that.

Yeah they have quite a few sites around Wales to be fair, I traveled almost 2 hours to get to their shop, the guy working the shop that day was the marshal in the game I was going to the following day so he had it painted and down at the site ready for me to use the next day, quality service from them.

No unit badges (except of course for fictional ones, airsoft team badges etc), because:

    - If you didn’t earn them, you shouldn’t wear them because you’re effectively identifying as serving or ex military personnel from certain deployments when you’re not (and a fair few servicemen and women enjoy a day of airsoft)

    - If you did earn them, you shouldn’t wear them because you’re effectively identifying as military or ex military personnel outside of duties which especially since the Lee Rigby case has been a no no.

You’d be hard pressed to find someone get angry at you for wearing a boonie hat with PRICE written on the back with an SAS insignia. Judgement will be passed on your facial hair though. As with all things, consideration is at the heart of it all.

With that out the way, I’d probably start off by saying MTP and Multicam are poorly suited to the woodland of the U.K. Most effective camo choices here are Flecktarn, Kryptek Mandrake and Tiger Stripe.

There is definitely a stigma around “tracksuit and hoodie” players, since that’s what’s worn by most players who are just on a teenagers day out birthday party, rather than being regular airsoft players, as the teens on a day out are generally the most frequent offenders for cheating and poor sportsmanship, so that kind of attire has gained an association with a bad player.

My first airsoft clothing was black cargo trousers and a dark green t shirt from Matalan and it served me just fine - lotsa pockets on the trousers for empty and spare mags, and not blindingly obvious upper body colour.

And remember kids, camouflage is pointless when you have a bright orange M4, so don’t fuss too much and just enjoy the game.

Im on my second game now with a two tone gun (hence why I'm holding off until my third game to get my outfits sorted) to my first couple of games I've worn cheap green camo tracksuit bottoms, navy blue long sleeved shirt and a dark grey track jacket, if anything I lowkey looked like I should have been in a cartel or something 😄

The shop I've bought the gun off put the two tone on my gun and because their linked to the site I go to said that once I've played my third game there they'll strip the two tone off for me. Thats when I'll start my US Army Vietnam era outfit because it'll just look silly with a two tone M16.

  7. Just had a look myself, not bad pricing at all, does seems to be quite a few spelling mistakes on the websites, I'd be very cautious, bearing in mind the camo uniforms are 23 pound for shirt and trousers, seems a little too good to be true. It could be a completely legit site but the things mentioned by myself would make me wary of purchasing off there.

Fire Support have one or two.

I never had any bother with my Ares one, shot nicely enough.  The KA one is due a rerelease and VFC are doing a GBBR FAL soon.

I may hold fire and see what’s going on with the rerelease, then make a decision.

Cheers for the links guys though, turns out there’s more on the market than I first thought 😂

the owner's a bit of a retard, knows fuck all about mechanical stuff, but his shop is literally filled with rare guns.

Bought a couple of things from him, but went directly to the shop as it's only 40 minutes away from me.

    Ares. That's all there's to know :P

In fairness that seems to be the cheapest one around as well (not that I want to specifically cheap out but if a deals there I’m taking it).

I wasn’t aware that it’s rare in airsoft form, trust me to be like “oh that L1A1 would be nice to have” 😂

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind if you did wear Regt Insignia or what have you if your just trying to be true to a specific era/Unit/Conflict.

Start spinning dits about your heroics with the SLR on Mt Tumbledown and you'll likely upset a few folk, but I don't/wouldn't have any issue with anyone wearing insignia if they've researched and understood what it is there wearing and why.

I know some people don't mind it but obviously it would upset some people therefore Im probably going to stay away from specific regiments/units insiginias/patches/berets etc just to be inclusive and trouble free. I'd never want to say I've done/earned X when I haven't either, people who do that are totally disrespectful to the people involved.

There you go, good luck getting started! 😁👍

Make sure to put some pics up! 😜

Then if you do a Falklands Loadout, you have to put that up as well! 😎👍

    💷GAMBLE💷

Cheers bud, i'll make sure to pop up some photos when I get around to it, probably take me a while but if anything it will stop me spending money on two tone guns before I get my UKARA defence sorted 😁

If you are into historical airsoft, especially Vietnam and Cold War, check out the Gunman Airsoft events on Facebook.

As serving military I can only echo what others have said, don't wear patches or berets you haven't earned. Other than that knock yourself out.

I would invest in good boots and good eye protection first though.......

I'll have to take a look at that page, stuff like that does interest me.

Yeah I think im going to actively avoid berets and patches, last thing I want to do is come across as disrespectful to anyone involved.

Currently I'm using a set of steel toe cap safety boots with a set of goggles and a lower face mesh mask just to start me off with.

Fair enough, if that’s what you want, look into it! 👍

I’ve seen people dressed up as GI Vietnam soldiers (not a lot!), haven’t seen a Falklands one (Maybe the early DPM camo?)! 🤔
    Just watch your wallet! 💷😜

Vietnam I think i'm going to start off with, get me into the swing of things, then if I enjoy that start on a Falklands Era one.

as with the others, bdu and kit is pretty much fair game for whatever takes your fancy, but folk can take exception if you start wearing patches/insignia for specific units (particularly ones that are still active).

tbh anything that breaks up the sea of multicam is fine by me.

Leaky boots and one square of waxy toilet paper?

It'll all come down to the players at your local site, but I can't see anyone being bothered if you turn up in near 40 year old gear.  Consider that the Falklands war was closer to WW2 than today.

I'd be a bit disappointed to see everyone at a site wearing camo, to be honest.

Yeah that what I noticed, loads in multicam, few snipers in full ghillies which looked good. Got to give it to this one guy, turned up in full WW1 gear, gun as well, used a gasmask as facepro (think it was an airsoft designed fake made for facepro) had a whistle to sound off when we were playing attack/defend, even put his steel pot helmet on his bayonet and raised his gun to try and work out enemy postions, had a lot of repect for him.

For your first BDU (Battle Dress Uniform), get what you want, depending on your budget? 🤔💷

I personally have a small collection of BDU camos! 😜👍
Hope this helps and what did you have in mind? 🤔

I was thinking of going for a Vietnam war era US soldier outfit, also considered a British Falklands era outfit but felt that would have been more of a no-no than the Vietnam era outfit due to the amount of ex British service members who use airsofts sites.

You can wear what you want, just don't be tempted to wear insignia or awards etc. Just the Clothing is fine. If the clothing has integrated name tags then that is usually fine as well. I run French Foreign legion kit, I can wear a beret no problem, but just not the badge that goes on it.

Yeah I understand  you,  I'd never claim to be someone I'm not if you get what I mean.

  14. Went to my first Skirmish last weekend, thoroughly enjoyed myself. I turned up in tracksuit bottoms and a long blue t shirt, while almost everyone else there was camouflaged in a way. So I don't stick out like a sore thumb next time I go I'd like to invest in a uniform of some sort. What I want to know though, is it okay to recreate the outfits of soldiers from certain wars/times/countries etc or is that frowned upon? I don't really want to annoy or offend people, just want peoples opinions so I can make the morally correct decision.

I've played Bunker Airsoft in Bargoed before, run by a lovely bloke called Paul.

They've got two sites now actually, Bunker which is the woodland site (which, like some kind of optical illusion is always uphill! 😄 ) and Bunker CQB which is a cool looking place in an old warehouse, but I've not played there.

Airsoft in an old warehouse sounds amazing I won't lie, glad you've pointed that one out, I looked at Bunker but I wasn't aware they had the CQB site as well. Think I'm giving one in Ammanford a go this weekend but I'll definitely look further afield for the future.

  16. Hi,

Lockdown has kind of inspired me to want to get out and do more once it ends and places start to reopen, Airsoft is the main one. Any Welsh players here have any recommendations for shops and sites to play at and your experiences with said places?

  17. This may sound a really silly question but I’ve bought a crane battery pack for an AEG and it comes with a really tightly wrapped clear shrink wrap layer around each battery, so I take these off before using or do I leave them on? Silly question I know but after googling for a bit I haven’t found a straight answer.
