  • Absolutely blown away by the standard of service from X-Fire. The process for ordering is certainly a bit odd, but you can't argue with ordering something from Japan and having it in your hands 5 days later. Been struggling to find somewhere with a good stock of PDI barrels for a while, suffice to say should I ever need any more that's where I'll be going.

Aye, the furthest afield I've ordered things before picking these up was from the EU so the whole process is entirely new to me. I'd assumed/expected additional fees somewhere throughout the process, meaning the final 'all in' price would land inline with what I'd have paid in the UK (if anywhere ever had any stock)... so I guess I lucked out there eh?

X-Fire are fantastic. I tend to default into a PDI barrel into all of my weapons and the order process is weird but yes very fast delivery. My last parcel got caught by customs. £16 charge (£12 handling - thanks parcelfarce) on a £36 barrel but I honestly don't care as it's easier and often cheaper than sourcing from anywhere else.

Can highly recommend Echigoya guns as well from Japan , been using them off and on for years and never had a problem of any sort and as an added bonus every now and again they chuck out free international delivery , couple of yrs ago a team mate picked up a TM recoil Scar L for £350’ish from them all in !

Currently fending off the temptation of picking up one of the SigAir MCX's with the intention of throwing a Kythera in it. I know I shouldn't, but boy do I want to.

Don’t suppose anyone has a source for lexan/polycarb discs? Been on the hunt for a while to protect a weapon light/replica T2 to no avail, found plenty of acrylic but I suspect that’s not really up to the task... though happy to be told otherwise. Obviously not in a rush given the current situation, but it’s been on my ‘get this at some point’ list long enough to become irritating!

eBay? That's where I got mine at least. Most will do any size you like if you message them too.

I got back into airsoft 'properly' at the tail end of 2019 to try and ease a creeping feeling of isolation following relocating for work, little did I know that'd become a theme in 2020.

It certainly hasn't been the year I'd hoped for, but I want to take a moment to thank those of you I've had interactions with on here. It may not be much, but it's helped me not go entirely insane. I don't really buy into that our calendar means much of anything when it comes to new years rolling round, but here's hoping things become a bit more enjoyable over the next few months.

Yeah we've all lost varying degrees of sanity this year.

But whilst its been a hell of a year and things still aint so good at least the future is looking hopeful for getting back to normality, which in our case is dressing up as soldiers and shooting each other :P

You and me both. I got back into airsoft in Octboer 2019. Suffice to say, I don't feel like I'm well and truly back yet thanks to lockdowns

Found myself with a huge amount of renewed excitement to get back to some CQB once able (next year at this point), fancy picking up a smaller 'primary'. I'm currently between a TM MP7, ASG MP9 or a fancy Hicapa. The latter of which likely drawing my interest more than the others at present, largely because it'd be an entirely new thing to me as someone that historically isn't a 'pistol guy'. It's nice to have things to look forward to.

I’m up North currently, Manchester area. The sites I referenced as not being overly impressed were The Mill and Anzio Camp, both being run by FAO. Neither were ‘bad’ to the point of never wanting to return, but definitely not ‘good’ enough for them to be a site I attend regularly.

Dagger Woods is the woodland site I immediately fell in love with, and Level 2 is the site I’m most looking forward to trying whenever that ends up being possible. Both run by the same company, so fingers crossed its run similarly to Dagger Woods.

That seems like reasonable grounds to not want to return, especially if you’re buying parts and fitting them yourself. I ended up putting in an order yesterday, not being able to go and do anything over the festive period courtesy of restrictions and an entirely unexpected end of year bonus combined perfectly for a late Christmas present to myself. I’ll definitely bookmark Rainbow8, I can see how customising these things gets addictive.

@alxndrhll Ah! Yes FAO, not the best of companies. I too have the same feelings over Anzio. Not a bad site but the running of seems to lack a little, I also found the lead marshall quite unphased, almost like he didn't really want to be there.

I'm over the hills from you in Derbyshire but do intend on making the trip over to Level2 as well as I agree it looks amazing. I'm lucky this side and have The Dept and recently opened ProjectX & Skirmish CQB to play at (when they're open).

The hi-capa slope is long and slippery! Whatever you do, don't keep a note of how much you spend lol

    alxndrhll
    alxndrhll
Just feels very much like a case that they've been around for a long time and have their way of doing things. If you like that way, all power to you. Anzio for me was just over use of the same buildings, every game felt like it was playing out the same irrelevant of what 'the objective' was. Can't say I personally had any issues with the marshalls, though I'm not generally a fan of volunteer marshalls that tag in and out of playing/marshalling.

I'm definitely hoping to do some travelling around myself once that's something we can do so hopefully we'll run into each other at some point!

Haha, by some miracle I've managed to land within budget on the initial build. I suspect I'll want an advanced frame at some point but very much going to 'run it till it breaks' as it comes to me and then tinker from there. Only things I'm eyeing up replacing in the near-ish future would be the grip screws and hammer, but that's definitely a cosmetic thing over anything else.

PSA, if you enquire about an item on the classifieds with a view to buy and then change your mind have the common courtesy to tell the seller. You’re well within your right to change your mind and spend your hobby pennies as you wish, but fuck me are woeful communication skills infuriating.

    Much better, I needed that.

oh never agree to hold things, first person to pop up with the money is first to get it.

It also works the other way,i wanted to buy a RIF messaged the seller ,agreed to buy  asked for paypal  address and then nothing, bloke went dark on me .

How hard is it to let someone know that things have changed.

Be polite in both buying and selling ,you never know one day you may come face to face and have to have a Duel  for  Honour ..lol

Planning on playing a bit more CQB when such a time is permitted. Spent the entire night, thanks insomnia, looking up various eye/face pro options and I suspect I’m now officially more confused as to a good way to go than when I started. A Dye mask seems like the easiest catch all solution, but ohh boy do I get flashes of the ‘How do you do, fellow kids?’ gif every time I look at them.

    Is absolutely the right answer!

Herosharks are fine in the woods, a friend had a BB mince itself through his Herosharks first day out with them in the woods. That was a sniper at maybe 50-60M. I know the sniper and the gun setup as well and it was just a straight up shattered BB into his eyes.
I tried Sawfly's indoors but they just felt a little too open.

You are right though, last time out in a CQB I had an i4 and it gave a knowledge I was really well protected so I played probably the most aggressive game of my life. Loved it!

    alxndrhll
    alxndrhll
They’re definitely my go to whenever I’m sniping, for a whole host of reasons.  Better concealment, easy to craft on, small form factor and the most obvious of don’t fog. That play style tends to mean I get to dictate the ranges at which I engage so (rightly or wrongly) I have minimal safety concerns versus the pros of using them.

Looks like my mind is made up, just need to figure out the colour (between Onyx and ‘Dyecam’)... though knowing me they’ll last maybe 10 minutes before I paint them ?.

@alxndrhll This was my dyecam i4. Yes that's pink and gold glitter.

I got it cheap at £20 and whilst indoors I thought F it, have some fun and a laugh.

Welp, against my better(?) judgement I've gone ahead and ordered my first AEG in roughly half a decade. Also my first ever Taiwangun and Gunfire orders, so intrigued to see what that experience is like. That's the base gun, mags and external parts on the way for my 'heretical' AK. Let the hunt for tech to make it sing commence... because it certainly won't be me!

Sidenote, any advice in terms of batteries which fit in battery space of a CM045a would be appreciated. I'm planning on running 11.1's in it once it's had the things installed to make that safe/not at risk of making it die. It's weirdly refreshing to feel like a total noob again.

    Adolf Hamster

Of course you ask that question and i immediately forget what length the pdi in my aksu was. I wanna say 250 but honestly cant remember.

It did finish up right at the muzzle nut so was fine for different muzzle devices (although i was running a huge can because hpa+can=silence)

Internals wise changing little is a good move. The base cyma internals arent too shabby although air seal might need a little tlc and a fresh hop rubber to lift some proper weight ammo.

    alxndrhll
    alxndrhll
Haha, always the way! I won't lie, it's weird having to be even remotely specific with barrel length. I'm much the same where it's largely HPA with a can so if the barrel over runs the outer a bit it's not an issue.

I'm curious to see how long it takes before this ends up with an F2 in it... or gets kicked to the curb to be replaced by a GHK. But I convinced myself going for the more budget option of cladding an AK in Zenitco was likely the right call, at least to begin with. This one is very much a fashion over function (though I'll happily take both). In all my years I've never used an AK, so jumping in at the deepest of deep ends to start with seemed ill advised.

I think a Perun V3 or an optical unit of some sort (titan v3 or the new aster v3) would definitely fix the semi auto lockups.

As far as batteries, my E&L can only take batteries that are less than 17mm in diametre if I want to fit them inside the gas tube.

If you go for a warfet, I recommend routing it through the front, into the front trunnion so that you keep the whole top cover dedicated to batteries. I didn't and I'm stuck to 7.4s (my 11.1s are too chubby to fit in the gas tube).

Still very much in the 'is this something I actually want to do or am I just bored' camp, but is there is a general 'tier' of quality when it comes to Zenitco repro parts? I'm still jumping between whether it would be an AEG or a GHK, and whether it would be a 105 or an S74U so this very much a non-part specific question... which likely doesn't help.

Has anyone else been seeing a noticeable increase in delays using Royal Mail? Had a few bits (incoming and outgoing) taking significantly longer to arrive than the name of the service used would imply, entirely understandable with everything going on. I've had a look around and just can't find any obvious reason outside of the very obvious one (COVID) for the sudden spike in delays. Asking purely so I can be sure to set expectations on arrival times where they should be.

    alxndrhll
Aye just all seems a bit up the air of late, understandably so. But this is the first instance I've been having in terms of disruption. It's alsmost more frustrating that it isn't consistent... but it is what it is! Ta for taking the time gents!

I know some areas that have local lockdowns it has delayed all the depot's located there so they are stuck there for 72 hour quarantine then it can be moved onwards.

Good to know, much appreciated bud!

Eye pro redone, much happier with it this time. More comfortable and overall a better blend with everything else. Definitely feels like a lesson in less is more sometimes.

Hoping to get some quick field tests in at the weekend, and perhaps a maiden voyage for the finished suit and SRS as it is now on the 31st depending on how things are with various restrictions and how comfortable I feel with the whole situation.

Aye, it’s all dyed in some

way, shape or form. Though I suspect that part might either get removed or clipped down a tad and dusted with some

brown paint. It has a habit of popping up across the ‘lenses’ when acquiring cheek weld, which is less than ideal.

    Long raffia does that unfortunately.

Aye, fortunately the vast majority of my crafting is cable ties so super quick and easy to adjust as needed. Did a quick field test while out with the dog this morning, really happy with the colours just need to have a play around with the right side of the balaclava and the raffia to make sure it’s not hindering the use of my scope. I’ve intentionally done less crafting on the right side with that in mind as is, so hopefully not too much tweaking needed.

Put in a bunch of work over the last few evenings to get the autumn suit and balaclava ready, decided to start again on the eye pro as I wasn’t happy with the blend with the balaclava. Greens will gradually be removed as we transition into winter and replaced with the cloth I dyed over the weekend. Will be paired with some Phantomleaf z2 KSK trousers.

(Blacked out the area my eye pro will be covering, partly to remove how distracting the skin tone is... partly because I had very derpy eyes. Waiting on the delivery of some Quietwear to cover the AAP grip, happy with the overall blend on the chest rig.)

You should do your crafting on the field (arrive early, leave later) so that you get a direct feedback :D

I'm not a fan of fake leaves but hey, if it works for you, carry on ;)

    alxndrhll
    alxndrhll
I’ve done a mixture of onsite crafting, and crafting at home using reference photos. I agree to a point, which is why there is plenty of space to add natural vegetation on the day of. But have found natural greens need supporting with artificial ones (be that haloscreen or artificial leaves, or a mix of the two which is the route I took), natural greens have a habit of not staying very green for long!

Thats a great thing as we move deeper into autumn and winter because it adds to your variety of brown tones, but it’s a pain when you wanted some vibrant greens!

As with anything to do with ghillie crafting it entirely depends on where you’re playing, I certainly wouldn’t expect this to perform well in a pine forest for instance.

Some more crafting prep work ahead of the change in season, waiting on some different dyes to arrive before finishing up but I’m satisfied with the initial results! It’s intentionally dyed poorly, the ‘patchy’ look is exactly what I was shooting for.

To add to what @alxndrhllsaid in case it wasn't clear: TM's VSR Gspec is a shortened version of their classic VSR and is pretty much the benchmark BASR.

    Rogerborg
    Rogerborg
Oh, right, neat.  I do with I'd been able to get a shortie MB-02 rather than the longer MB-03.  If I do get back into sniping (woodland is booked) I'll probably just throw in a shorter inner barrel and take a hacksaw to the outer.  Can't be doing with lugging around weight that's not contributing to performance.

    alxndrhll
    alxndrhll
FWIW I believe 303mm barrels (prommy are ideal unless you're planning on going all in... like this idiot) reap the most reward when it comes to VSR cylinders, I won't even pretend to understand why I'll just throw the phrase 'volume matching' out there in an attempt to sound smarter than I am. I honestly can't remember where I read it, but it was definitely on here and from a source I deemed more reliable than the internet at large.

Edit: It was in this thread, I was quickly skimming to try and find it. Barrel talk starts toward the end of page 1 and follows onto page 2.

Treated myself to some new bits, including one of those fancy carbon fibre SRS suppressors and I literally can’t wrap my head around how something that size weighs 75g.

    Adolf Hamster
    Adolf Hamster
    carbon is a weird material.

the fact that a 4mm*25mm cross section can hold ten tons and yet you go between the layers you can pull it apart by hand.

    alxndrhll
    alxndrhll
I'm not generally good at understanding the weight of things basd on the numerical values, I tend to gauge everything on comparisons. My regular DTSS suppressor feels pretty light to me and weighs 240g, trying to visualise something of comparable size yet a third of the weigh is absolutely making my head spin. Seems like fascinating stuff!

    Adolf Hamster
    Adolf Hamster
imagine it as about the same dimensions as a rail cover but will hold more than 6 cars weight without breaking.

problem is it's such a directional material, and can be made really weak by something as simple as drilling a hole in it.

Spent some time this evening putting the finishing touches to my eye pro, pretty happy with it! Suspect I may end up needing to paint the ‘lenses’ at some point.
