  • Are ZCI Barrels an upgrade over stock TM ones?

I have read fairly decent reviews. I usually buy exclusively Laylax Prometheus barrels. But as I get more guns, the upgrade costs rack up. Looking to put new barrels inside my P90 and JG MP5.

Is the Laylax worth the more then double cost?

Did you find much difference between the two?

@ak2m4 can tell you. Peter's been selling them for ages with good reviews. How they stack up to stock TM though, I don't know.

Never had a stock TM to compare one with.

What I do know is they beat most stock 6.08 JG/Cyma/APS barrels. There about the same as an LCT 6.02.

You can polish them and they get better if you do that.

If you are in doubt ask @ak2m4 He sells enough of them to know what's what with inner barrels.

There certainly better than anything made from alumimiun. I'd have a ZCI over the like of a madbull any day of the week.

If you really wanted an upgrade you might get one of the newer polished tolleranced Lambda barrels from ak2m4. Those should certainly be an upgrade. The 6.05 lambda 5 with the 1 micron finish should outperform pretty much all stock barrels out there if the polish is right. At £40-50 I will be taking a punt on one the next time I need an upgrade.

    Cheers guys.

I forgot AK2M4 sold them. I have picked up one for my P90 and one for my MP5.

Some work has been done on my P90 build. Come into a couple of potential issues though!

The SE Tour 2017/2018 Review and Awards thread has now been posted! 2000+ words of goodness!

Soooo. S&T ARX160, Anyone got one? Opinions? Upgrade path? Thinking of getting the sportsline as I dont want the EBB and would be gutting it anyway. Want to complete the unholy triumvirate of Fish guns.

    It's just a standard m4 with a fancy shell

I am after a reliable tech in or around East London/Essex who can work on a couple of G36 based RIFs and has access to a long distance range to test them.

As I am restricted to public transport they would need to be fairly close to a train station or well served bus!

    Cheers

I have found a guy in Canvey Island who has as long a distance range as needed though it is a trek to get to him, but basically 60/70metres+. The SL8 and XM8 both when stock had bb's leaning to the right once left the barrel, have since upgraded the inner barrels and hop units but both still have the same problem and probably need some fettling. I need the SL8 to have a stronger spring and/or better air seal. as well as  lower ratio gears installed, it is a DMR that is only firing at 370FPS and would like to take it between 420 and 450.

Miguel at Camocustom. I think the problem is exacerbated by the design of G36 style rifles. Quite a bit of weight from the outer barrels going through a non supporting rail system. So I need a bodge to make it just right!

Both barrels are prommy tightbores ?

    I believe so!

Terrible forum suggestion no 1:  Create a stickied thread for people to post regarding "I could buy this airsoft related product, but I dont know if I should. Convince me"

Would probably be better than the posts saying "I've just bought X costing X, is it any good?"

No need , just buy it and if it’s crap keep your regrets to your self say how utterly awesome it is ! AND then try and dump it on an unsuspecting noob for three times what you paid for it ! ?

Last review of 2018 has been posted! Battle Paintball and Airsoft's test day! Really enjoyed this one!

Had an excellent game of airsoft today at a new site. Can't wait to write the review!  Definitely in the top 3 for me!

Gutted I missed it. I was booked in with another 2 guys but we had to bail as my mates sister was taken into hospital seriously ill. Glad it was good and looking forward to the review

Just changed my first motor, So easy! Switched my JG MP5's stock motor out with a TM EG1000. Huge difference in magnetism between the two. Results in a much better trigger response with the TM though slightly slower ROF. Much quieter as well as it doesn't have to struggle. Think I am really in love with this cheap as chips gun!

Later on tonight i'll change the barrel to a stock ICS one, install Deans so I can use Lipos to claw back some ROF.

I love my JG MP5 bought it second hand off a friend who is a very good AEG tech, it runs 345 ish fps and is stupidly accurate. Cheapest gun I own and the one I use the most

They certainly aren't bad! Why we started stocking the higher end JG stuff, have been running a JG ak and havent had a change to stress test an MP5 apart from running stupid amount of BB's through one, hows it going on game days?

Bloody great ! I get an occasional feed issue with the standard hicaps but I usually run with one of those 'double' mags which looks cool and never has any feed issues. That and a bag of BB's sees me through most games.  Its stupidly accurate and matches any other AEG on our woodland site for range. I seriously can't fault it and am tempted to pick up the non suppressed version just for the 'standard' look. Here is mine

Just began the laborious process of making the site reviews a bit clearer, adding contact details and changing from a Positive/Negative rating to Good/Average/Bad. On site shop ratings are being changed on some reviews as the average shop was smaller then I thought. Also need to make things a bit standardised as there is a marked difference between the early reviews to the last few months. :(

Well I certainly appreciate the efforts!! Thanks bro

Absolutely awful day of Skirmishing. Review will be forthcoming...

At least all of my gear worked for the most part!

Took apart my first gearbox yesterday. My battlebuddies CYMA G36 that I bought him came in at 380FPS. Took me three hours because of the sodding Anti Reversal latch and trigger spring. However it is back together with a new M90 spring and shooting at a cool 300FPS with 3-4 FPS deviancy. Not bad for a first try! Gave it a Spring guide and bucking upgrade whilst I was at it.

Dead proud I am, don't want to do it again.

    @Prisce

I have my P90 to completely gut. All new parts going in, Gears, bushings, shims, all new compression system, spring. Motor is a TM EG1000 but might even take the armature out and put it into a neodymium can.

You’ll be fine mate. Take your time, plenty of research before you start, set aside enough time. Put it back together and be prepared to take it apart again multiple times before it’s right.

It took me 13 months from starting till finishing my Custom M4.  But it’s well worth it.

I'll think about it. Hopefully it wont take me 13 months! It's a Christmas only project!

Can anyone point me to a pre drilled and cut Sorbothane supplier in the UK?

I always use the Airlab ones.

Cheers for your help gents. I am looking at the Ak2M4 ones at the moment. If I end up buying a high torque motor for my Cyma build i'll get the sorbo from there as well :)

Bear in mind that Sorbothane isn't very rugged so the AK2M4 ones will need facing with something. I think @Sitting Duck used to use a rubber washer, might be worth an ask.

The SE Tour is taking in three sites, 3 weekends in a row starting on the 18th! Ace Combat (Kent), Cool Under Fire (Kent) and Battle Paintball The Zoo (East Sussex.)

"FPS don't make much different to range" is a phrase I have believed in for some time and that it's all down to the Hop unit and barrel quality.

But I couldn't believe my TM Aug HC yesterday. I changed the barrel to a Prommy tightbore and used the same TM bucking and nub. Hop unit almost on full, FPS was chronoed at just over 250 on .2 (I was using .25's so it was about 211) Yet I was flinging out BB's accurately about 10 metres further then my mates upgraded EVO running at 330 FPS.

    This thing is ridiculous.

FPS is important though guys. If you have the exact same setup but one gun has a higher fps, the amount of energy the bb retains in the higher fps gun increases and so the bb will travel further. People get confused between the relationship though. The only reason you should be using a higher fps is to effectively use heavier weight ammo to retain more energy for longer.

Prommy barrels aren't magic on their own but the tolerances the barrels are produced with are very consistent + the material is better than stock barrels.

Flat hops work very well because it allows heavier ammo to be hopped much more effectively by increasing the surface area contact with the bb. Unfortunately, the only way to see these benefits is to in fact use the heaviest weight ammo you can.

It's not so much that fps is important on its own, but it helps everything else take more effect.

    clumpyedge
Should have really clarified... FPS means nothing unless your hop is decent and is married up with a decent nub and rubber. Yes FPS is key but unless you get the first part right you could be shooting 450 but not able to get your ammo more than 30m

Imagine what your TM could do it if it were shooting at 1J rather than 0.58J.

Imagine what your mate's EVO could do it it had been upgraded properly.

Playing with an M4 for the first time today. I won't enjoy it, I won't enjoy it...

Wasn’t my intention. I’m not that sort of person.

But if your firing enough for the hi cap not to keep up, you must be doing a lot of full auto.

Or the ICS High cap mag is generally known for its weak springs :)

    what M4 was it?

tbh, ive never had issues with the fuses on mine, they have always seemed fine in my AEGs

on ICS hi-caps, my brother uses them all the time, never had any issues but tbh where we play its mainly semi for the majority of the time anyway so not overly used, and on ICS AEGS
