As a new player, since December, how do I deal with cheaters?

I’ve been playing every week and have chilled out so much now, I’m enjoying it far more. But if somebody is clearly obviously cheating to extreme levels I do shoot until they take it and I will shoot the face if they are sensibly far away.

If they didn't want to get shot again, should have called it earlier 🤷‍♂️

it's a tricky one.

whilst that statement in and of itself isn't strictly toxic, there's a poisonous yet alluring draw to go further. it's the first step on a road of escalation that leads you to open every engagement with overkill regardless of wether or not the target needed that much persuasion.

we've all seen it, first game of the day is pretty chill, but one or two bad apples, or at least the perception of them snowballs into everyone just unloading at first sight to "make sure hits get called" or at least the feeling that if they're going to ignore it, you'll make them regret it.

thing is some folk are clad in whatever the opposite of a starfleet red shirt is and there is literally no amount of dakka that will get through to them, a lesson learned by following the rabbit hole the whole way down to the mitchell and webb "are we the baddies" poster at the bottom.

Yeah it just ends up being a shitter for everyone if you start playing Filipino Rules ngl.

I do agree with just firing follow up shots in principle - you might have missed, hit a pouch, or a tiny twig - but I don't think you wanna flick to Auto and burn people's patch by default.

I follow up with a single shot if i'm not sure, anything else is overkill. If they don't take it, i'll just wander off to vent to a Marshal, they'll deal with it and if they don't, I just don't go back to the site. Simples.

I'm pretty sure I get more people taking hits from the noise of the recripocating BCG, than actual hits at this point though.

I usually do a few more follow-up shots, if they still don't take the hit, me and my squad will hunt them until they do lol

I Marshall more than I play so I get to observe better more than most players. There are very few players that intentionally don't take hits, most Airsoft players can't judge distance and can't shoot for shit. This mentality breaks the golden rule don't be a dick! Maybe they didn't take the hit maybe you missed either way by mag dumping in some one you are intending to inflict pain on some one for what might be your failure to hit them. By all means take follow up shots, change position, get closer. Never take the law into your own hands and never do something to some one you wouldn't want done to yourself. Marshalls are there for a reason if there is some one cheating get them to deal with it

I always run semi auto, and so my follow ups aren’t mag dumping. But when I see the flinch or the BB bouncing off, I aim for a less covered spot. It’s never about causing pain, it’s about giving them the opportunity to feel it.

I just want to add - I bloody love this sport / hobby and the vast majority of the people who play it are lovely and jovial.

On the subject of intentionally inflciting pain, I had quite a disturbing conversation with a first time rental today. He stated he liked watching people in pain when they were shot, to which I suggested 1. This sport wasn't for him and 2. He might need therapy. Altogether a very strange lad and none too bright. I despair for todays youth.

I do wonder how much KM is to blame for making it look like Airsoft is about this ngl

He sounds like he dissects his neighbours' pets while they're alive and that he was picked on when he was younger. It is worrying when people are that open with their sadism.

Giving someone like that even an imitation gun sounds a recipe for disaster. Hopefully he looks back on that attitude and cringes one day.

I doubt he has the required level of self awareness. He casually mentioned that he had been banned from any kind of combat/fighting sport in Peterborough, and frankly looked the kinda fella to start a fight for little reason other than a few lines of coke or pints of lager too many. Couldn't have been more than 25
