Medical advice/help.

Brother .i have chronic arthritis in both knees and only partia cartilage in them .they hurt like buggery ALL the time .
Sometimes I do manage to go shooting .sttap my knees up .take my tramadol and carry my lightest gun and kit . When the whistle blows every one runs off toward the battle but I gently walk being very careful of my feet placing so not to trip .after the day I have a hot bathe with plenty of Eason salts .and a large glass of rum lol

It can be done .take hi ga easy and let ur body decide if u want to play every game .this is what i do

Be safe
It is amazing how may ‘mature’ or knackered shooters there are out there …let the younglings do all the running and die quickly and us more senior shooters offer the more skilled second wave lol

Hey what can I say... a superb plethora of helpful responses, I'm flabergasted by the amount of helpful replies ,I didn't expect this TBH.
I'm currently taking Nepofam a pain relief only tablet after Naproxen had run it's course .I wear knee supports until they become uncomfortable.
I have a friend who excels in do's and dont's with tablets, he's suffered from " night terrors" himself and has a mad history with tabs. I'm not a massive fan of medication but if they work I will use them. Nefopam is a medication that loses it's "power" after time (can't recall what they call it), I can vouch for that because when I started using them they were great, apparently they are the strongest over the counter pain relief and expensive ,they stopped me having them until I kicked up as Berkshire Health authourity won't fund them. TBH I expected a quick fix for my knees but it looks like pain management for the time being.
I can't resist being at the front during games, showing new players what to do rather than be that player leading from the rear, I'm very vocal when I play...but it looks like a change of play style is in need. I've sourced a replacement weapon off a friend who doesn't play much.
THANK YOU ALL.

Possibly a bit of a controversial one but have you considered cannabis? You can have it prescribed by the NHS or private companies for several different ailments now including arthritis
I was also going to say this but wasn't sure. Glad you did as it clearly has medicinal benefits! It is available as an oil, edibles or flower too.

Of course, anyone reading, always worth speaking to your GP about these things first as there are pros and cons to everything!

I’m a bit old fashioned when it comes to this one just like acupuncture was recommended to me numerous times over the years but I never have attempted it

Would be curious to hear from anybody that has used either option and their following results after trying ?

Blimey, if you lot turned up at the same site one day it would be like an episode of the "Walking Dead" :)

On a more serious note, be careful taking advice from strangers on the internet and always refer to your GP. As much as they are offering good advise here, they don't know your medical history.

I had acupuncture some years ago for my back, sometimes it really helped, & others it was just an uncomfortable annoyance, but to be fair my GP had just done a course, so was looking for guinea pigs lol.
Perhaps a dedicated practitioner would have a more consistent treatment path ?

Thanks for the reply 👍

I have an appointment coming up soon I’ll drop that into the conversation I’m sceptical but my options are slowly running out

As my last arthritis specialist said no active arthritis in my hands therefore there’s no active arthritis in my system even though I didn’t present to them pain in my hands 😂

Had to walk out may have bad knees but my hands still work bloody muppet lol 😂

State of arthritic practice and treatment plans has significantly decreased in my case and experience from 1999 to present day

Some doctors now recommend it - I have heard others do not. There is still a stigma attached to it, but any medicine can be abused and there are pros and cons for everything. As others have said, perhaps ask your GP about it?

For other user opinions on that, reddit has dedicated sections for it that may be worth a look...then again...it is reddit so probably not! :ROFLMAO:

On another note- have you ever looked into cold showers? Some swear by ice baths too. Also could be worth discussing this with GP?

I have been doing cold showers daily now for nearly 4 years and for me it has numerous benefits, but they are still pretty miserable...in a good way...I think! :ROFLMAO:

But again just to reiterate - the others are right, best to talk to GP before doing anything.

I sometimes advise people to write a letter to take in the appointment with you, as its sometimes hard to remember all the points and queries to make/raise - but could also help let them know that you feel like you are running out of options. Sometimes the doctors also use the letter and upload it so it has benefits all around.

Appreciate that pal and the letter part is so spot on I always forget sodding everything lol 😂

Easily done! I have gone in before and just not known where to start. Me doc knows now that if she sees me, there will be a letter involved!

I keep it very friendly and bullet point stuff to for ease of reading. :)
My wife goes mental as I literally sometimes go in to the docs and say nowt and coming out with nothing lol 😂 then moan when I get home

Me: Good morning doc.
Doc: Good morning, how can I help?
Me: Ohhh...you know...nothing I guess...no I am fine. How are you doc?

Later that day

Wife: *Marge Simpson noises*

(This is a joke of course, but that's one of the reasons I take a letter nowadays!)

After a hernia op I ended up self medicating with cannabis as the painkillers they gave me had really nasty side effects and I didn't fancy having to kick an addiction afterwards. There's a good reason they say you shouldn't take opiates for more than 3 days
