ASG CZ P09 Low Test FPS

Hi,

So I'm quite new to airsoft, but I thought that I'd buy myself a decent pistol, so plumped for a CZ P09. Just received it through today. I purchased this pistol because I wanted something with decent FPS with the supplied Green Gas mag, and I can also us a CO2 mag.  On the vendor site the gun was rated at around 310 FPS (and I think that generally these things come out at 300 with Green Gas.  On opening the box, I found a 'Gun Testing Form' from the vendor, to show that the pistol had been test fired.  The FPS listed on the form was 255.  This seems awfully low for a pistol that should be doing 300+.  Should this be expected with a new gun, or is there potentially a problem with the pistol?

It could be one of a couple of things.

It could be they didn't use green gas for the test, and used 144a. That's a weaker gas and would probably give 250-270 FPS.

Or their warehouse was cold as ice and the green gas was being hampered by the cold.

Thanks for your response.  I think that they used Ultrair Green Gas.  I did think that it could be the cold, given the time of year, but wondered if there could be another reason.

It could very well be the temperature, but I’d avoid that ultrair green gas (gold and white bottle) none of my guns cycle nice on that stuff. Stick to nuprol 2.0 or propane.

Yeah could be as the guys said, a good few things could cause lower FPS readings. 

I would say get yourself a chronograph and then you can test the guns yourself, they are very helpful to own for a few reasons.. 

I'm not a lover of nuprol 2.0 gas, it has a tad too much lube in for my liking, all the batches I've ever bought have anyway, best green gas I've used is airsoft surgeon Green gas, has a nice mix of lube and good performance, aims top arms gas is also another good one, there's so many to try though some are the same with different labels and bottles but some really do perform better then others..

I've ordered some Nuprol 2.0 (yesterday, before I'd received these responses), so we'll see how that goes.

Seems like temperature could have been the issue, but I was wondering if they didn't gas the mag fully (as they were just doing a few test shots).  Could that cause a reduction in FPS?

Every chrono test sheet that I've had, and every test sheet I've made, has always had the room temperature noted somewhere. When you're using gas, a chrono should always sit side by side with a thermometer, it's just common sense and good practice.

I had the ASG P-09 for a while - do you have the one with the alloy slide, or polymer slide?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. No temperature quoted on this sheet. Pistol was purchased from Patrolbase, who were quite responsive to queries.....prior to me handing over my money. Now they have gone quiet.

The pistol is the one with the alloy slide, which I’ve had to have painted (with Krylon Fusion) as I don’t have UKARA . Talking of which, I’ve had the about 4 days, and the paint still doesn’t appear to be totally dry. Is that normal?

Hi. Unfortunately PatolBase are quite well known here for being one of the busiest airsoft retailer for online purchases, but not enough staff to support them, which makes getting hold of them difficult. I had trouble trying to get in touch when I needed to return some mags, and they never picked up the phone.

I always recommend new players to wait until they have UKARA before buying guns to avoid having to two tone them (but you newbies are always too impatient lol!) because if not done properly, it can effect the cycling. That shouldn’t drop your FPS though.

It’s impossible to give you a definitive answer to your problem without being able to see and test it I’m afraid.

Will always recommend Crawley Surplus for new players - great aftersale support when you’re still learning, I got my first primary from them, and had difficulties with it that they troubleshooted with oblivious me - turned out to be a faulty battery charger.

FireSupport also good, but geared towards more experienced players - lots of upgrade parts and specialist items - and Military1st are great for non-gun things like camo, vests, pouches and the like.

and of course, any questions feel free to post here on the forum, we’re all here to help

Sure I don’t have to say this, but give anything with “budget”, “BB Gun”, or “cheap” in the name a wide berth. You’d be better off buying a water pistol from a market trader.
