Gunner91 Posted September 11 Posted September 11 (edited) Heya all, recently bought the vfc 10.3 urgi and the ak74m. They are brilliant out of the box but maybe in the future I'd like to upgrade parts. Mostly internal and performance so just wondering what needs doing if anything? Also what stocks fit nice for the ak74? Mines a bit wobbly. Cheers Ryan Edited September 11 by Gunner91
Austeyr Posted September 11 Posted September 11 If they're "brilliant out of the box" then why spend money to potentially make them worse? I've been running my VFC AK on .28g BB's and it's been dead accurate with nothing needing changed at all. As for the stock, add a shim and it'll stop any play. I believe Explosive Enterprises on youtube showed the dimensions for the shim to solve the issue EvilMonkee 1
Lyndication Posted September 11 Posted September 11 The VFC AK, genuinely, does not need any aftermarket internally. A few people have tried different barrels, buckings, etc in it but it doesn't give any benefit. Everything is steel as well. Only things I'd suggest is installing an X-ring in the nozzle, and of course an adjustable valve. First one gives better cycling in the cold, the latter should just be in everything it's that handy. You can get real parts for the AK if you wanna dress it up a bit btw. DandBMilitaria is UK based and has some nice stuff. I got a proper sling for mine, for example. The URGI can need some TLC but honestly don't fuck with it unless you have issues. There's mods to fix hop inconsistency and improve cycling, but it can be fiddly to get them set up. Austeyr 1
OREVREV Posted Tuesday at 12:35 Posted Tuesday at 12:35 My recipe for AR, Steel outer barrel, 4UAD hop chamber, 4UAD bucking (trim and sand smooth the side off), Unicorn barrel to the correct length 260mm ish maybe. Use some aluminium tape and perfectly wrap so that it's even all the way around the end of the inner barrel, might only need one or two wraps so that is just squeezes down the outer, or get a right sizes o ring, supporting the inner barrel in the outer is key. For the AK, 285mm unicorn barrel, 4UAD bucking (trim and sand smooth the side off), 1 perfect wrap of teflon tape around the bucking where it connects to the barrel. Then again aluminium tape around the end of the barrel so it's supported in the outer (think it only needs one wrap in the AK). I used .4s and doing this has made both shoot incredibly well. It's a much bigger upgrade for the AR than the AK but both can be improved with this. FCW AK Triangle Stock With Rear Cushioned Butt Pad For VFC AV74 GBBR works well if you like the look of them, I like mine.
WARDOG Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I can only speak of the AR. As stated above, the 4uad hop unit is a worthy upgrade. I'm still testing the 4uad bucking myself, so far so good. In my community the go to is now the unicorn 70° bucking. A unicorn barrel is nice to have but not strictly needed and the new nozzle design from the MCX seems to be becoming the gold standard so start looking at how to mod them to fit. And lastly Waldo dynamics launched a new NPAS that's much better suited for us in the UK. If anything I'd say watch some explosive enterprise YT vids before doing any mods and stay well clear from some other YouTubers advice on these platforms, they'll side grade or worse downgrade your rifle.
